Let the USCCB Know You Do Not Support ILLEGAL ALIENS

The USCCB has decided, it seems, to take the tact of supporting the Obama administration on mess they (Obama adinistration) created with the huge influx of ILLEGAL ALIENS.   Note that this is the same administration that is willing to put the screws to the Catholic Church over health care, abortion, gay marriage, etc.

In order to defend their stance, Keivn Appleby (formerly of the Maryland Catholic Conference) will be speaking at St. Matthew's Cathedral (1725 Rhode Island Ave NW, Washington, DC 20036) on Saturday, July 26th at 9am in the North Conference Room.    Mr. Appleby is currently the  Director of Migration Policy and Public Afairs at the USCCB.

If you OPPOSE ILLEGAL ALIENS entering the US, then this is your chance to let him know.

Go there.

Be Polite.

State Your Case.

Let them know that you are unhappy and may withhold donations.

 

Dissent Comes to Holy Trinity (Again)

Although Holy Trinity no longer advertises VOTF meetings (but they are still listed as the "sponsor" of the VOTF chapter in DC), it would seem to me that they are attempting to pick up the slack given that St. Al's is no longer operating.

On Oct. 6th, Sr. Simone Campbell will be speaking there on social justice. 

Yes, this is the same Sr. Campbell who did the "nuns on the bus" tour (who sponsored it, I would like to know), spoke at the Democrat Convention to criticise Rep. Paul Ryan and is willing to give her opinion on a number of other issues, but when it comes to abortion, she has none.

Here is the question asked of her by The Weekly Standard (Sept. 5, 2012):


TWS: On the legal question, do you think there should be penalties against abortion doctors? I mean, should it be illegal to perform abortions?
CAMPBELL: That’s beyond my pay grade. I don’t know.

You don't know?  Give me a break.

It is really shameful that a Catholic Church would give her any platform on which to speak.

Catholic Social Justice is "Corrupted"

May 11, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In a video released today, American Life League, the nation’s largest Catholic pro-life group, has called for a complete investigation of Catholic social justice organizations for embracing population control advocate Dr. Jeffrey Sachs.

Entitled “Aborting Poverty”, the investigative video outlines Dr. Jeffrey Sachs’ history of population control as the primary means for ending poverty. According to the video, Dr. Sachs, a professor of economics at Columbia University, has said one of the best ways to fight poverty rates is to reduce population growth and fertility rates with voluntary birth control, sterilizations, and abortion.

The US: A Welfare State

I recently read an article which states that 1/3 of the US is receiving some sort of "handout" from the government - Social Security, Medicare, unemployment, etc.

Now I know that a number of you will take me to task on Social Security, saying that people have paid into it, but in reality, it is really a Ponzi scheme. Let's admit it. There is no money in the system. There is no ALGORE lock box. It has been raided to pay for other things.

This got me to thinking (which can be dangerous), that if this is the case, it says that we are doing something radically wrong with some, if not all of these programs.

This lead me to further thinking about the statement of the Social Justice Directors of the Catholic Church (and the USCCB). Their latest message was not to cut any social program but to increase them.

To me, this is a recipe for disaster, since the Social Justice crowd just wants to keep doing the same old, same old.

Maybe it is time to look at wiping out some of these programs, just like CCHD.

Catholic Standard Weekly Update

Yes, folks, it is that time again (trumpets blare, drums roll): The Catholic Standard Weekly Update.

The cover focuses on one of the new regional schools: St. Francis International School. This story also continues on Page 5 and 6.

We have some clergy appointments. This now seems to be a regular feature in the Standard appearing on Page 2 (inside cover).

There are some stories on the 5th Anniversary of Katrina.

Since it is Labor Day weekend, we have a couple of stories on the economy and labor.

We do have a Reflection by a retired worker on Labor Day by Bob Stewart. Mr. Stewart also wrote a piece last year. However, just like last year, the Catholic Standard left out of his biography that he was the head of Voice of the Faithful (VOTF) at Holy Trinity -- a dissident group. Of course, no one ever mentions the corruption of union leadership in their labor day messages, or how unions are big supporters of gay marriages, abortion, etc., or the violence they committed in support of Obama's Health Care Disaster. But, let's not let these little things stand in the way of a good opinion piece.

We have a good story on Lech Walesa by George Weigel.

The Standard has the center insert dealing with the Maryland Catholic Conference survey of candidates for Maryland Governor, Assembly and US Congress.

I would have thought that Fr. Daly's Parish Diary would reflect on Labor Day. Nope. He decided to step right into the NYC Mosque and as always, gets in way over his head on this and really misses the point.

• Did you see any mention of his support for the Orthodox Church which stood across the street from the WTC, which is cannot be rebuilt? Nope.
• Did you see any mention of the fact that the person who is pushing for the "mosque" wants to establish Sharia law in the US? I did not.
• Did you see any mention that there are apx. 100 mosques in NYC currently? Nope.
• Did you see any information that this person who wishes to establish the Mosque has changed his story a couple of times or that he is a slum lord. Nope.

I wonder if Fr. Daly was opposed to Disney's America?

We have an article about the County Council candidate forum sponsored by the Justice and Advocacy Council of MoCo of the Archdiocese of Washington. Our colleague over at Restore DC Catholicism was there and reported on it. There was no question and answer period, there was no mention of abortion, the strong arm tactics against pro-life centers, the opposition to tax credits for Catholic school parents, no discussion of gay marriage, etc.

Tell me, does not Social Justice apply to the unborn? Does not Social Justice call for tax relief to those parents who save MoCo millions of dollars each year who send their children to Catholic Schools? Does not Social Justice apply to pro-life centers. Yet not one word was asked of these candidates at the forum. FOR SHAME!

And you wonder why many of us do not trust the "social justice" crowd.
