 Congratulations to the members of Sacred Heart Council #2577 (Bowie, MD).  They collected approximately 1,000 food items from parishioners of the four churches the council serves.  the food was donated to he Bowie Food Pantry.

Congratulations Rock Creek Council (KofC #2797)

 Congratulations to Rock Creek Council in Bethesda, MD. 

It hosted a charity chess tournament to benefit a local military and veteran service organization.  More than 50 people competed, including youth from local chess clubs.  In addition to raising more than $800, the council also collected about $650 worth of food donations for the organization.

Satanic Graffiti Outside of St. Joseph's on Capitol Hill

 

A D.C. Knights of Columbus chapter removed satanic graffiti from outside a parish on Capitol Hill this past Saturday. 

On Saturday morning, Patrick Abbott, an officer in local Patrick Cardinal O’Boyle Council 11302 of the Knights of Columbus, received a text message from a fellow Knight. He was asking about an image that had appeared on the sidewalk outside of the church of St. Joseph’s on Capitol Hill. 

“I took one look at the photo and said it was Satanic graffiti,” said Abbott. “I offered to wash it up and headed out to clean it.”

Congratulations St. Philip Neri Council #14612 (Knights of Columbus)

 

 

St. Philip Neri Council (Linthicum Heights, MD) helped transport thousands of pounds of groceries to the parish food pantry after collections organized by a council member and his family.   

 Harley Kozushko's young daughters asked that friends participating in their drive-by birthday parades bring food items instead of gifts. 

The two celebrations brought in more than 2,300 obs. of food, which Knights delivered to St. Philip Neri Church.

DC Knights of Columbus and the $64,000 Question

Even among the Knights of Columbus, there is dirty politics...

 

Amando Alvarez was the State Deputy for the Knights of Columbus DC State Council in 2017/2018.   He was a good person but a bit hard headed and very disorganized.

While Mr. Alvarez was State Deputy, Otto Heck (Patrick Cardinal O’Boyle Council #11302) was the DC State Council Treasurer.  

It seems that Mr. Heck was very disruptive on a number of occasions, at a number of functions, mainly at council events.  Usually, something “ticked” him off, and he would go off.  This was exacerbated due, as my Irish friend would say, “he liked a bit of the drink.”  

It seems that this became a real problem within his council.  So, the council approached Amando about this problem, which has become well known.

Amando brought Otto up on charges of unbecoming a Knight.  

It looked like Otto was going to get the boot, but a deal was struck:  He could keep his position, but he had to sign a document stating that his behavior was unbecoming of a Knight of Columbus and took full responsibilities for the damaged caused.

Normally, the story would end, but my source tells me that Otto was not one to take this lightly and decided to seek revenge.

To do that, he turned to Brandon Brown.  Mr. Brown is from the St. Michael the Archangel Council #14823.

Brandon wanted to be State Deputy and always felt that he would be a better one than Amando.   And so, he saw this as his opportunity to get elected to State Deputy.

So, phone calls were made and it seems he got quite a number of the other Grand Knights, to vote for him as State Deputy. 

An inside source tells me that a deal was struck, but that he did not know what it was

I have not been able to discover what the deal exactly was, even asking around a bit. 

So, do any of you know what was the deal struck between Brandon Brown and his supporters?  

That is the $64,000 question that does not have an answer.

Congratulations to Rock Creek Council (Knights of Columbus) #2797 located in Bethesda, MD.

They collected items for wounded service members and vets at Walter Reed.  In working with the American Red Cross, they collected books, snacks, toiletries, toys, clothing and gift cards.

Even in the midst of the terrible events in the Church, there are many who continue to work to bring Christ's message of Hope and Charity to others.

The Fr. O'Neill Council, in Luthersville, MD, hosted the 10th Annual Jessica Meredith Jacobsen 5K Memorial Walk/Run.   Over the last 10 years, it has raised over 120,000 with funds primarily supporting the House of Ruth, a domestic violence shelter, and Immaculate Conception School.

Jessica Meredeth Jacobsen was a mother who left behind two children, when she died due to domestic violence.

Sacred Heart Council of Bowie, MD hosted its 19th Dave Grabowski Memorial Pro-Life Classic to benefit The Gabriel Network.  The event raised $12,000 to support this pro-life ministry.   Here is their website.

Knights of Columbus to no longer sponsor Boy Scout Troops & Packs

The following was dated on Nov. 18th and was sent to me by my good friend Melvin.   

There are apx. 1100 BSA Scout Units sponsored by Knights of Columbus Councils.

It is from the Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus and is to be carried out asap, but no later than the end of 2016.

He does not believe, and I agree with him, that this really has anything to do with strengthening parish life.  

What it really has to do is that BSA does not see the KofC as a religious institution but one just like the Elks Lodge or Moose Lodge.  In other words, it would be forced to accept homosexual leadership. 

Gay Birthday Bash and Fr. Rosensteel Council

A few weeks ago, I wrote to you about an article in the Washington comPost about the refusal by a DJ to play at at birthday party.  The bottom line is that it is a birthday party hosted by a gay couple, for another gay may, who was the former "partner" of the ohter.  You can read about it here.

