The Abortion Duala and CUA

Last week, The Daily Signal reported that Rachel Carbonneau was invited to a Lifespan Development course at Catholic University of America (CUA) in Washington, D.C. Carbonneau, who was an English lecturer at the school in the mid 2000s, is the founder of Family Ways, an LGBT-affirming doula company.

Among the topics Carbonneau discussed were her past experiences helping “transgender men.”

“I have some men who have given birth; it’s amazing, we call it seahorse birth. It’s lovely, especially when it’s a water birth,” Carbonneau said in a recording reportedly obtained by The Daily Signal.

Dorothy's Wizard of OZ dress and CUA

WASHINGTON (CNS) — Dorothy’s refrain, “There’s no place like home,” in “The Wizard of Oz” also could be echoed by her blue and white gingham dress from the 1939 movie.

The dress, which turned up last summer at The Catholic University of America after it was missing for nearly 40 years, is about to get a new home as the university plans to sell it and use the proceeds to help establish the school’s new film acting program.

But now there is a wrinkle in this plan with a lawsuit trying to stop the sale.

For the rest, please go to CNS.

CUA Celebrates Painting of George Floyd as Jesus Christ

Here is the story, reported by Mary Margaret Olohan

Paintings depicting George Floyd as Jesus Christ hang in both The Catholic University of America’s campus ministry office and its law school, The Daily Signal has learned.

Catholic University appeared to shrug off responsibility for the painting Monday, telling The Daily Signal that artist Kelly Latimore’s painting “Mama” depicts “the Virgin Mary supporting the body of the dead Christ”—although the artist has indicated repeatedly that his painting depicts both Floyd and Jesus.

“You can identify Jesus by the marks in the halo,” said Karna Lozoya, vice president for university communications. Lozoya would not further address the matter with The Daily Signal.

“The icon has no place at The Catholic University of America; it is blasphemous and an offense to the Catholic faith, but it is not surprising at all that it was put there,” a junior at Catholic University told The Daily Signal in an email. “It is just another symptom of the liberalization and secularization of our campus.”

“There are many students, faculty, and staff who are concerned about this, but there is nothing we can do,” added the student, who asked to remain anonymous out of fear of reprisal from the university administration. “And if we sound the alarm, we will be labeled racists.”

George Neumayer encounters Matthew Riedlinger (Msgr Rossi's Buddy)

George Neumayer writes:

One of the appalling figures at the center of the Monsignor Walter Rossi scandal is Matthew Riedlinger. A former priest nabbed by police during an underage sting operation, he used to live at Rossi’s Atlantic City beach condo. He was even registered to vote there and to this day gets mail at the condo, according to a mailman with whom I spoke last year. I have previously reported the allegations from well-informed sources within the D.C. archdiocese about him and Rossi: that they were once sexual partners, that Rossi pulled strings with the rapist Theodore McCarrick to make his absurdly checkered boyfriend a priest in the diocese of Trenton (where McCarrick’s crony from seminary days, John M. Smith, served as bishop at the time), that Rossi most egregiously introduced Riedlinger to Catholic University students upon whom he preyed, and that Rossi played a role in trying to suppress the Riedlinger scandal after the freshly minted priest got popped for sending over 1,000 obscene texts to a cop posing as a 16-year-old.

Remember to sign the petition asking CUA President Garvey to investigate Msgr. Rossi and for him (Msgr. Rossi) to step down.  As of this writing, there are about 500 signers.  Let's get a couple of thousand!

Call Upon CUA President Garvey to Investigate Msgr. Rossi

A reader asked me to share this petition.  Normally, I do not share such items, but in this case, I think it is one that needs to be shared.

+++++++++++++++++++

Whereas Monsignor Walter Rossi has been credibly accused of sexual harassment by a former Catholic University of America (CUA) student, we strongly urge President John H. Garvey to open an investigation to determine the veracity of these allegations. In the meantime, we call on Monsignor Rossi to step down from the CUA Board of Trustees while the result of the investigation is pending.

Does Pope Francis support Radical Doctrinal Change?

CAMBRIDGE, England, February 15, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – A respected Catholic historian and philosopher challenged Cardinal Blase Cupich during a lecture last week about Pope’ Francis so-called “revolution of mercy” that has caused what many are defending as a “paradigm shift” in Catholic practice.

Professor John Rist, after listening to a February 9 lecture at Cambridge University in which Cardinal Cupich praised Pope Francis’ “paradigm shift” in Catholic practice, asked the Cardinal at the end of the lecture why Pope Francis “mercilessly” insults and eliminates his doctrinal opponents.

Prof. Rist is at Catholic University of America.

Theological College Disinvites Father James Martin From Speaking Engagement

From the National Catholic Reporter:

Jesuit Father James Martin, an editor at America magazine, has been disinvited from speaking at the Theological College, a seminary affiliated with The Catholic University of America, following pressure from online-based groups.

