St. Thomas More - An Update

When I posted earlier this week about St. Thomas More and the wearing of Kamala tshirts by the Extraordinary Ministers, I also wrote to the Moderator of the Curia for the Archdiocese of Washington, alerting them to this.

As I wrote to them anonymously, I did not expect to hear back, as they generally have a policy not to respond to anonymous emails.  However, the Very Rev. Anthony Lickteig, the Episcopal Vicar for Clergy did respond to my email.

Here is the email in full:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Good afternoon and thank you for sharing your concerns with us about Extraordinary Ministers wearing political apparel while distributing Holy Communion at a Mass last Sunday at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church in Washington, D.C.

Please be assured that this does not mean that the Catholic Church supports a specific candidate. However, it does create confusion to have someone engaged in an official ministry of the Church wearing political attire of any kind. I have addressed this with the pastor of the parish and I am confident that this will not happen again.

Be assured of my prayers for you and your family.

God bless,

Very Rev. Anthony Lickteig

Episcopal Vicar for Clergy

Secretary for Ministerial Leadership

Extraordinary Ministers Wear Kamala Shirts at Communion

Well, it seems that Fr. Moore's request to wear your political garb on Sunday, Nov. 3rd was heeded loud and clear.

At Communion, two Extraordinary Ministers wearing Kamala tshirts were distributing Holy Communion.

Has this been approved by the Archdiocese of Washington?

Is the Archdiocese of Washington giving a wink and a nod approval for this?

Or is Fr. Moore simply going rouge?

In addition, at the announcements, you can hear someone state that photos will be taken later of those wearing their political apparel and to meet in the back of the church.

St. Thomas More: Wear Your Politics on Your Sleeve (or Body)

Well it seems that the Fr. Ray Moore, the pastor at St. Thomas More, is once again injecting national politics.   It seems that last Sunday, he announced that all parishioners should wear there "election apparel."  There were some cheers at this announcement.

Does this mean that they should wear their Kamala t-shirts which were ordered a few weeks and picked up after Mass?

Who paid for the tshirts and did the parish make any profit over it?

Has the Archdiocese said anything to the Pastor about the sale of Kamala shirts?

What would happen if someone came with a Trump t-shirt?  Would they be welcome?

You can hear his request at almost 1 hour and 30 minutes into the Mass.

St. Thomas More (DC) in for Kamala

It seems that St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Washington DC is n for Kamala Harris.

During the 10am Mass, on September 29th, Fr. Moore (the pastor) called up Mary(?) who announced that for those who ordered Kamala Harris t-shirts, they could now be picked up during the after Mass gathering.  Further, if you were still interested, you could still order.  Finally, she invited the Men of St. Joseph purchase them

I thought that the word was sent out to all Priests, Religious and Deacons that there would be no politicking this election.  Guess they did not get the message or maybe they choose to ignore.

Think I am making it up, go to their YouTube website and watch the 10am Mass recording for September 29th.  Start at 1hour and 29 minutes, as it will begin at almost 1 hour and 30 minutes.

To those on the pro-life side who support this bill...

MORE I have one question to ask the witness. (RICH stops) That's a chain of office you are wearing. (Reluctantly RICH faces him) May I see it?

(NORFOLK motions him to approach. MORE examines the medallion) The red dragon

(To CROMWELL) What's this?

CROMWELL Sir Richard is appointed Attorney-General for Wales.

MORE (Looking into RICH'S face, with pain and amusement) For Wales? Why, Richard, it profits a man nothing to give his soul for the whole world . . . But for Wales! (Exit RICH, stiff-faced, but infrangibly dignified)
