The McCarrick Report and +Gregory

 Well, by now, you know that the McCarrick Report has been out.  

In case you did not read it, let me share with you the section which mentions +Gregory:

In early 2004, Cardinal McCarrick and then-USCCB President Bishop
Wilton Gregory (2001-2004) traveled to Rome to meet about the issue with
CDF Prefect Cardinal Ratzinger and Congregation for Bishops Prefect
Cardinal Re.641 In June and July 2004, some Catholic groups, which self-identified
as “conservative,” accused McCarrick of having mis-characterized
a private letter, later divulged by a news organization but never published by
either the USCCB or the Holy See, that Cardinal Ratzinger had provided to
McCarrick and Bishop Gregory following their Rome meeting.
McCarrick, who has stated that he had remained in close contact with
Cardinal Ratzinger regarding how to address the issue, was never reproached
by the Holy See for his handling of the matter.643 Nonetheless, McCarrick’s
interpretation was thereafter referred to by some as mis-representative of
what Cardinal Ratzinger had intended and as a distortion of Catholic
teaching.

 

Personally, I don't believe it.  If this is the case, then the easiest way to clarify the matter would be to release the letter.  However, they won't because, as I believe, it will show that +Gregory hid vital information from his brother bishops.

 

 

National Migration Week - Questions to Ask?

We are in the middle of the USCCB National Migration Week.   

Now, I did not realize it, until the Archdiocese of Washington advertised it the other day.

So I have a couple of questions:

• How much money does the Archdiocese of Washington takes in directly, via the Federal, State an Local government contracts, to help take care of illegal aliens?
• How much money does the Archdiocese of Washington takes in indirectly, via the Federal, State and Local government contracts to help take care of illegal aliens?
• How much money do the various diocese around the country take in via contracts (Federal, State and Local Levels)?

 I do not have an answer for it, but I know many diocese keep this sort of stuff hidden.  Why?  Because they would prefer that most do not know that they are supporting an illegal activity, and it allows them to "proselytize" indirectly.

Does anyone know how much they spend on supporting illegal aliens?

PS: Did you notice that the USCCB no longer puts their communications materials on their site, like they use to?  They want you to sign-up, so that they know exactly who is using their materials.

Congratulatons Msgr. Ranieri! Ad Multos Annos!

After two years of college seminary, Joseph Ranieri learned the Archdiocese of New York would not allow him to become a priest. The reason: New York had “too many priests.” 

Ranieri was informed that — as the child of a broken home — he did not “make the cut” for the see’s major seminary.

Just as his road to the priesthood seemed to come to a dead-end in New York, God opened a new path. And for the past 60 years, Msgr. Ranieri, 86, has served as a priest of the Archdiocese of Washington instead.

“But that was God’s providence,” he told the Register, his New York accent as strong as ever. “I would not have traded my ministry in Washington for anything in the world.”

More than 65 years after New York thought he would not make much of a priest, Msgr. Joseph Ranieri received a different letter from the current archbishop of New York, Cardinal Timothy Dolan. This time, Msgr. Ranieri was asked to accept a 2018 “People of Life” award from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to give national recognition to his 10 years of priestly ministry with Project Rachel, a post-abortion-healing ministry.

 The Director and Editor in Chief of the Catholic News Service, which is the official news and information service of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, has issued public statements decrying proposed legislation in several states that would protect religious freedom and deny men pretending to be women the “right” to enter women’s bathrooms. 

Tony Spence been the head of the Catholic News Service since 2004.  Over the last few weeks, Spence has been publishing statements on his own twitter feed, identifying him as the head of CNS, speaking out against legislative efforts to protect the religious freedoms of individuals, businesses and churches.

Let the USCCB Know You Do Not Support ILLEGAL ALIENS

The USCCB has decided, it seems, to take the tact of supporting the Obama administration on mess they (Obama adinistration) created with the huge influx of ILLEGAL ALIENS.   Note that this is the same administration that is willing to put the screws to the Catholic Church over health care, abortion, gay marriage, etc.

In order to defend their stance, Keivn Appleby (formerly of the Maryland Catholic Conference) will be speaking at St. Matthew's Cathedral (1725 Rhode Island Ave NW, Washington, DC 20036) on Saturday, July 26th at 9am in the North Conference Room.    Mr. Appleby is currently the  Director of Migration Policy and Public Afairs at the USCCB.

If you OPPOSE ILLEGAL ALIENS entering the US, then this is your chance to let him know.

Go there.

Be Polite.

State Your Case.

Let them know that you are unhappy and may withhold donations.

 

The USCCB shares the blame for ObamaCare...

Here is an interesting article.  And yes, I agree with it.