Well, our colleague over at Restore DC Catholicism has once again done yeoman work in tracking down the fact that the party ill be on Saturday evening, August 8th.  

It seems that the leadership of the Knights do not have a problem with this, but given the liberal Catholyc leanings of the PGK, it does not surprise this author.  

Some are calling for a protest.  Others are calling for you to contact the Council leadership.  

My guess is that they had no clue about the party until it was booked, but when they did, it did not seem to bother them.

At this point, I do not think that they will budge but I do think that you should contact the current  DGK.  The Fr. Rosensteel Council website has not been updated, as the listed Deputy Grand Knight (DGK) is now the Grand Knight.

Let them know that what is taking place is not in the best interest of the Knights or of the Church.  And if they cannot get out of this, ask what they are going to do to prevent this in the future.

Pope Francis, please stay at home in Rome, and save the climate!

Is Fr. Rosensteel Council hosting Gay Birthday Party in August? (Update)

Today's Washington Post has an article entitled:  "Company declines to provide a DJ for a gay man's party."   In this (and I will have more on this in another posting, as I have seen his whining, hypocritical email), talks about a birthday party hosted by a gay couple for another gay man, and how the DJ company said that they would not handle the event.  Note that the birthday boy, was the "former partner" of the of the person mentioned below.

In the article, it stated that the party is to be held at the local Knights of Columbus hall.  It seems that the only KofC hall, in the area where the gay couple lives, is the Fr. Rosensteel Council.

Now, we would not have known any of this, had it not been that Tom Tsakounis (46) of Silver Spring, had not talked about this with The Washington Post.  

So:  Is Fr. Rosensteel Council hosting a birthday party for a gay person, sponsored by a gay couple? 

They probably did not know about it, when it was booked, but now that they know, what is their answer?


Update - June 16, 2015

As mentioned to you earlier, I do have a copy of the email. (Thank you Melvin for it.) Unfortunately, the Washington comPost article does not mention some key points.  So here are my thoughts...

• The author's last name is never revealed in the email. So, we only know that he lives in the South Four Corner area of MoCo.
• The author never mentioned where the party was to be held.
• The author states that he "appreciates that we live in country that is filled with diversity and I will fight to the death to preserve and defend each person's right to believe what they want to believe and defend their faith in whatever way they deem appropriate."  Now, if this is the case, why are you so upset when they do not want to do a party that would go against their belief system?   Should you not respect them? 
• The author then tells everyone that if you do not support same sex marriage or the LGBTQ community, you might not want to continue reading.  Why?  You made composed this huge email and then tell people who do not support your sexual orientation not to read any further.  Why?
• He continues by telling everyone that "hate is alive and well in" MoCo.  So, so someone who disagrees with you and whom you promised to fight to the death for, suddenly is hate filled?  That seems pretty hypocritical to me.
• The author then goes into the story and relates that he received a couple of DJ names and numbers from the South Four Corner listserv.  His sister agreed to help and as the comPost correctly states, contacted the DJ in question.   Now, here is the interesting part:  When the sister learned that as a Christian business that they were "not comfortable with providing service to a party like this.  My sister told him she was no longer interested in using their business." 
• There was nothing in the author's email stating that email that said that the DJ representative was rude, yelling, cursing, making any gay slurs, etc.  And, more importantly, you (or at least your sister) ultimately stated that she did not want to do business with them.  That was your call. 

Also, if you know that the KofC is a Catholic organization, why did you book the party there?   Was it to embarrass the KofC - a Catholic organization?  Did you do it because you know their stance on gay marriage and homosexual behavior and thought that it might make for a good laugh with your buddies?  

Personally, I believe that Tom Tsakounis is:

• playing the "victim" and loving all of the attention that it gets him
• a hypocrite
• a BULLY.

Pro-Life in Action by the KofC of Fr. Peter Paul Maher Counci #6793

Congratulations to the Knights of Columbus of Fr. Peter Paul Maher Council (#6793) who assisted the widow of a brother knight move into a new assisted living facility.  Two trucks and two vans worth of materials were moved in one afternoon.

Some thoughts on the Conclave

Over the last few weeks, I keep hearing from many "progressive" or "liberal" Catholics that we must have a pope which moves the Church forward.  That we must change as to be a reflection of the time.  Whether that be married clergy, women priests, accepting of gay marriages, etc., we must change.  That we need a pope like that of John XXIII. 

A friend of mine recently pointed me to the blog of Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the head of the Catholic Church in NYC.  He wrote: "Billy Graham use to say, the aim of life is to change our lives to conform to God's will, not to change God's will to match ours.  We let God re-create us in His image; we do not attempt to create God in our image. "

As the conclave has now officially begun, it is important for Catholics (and those in Communion with Rome) to pray for our Cardinals, that the Holy Spirit guides them to choose the person who is best for the Church at this time.

Let us keep in mind the following prayer, which has been promoted by the Knights of Columbus:

Lord Jesus Christ , Supreme Pastor of Your Church,
we thank you for the ministry of Pope Benedict XVI
and the selfless care with which he has led us
as Successor of Peter, and Your Vicar on earth.

Good Shepherd, who founded Your Church
on the rock of Peter's faith
and have never left Your flock untended,

and sustain Your Church in faith, hope, and charity.