Father Martin was invited to speak Oct. 4 on the theme of encountering Christ. However, the Theological College said that, “since the publication of his book, Building a Bridge, Theological College has experienced increasing negative feedback from various social-media sites regarding the seminary’s invitation.”

D.C. council eliminates religious schools’ protection from gay discrimination suits

A vote December 2 by the Washington, D.C., City Council could compel private religious schools and universities in the nation’s capital to allow groups that oppose the schools’ moral values access to their campuses, programs, and funds.

The council voted to eliminate faith-based schools’ 25-year-old legal protections from discrimination lawsuits as part of a “human rights amendment.” Barring an act of Congress, D.C.’s religious schools will likely have to go against their religious values when it comes to permitting use to their campuses or programs.

The city’s rules hold that it’s “unlawful discriminatory practice” to limit any use of facilities, services, or programs based on “sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.” With the religious exemption, Washington D.C. religious schools had been able to restrict finances, amenities and approval from individuals and groups “organized for, or engaged in, promoting, encouraging, or condoning any homosexual act, lifestyle, orientation, or belief.”

Catholic University leaders reject criticism of Koch grant

.- The Catholic University of America’s president and business school dean say criticism of a $1 million grant from the Koch Foundation is unfounded and treats debatable positions as official Church teaching.

“We think the groups complaining about the Koch Foundation gift are suggesting a litmus test that neither we nor they would want to apply to other cases,” university president John Garvey and Dean Andrew Abela of the university’s School of Business and Economics said in a Feb. 20 Wall Street Journal essay.

“We welcome constructive criticism, but we believe it would be a mistake to stifle debate by pretending that genuinely controversial positions are official church teaching.”

CUA cuts ties with NASW (UPDATE)

WASHINGTON, D.C., November 11, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The new dean of Catholic University’s School of Social Service (NCSSS) is under fire from abortion supporters after announcing the school would no longer partner with the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) because of the group’s strong policy stance in favor of legalized abortion.

Will Rainford, who has served as dean of the National Catholic School of Social Service since June, told students in an email that he would “no longer allow NCSSS to officially partner or collaborate with NASW … based solely on NASW’s overt public position that social workers should advocate for access to abortions.”

You can read the rest here.

Way to go CUA!!!!!

++++++++++

Update:

Someone I have known for apx. 15 years, and who has been in the field of social work even longer, wrote the following to me:

wow...good for CUA! NASW is a militant advocator for pro-choice; gay and lesbian issues; yet they are silent and ineffective on advocating for social workers in this country (i.e. economic compensation for what social workers do; demanding respect for what social workers do -- fyi -- social workers provide over 50% of all mental health in this country--which excludes child & adult protection; psychiatrists provide about 10% yet the American Psychiatric Association is an extremely powerful and wealthy organization--they are the ones that just re-did the psych diagnosing (DSM 5)etc....). It was not NASW that stood up to the Psychiatric Association -- it was NIH who said....nope, we don't agree with your diagnosing so we're going to come up with our own! It'll be interesting what NASW does from this CUA event....CUA school of social work is one of the top ones in the country so it holds a lot of weight....we'll see......

CUA to launch business school, teaching faith and morals...

The Washington, D.C., university will announce the launch of its new School of Business and Economics on Tuesday, infusing an education in strategy, accounting and marketing with instruction in morals, character and religious values.

Created in response to rising demand for business education, the program’s virtues-based approach hinges on the idea that business is meant to foment social good and not just financial success; that’s a departure from a traditional business education, which focuses mainly on how to maximize profits.

“Business is supposed to be a service to society,” says Andrew Abela, chair of the business and economics program, now housed in Catholic’s School of Arts and Sciences and comprised mostly of undergraduate students.

The school is focusing more on the Catholic concept of natural law in its undergraduate ethics course. And starting this spring, its introductory business class will address the social impact of commerce.

CUA Trustee is Catholic for Obama Supporter!

It seems that a member of the Catholic University of America Board of Trustees is also one of the top Catholic for Obama supporters.   According to their website:

Attorney Mark Tuohey III is a partner for Brown Rudnick in Washington, D.C. Tuohey is currently the Vice Chair of Fordham University Board of Trustees and a member of the Catholic University of America Board of Trustees, as well as the Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good Board of Directors.

Now does that not beat all.

Here we have one of the key supporters of the man who will force Catholic institutions, such as CUA, to fund abortions and contraceptives against their will, on the Board of Trustees.

It is time for the CUA President, Archbishop Wuerl, Msgr. Rossi and all the others to ask Mr. Tuohey to resign from the Board of Trustees.  If he refuses, then he should be forced off the Board.

Another embarrassment upon our Church!
