Fr. Majano has Thousands on Their Feet Applauding a True Hero

“Now I think that I can truly see that the true hero is someone who will let nothing — absolutely nothing, no matter how big, how small — get in the way of defending what they know to be true, of living with that mission of defending the smallest part of our society, of defending what they know comes directly from God.”
Fr. Majano related at the January 22 event how he happens to know just such a hero, a woman who “against all obstacles, against all trials, stood firm, and would not budge, would not move from what her beliefs were, when everything else in her life seemed to sway.”

DC’s Newly Elected Mayor Signs Anti-Catholic Bills

A while back, I wrote to you about a bill which passed the DC Council.  Now, Mayor Bowser has signed two bills:

Reproductive Health Non-Discrimination Amendment Act, which could coerce religious organizations to work with and hire those in favor of abortion and force employers to cover elective abortions in their health plans

Human Rights Amendment (don’t you just love how they use language to hide their motives) repeals an exemption that protected religious schools and universities from approving or funding homosexual advocacy.

PS:  I wonder if we will see anything about this in the Catholic Standard.

MoCo Council President Conspires with NARAL to Shut Down Pro-Life Centers

E-mails obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request have revealed that Maryland government officials and activists with the state chapter of NARAL Pro-Choice America have been working closely together on a legal effort to shut down a local pro-life pregnancy care center.
The e-mails have also revealed a seven-part plan developed by NARAL to shut down pro-life pregnancy care centers that could indicate a nationwide strategy.
In 2010, Montgomery County passed an ordinance requiring Centro Tepeyac Silver Spring Women's Center and other pro-life pregnancy care clinics to post signs stating that they did not have doctors on staff. The county claimed it wanted to prevent pro-life clinics from giving women misleading information.

O'Malley a Practicing Catholic?

On Tuesday, January 1, 2015  Mr. John Wagner of the Washington comPost, published an article on the commuting of Death Row cases.  He stated that:  "A practicing Catholic, O'Malley argued that executions are not cost effective, do not deter murders and are at odds with 'values as a people."

Really?

Let's see where to begin here...

  • Why does he throw this fact in?  Is is to help give O'Malley cover on the issue?  To give him the "in" with leftist Catholics?
  • O'Malley is not a practicing Catholic, as he is a supporter of abortion and homosexual marriage.
  • You can be a faithful Catholic and support the Death Penalty.  I do not trust our justice system, as I believe that eventually, those on Death Row will get out.

What a waste of newsprint.

Franciscan Monastery

Over the Christmas holiday, I visited the Franciscan Monastery in Washington DC.  I had never been their before and was amazed at this hidden gem.

Take the tour (and remember to leave a small donation at the end of it to help pay for maintenance).  Visit the grounds.  Visit the gift shop.

Here are a couple of photos to help entice you from the church interior...

Four Fathers by Dan LaHood

As my readers know, I am a supporter of the St. Joseph House in Silver Spring, MD.   The St. Joseph House is a day care and respite care facility run by Cubby and Dan LaHood.  It has operated for over 30 years and I have known both of them for about 12 years.

Dan has written an article in Humanum magazine entitled: Four Fathers.  It shares the stories of four fathers and the children they have loved.

It is a moving article and I hope that Dan continues to write and share these stories of the love of a father.

At the beginning of our ministry we had no idea where any of this would lead. It was and is chaotic, joyful, inspirational, wearying, sad, edifying, instructive. It is a life we could not have imagined but one we now cannot imagine having not lived. Mother Teresa was reported to have described a child with a disability the “treasure of mankind.” That may be apocryphal, but we have found it to be absolutely true. Many of the kids who came to our home over the years have died, but every year at Christmas their parents return. And they tell us how they miss their son, their daughter. They tell us, not in so many words, that the love they had for their child was the life they could not have imagined before their child arrived; but one they could not have imagined not living once the child was here. This is true for the Isaiah's Promise parents as well as the Saint Joseph's House parents. Not one carries any regret, whether their child lived for minutes or decades, that that person was part of their lives. Their life to them was a Gift, a Pearl of Great Price, if you will.

St. Joseph House Benefit

As many of my reader's know, I have been a supporter of the St. Joseph House for a number of years.   Cubby, Dan and their children have done excellent work over the years and are strong pro-life advocates.  Doing what they do, is the essence of being pro-life.

Each year, an annual benefit dinner is conducted to help support their efforts.  Although I cannot do what they do, I do support them both financially and spiritually.

If you can attend, I know that they would love to see you there. If you cannot, then a small donation to help defray some of the costs would be wonderful.  If you cannot donate, then your prayers would be most appreciated.

See the flier/image for more information.
