Archdiocese Supporting Illegal Aliens - Don't Support the Cardinal's Appeal

I don't know if you or anyone else saw this, but someone brought it to my attention.

It seems that the Archdiocese and Catholic Charities, does not get enough funds from the Federal Government for protect illegal aliens.  They are now spending some of their limited resources, working with MoCo (and pro-abortion politicians) to find and train pro-bono lawyers to help illegals stay in the country. 

These were the same politicians who see abortion as a God given right and have tried to shut down pro-life organizations.  Here we have the Archdiocese of Washington in bed with them.

In the mean time, the Archdiocese has allowed another Catholic elementary school to close and yet, sees funding this illegal activity as acceptable.

DON'T FUND THE CARDINAL'S APPEAL OR CATHOLIC CHARITIES!!!

Catholic Charities has about 13 attorneys working on cases involving unaccompanied minors, said Jacqueline Rishty, senior program manager at the organization’s Immigration Legal Services program.


The organization, however, is looking for volunteers to defend 85 cases of minors who have gone through a screening process and are awaiting an attorney.


She said the majority of unaccompanied minors are seeking Special Immigrant Juveniles Status for children who were abused, abandoned or neglected in their home country, usually by one or both parents.


On Monday, before and after the press conference, Catholic Charities trained interested lawyers about the status.


Fewer children are pursuing asylum or a visa for victims of crimes, Rishty said.

Catholic Charities USA invites pro-gay ‘marriage’ priest to keynote annual gathering

Where do they get these people?  And don't they do even a small amount of research on them?  Now you know why I don't give.

Bishop Howard Hubbard of Albany, who serves as chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on International Justice and Peace, has approved a proposal by diocesan Catholic Charities to distribute free needles to drug abusers in the hope of preventing the spread of AIDS.

“I understand there will be questions, but this is common sense,” said Sister Maureen Joyce, CEO of Catholic Charities. “I strongly believe in this. It will save lives.”

“From a theological standpoint, we’re not being faithful to our mission if we don’t reach out to people addicted to drugs, too,” Sister Joyce added.

An $83,000 van filled with syringes will be parked in two neighborhoods and serve as the focal point of Catholic Charities’ needle distribution efforts. – Catholic Culture News Briefs.

From Hunger to Hope

Although there is a great deal of criticism of the Archdiocese of Washington DC (and rightly so), it is also important to point out something that I think is good.

I received a flier from one of the local Catholic Schools encouraging families to donate various food items, such as cereal, canned meats, canned veggies, etc. Each grade is asked to donate a particular item. For example, Eight Grade students are asked to donate canned fruits.

The items will then be donated to the local food banks.

The canned items will be "a visible sign of our faith as we prepare to welcome Pope Benedict XVI, the Shepherd of the Universal Church."

So, if you think you can spare a couple of non-perishable items, give your local Catholic school a call. They will probably be more than happy to receive the donation.

The deadline is Thursday, April 10, 2008.

Catholic Charities, Racism and Hurricane Katrina

Did you know that the problems in assisting the people in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina was due to racism?

Catholic Charities USA issued a document entitled: Poverty and Racism: Overlapping Threats to the Common Good. According to the CNS report:

The document cites various historical examples of how the U.S. government and even the Catholic Church have contributed to racism and racially biased economic inequality. It gives a snapshot of the current reality of racism -- decrying wealth disparity and reflecting on current public debates such as those over immigration reform and Hurricane Katrina.

Wow! I thought that the problem with relief was due to:

(1) the corruption and ineptness of the New Orleans local government to handle this disaster (remember the video of the police officers helping themselves to shoes at the local department store – we call that looting where I come from);

(2) the corruption and ineptness of the state government;

(3) the large number of people who refused to leave the city; and,

(4) the poorly made levees.

Leave it to Catholic Charities to inject racism when all right minded people realize that the cause of the failure with Katrina is due to the failure of local governments.

I am taking them off my giving list.