Currently, 4.8M+ Americans have lost or will lose their health insurance (with perhaps 100M+ more to come, if competent economists are to be believed). Thousands of doctors have been dropped by health insurance carriers, are leaving (or likely to leave) the practice of medicine, or forming concierge practices. The doctor shortage is expected to grow, perhaps creating long waiting lines for people who need immediate medical care. Untold numbers of Americans cannot keep their doctors or medical treatments, as the President himself promised on many occasions. There’s certainly a lot of blame to pass around on this one. And the USCCB certainly deserves its share of the blame. Why?

They didn’t heed the warnings of those economists who were predicting these deleterious consequences long before Obamacare was enacted. Worse yet, the bishops may end up having compromised their teaching authority in the process.

Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) on Medjugorje presentations in the US

According to a letter from the Apostolic Nuncio to the USCCB, it seems that one of the visionaries of Medjugorje will be giving presentations in a number of parishes in the US.  According to the letter:

"clerics and the faithful are not permitted to participate in meetings, conferences or public celebrations during which the credibility of such ‘apparitions’ would be taken for granted.”

A Non-Political Event my...

Well, it has been a while since the Catholic Standard wrote something that I really must wonder "What were they thinking?"

In the August 29th edition, Mark Zimmerman wrote a piece entitled:  Catholics need to help make 'the dream' a reality, panelists say.

What bothers me about the article is that Mr. Zimmerman sees this is a non-partisan event. 

So, who "sponsored" this non-partisan event: Catholic Democrats, Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good and Pax Christi, USA.   

As you can see, all of these organizations are non-partisan in nature and the event was non-partisan, as it included a number of conservative Catholic groups.   The conservative Catholic groups were....  Oh, yes, there were no conservative Catholic groups.

And, who was one of the main panelists?  Tom Perez, pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage Secretary of Labor AND a member of Holy Redeemer parish.  Supporter of Obamacare.

And who else spoke, well there was Ralph McCloud, the director of the USCCB Catholic Campaign for Human Development.  You remember Mr. McCloud, the treasurer for a pro-abortion Democrat in Texas.  You remember Mr. McCloud, the person who supposedly has verified that all those receiving money from CCHD are not in violation of Catholic teaching.  Yeah, right.

So, Mr. Zimmerman and the good folks over in Hyattsville...this event was just as bad as the actual anniversary of the March on Washington, in which it became a love fest for the Democrat Party.

How did a pro-abortionist/pro-homosexual marriage member of this administration get to speak at a Catholic venue?  Who approved of it?  Did anyone in Hyattsville know about this?

Is this what we support with our weekly donations?  No wonder why Obama and the Democrat Party are not scared of us, they know that we will invite them to our institutions, hire them to work for us and in general, allow ourselves to have our own Fifth Column.


 
 

USCCB: Throwing Money at Those Who Oppose Us

Our colleague over at Restore DC Catholicism has reported that the USCCB is throwing another $800K towards illegal aliens.  Some will be going to their front group, but other funds will be going to an organization which opposes the Catholic Church on a number of issues.  

Why are we doing this?  Why don't we just throw the money donated by the faithful out the window.  At least it may go to someone who can use it.
 

Boys Scouts and the Catholic Church

WASHINGTON, D.C., January 2, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In an internal memo sent to diocesan Catholic Campaign for Human Development directors, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has claimed that the “near totality” of a critical report about its grantees is “based on false suppositions” and “tenuous connections.”

At the same time, the U.S. Bishops domestic anti-poverty agency has amended its website to accuse the report’s researchers – namely those with the pro-life group American Life League - of having a “consistent track record of misreporting.” The pro-life group has responded that CCHD has offered no evidence of the misreporting.

The Wind of Change Comes to USCCB - Thanks Be To God!

When John Carr retired from the staff of the US bishops’ conference, after helping to shape the bishops’ statements on political issues for more then 25 years, we wondered whether his departure signaled a shift in USCCB policy. Today we have our answer: Yes, it does.  Jonathan J. Reyes, who will be taking Carr’s post in December, will be coming to Washington from Denver, where he was head of Catholic Charities. His work there, and especially his involvement in projects like “Christ in the City,” testify to his belief that Christian charitable work is inseparable from evangelization. In other words he sees charitable work as a witness to faith, not a call for government support.

The resumés of these two men provide a vivid contrast. Whereas John Carr was hired by the Carter administration, and worked for the White House Conference on Families. Reyes was hired by Archbishop Chaput, and worked for the Fellowship of Catholic University Students. Carr sat on the board of the leftist Center for Community Change; Reyes is co-founder of the Augustine Institute. Carr will be taking a post at Harvard’s Kennedy School; Reyes is a former vice-president of Christendom College.

Girl Scout Controversy Continues

My parish, like many others, sponsor a couple of different Girl Scout Troops, run by many of the moms in the parish.  A while back, I wrote about some issues with the Girl Scouts. 

It seems that this is an issue which will not go away for them.

Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades of Fort Wayne-South Bend, chairman of the U.S. bishops’ Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth, said that the bishops are looking into concerns about the Girl Scouts organization.

In March, Bishop Rhoades penned a letter to his fellow bishops explaining that the committee recently met and discussed “a variety of the concerns” that have been voiced about Girl Scouts of the USA over several years, including “possible problematic relationships with other organizations” and “problematic programmatic materials and resources.”

Help save true marriage:

People are very passionate about this issue,” said Derek McCoy, executive director of the Maryland Marriage Alliance. “We are working hard to win this.”McCoy told CNA on April 3 that the alliance has worked “feverishly” over the past few weeks to develop petition drives and train people to run them.

The alliance is leading a referendum campaign, joining with the Maryland Catholic Conference, the Maryland Family Alliance and other national and local groups of different political and religious backgrounds to defend the dignity of marriage.

It is time to go...

Many Catholic bloggers, including this humble one, have pointed out time and time again, the problems with the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops (USCCB) of which Archbishop Wuerl is a member.

We have shown the failure with CCHD, Immigration Week (remember the clowing around) and a a host of other issues. Well, it seems they have once again shown that they are either incompetant or corrupt. Maybe both.

Archbishop Wuerl, it is time for you to stand up against the corruption and incompetence of the USCCB. You are a part of this of this mess and you have an obligation to apologize and correct your failures.

Honor her? No, they should FIRE HER!

The USCCB issued a press release on February 12, 2009:

As part of its Annual Symposium, The Roundtable Association of Diocesan Social Action Directors will present Joan Rosenhauer, Associate Director of the Department of Justice, Peace and Human Development at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) with the Harry A. Fagan Roundtable Award at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Capitol Hill at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 21. The Roundtable selects one awardee annually who has made a lasting contribution to Catholic social action efforts, in light of Church teaching.

Most recent among her accomplishments, Rosenhauer had lead staff responsibility for the collaborative effort among many offices and bishops' committees at the USCCB in developing their 2007 document Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, which aimed to educate Catholics on the social teachings of the Church in order for them to make morally responsible choices in their political participation. Rosenhauer was able to help bring to fruition a statement that garnered widespread support among the U.S. bishops who voted almost unanimously in favor of its acceptance.

The document sold almost two million copies prior to the election. It reached people in parishes in almost every diocese in the country with Rosenhauer touring much of the nation herself, teaching about the document and training others to share its teaching as well.

In my opinion it was this document that lead to so much confusion among Catholics, giving the Catholic left, the "out" to vote for the Most Merciful, Lord High Barack Obama. It also allowed them to sow seeds of confusion and dissent among the faithful.

No, she should not be honored for this.

She SHOULD BE FIRED and ANYONE WHO VOTED FOR HER SHOULD BE FIRED.

The USCCB has once again shown that they cannot be trusted. The USCCB should be shut down and completely reformed.

The USCCB gets the "Slap off the Back of the Head Award" for another bonehead move.

First, Knights of Columbus for Obama...Now, a Knight for Obama at the USCCB and a Knight in Trouble

Well, it is bad enough that the USCCB has

- a questionable movie reviewer,
- spent millions of dollars on ACORN,
- give awards to non-Catholic, pro-illegal immigration "community organizers,"

now they are hiring Obama supporters.

Hey, why doesn't the USCCB just "pack it in." In other words, close up shop.

In a related story, Eric McFadden has been arrested and faces two counts of promoting prostitution, two counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor, two counts of pandering obscenity involving a nude minor and one count of compelling prostitution

In 2004, McFadden worked for Catholics for Kerry and in 2005, served as the president for the organization, Catholics for Faithful Citizenship. In 2006, he was a spokesperson for Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, and more recently, he was Hillary Clinton’s lead Catholic outreach organizer as the State Faith & Values Outreach Director during the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Additionally, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and reached the 4th order. Last year, he penned a letter to the Knights of Columbus asserting that Supreme Knight Carl Anderson was leading Catholics astray by suggesting that Catholics could not vote for pro-abortion candidates.

National Migration Week 2009

In honor of National Migration Week, I bring you the following...

Well, it looks like the USCCB is at it again with National Migration Week 2009. Although they are not clowning around this year, there is still lots of funny business.

Looking through some of the materials offered for use by teachers, I came across a song entitled: I AM AN ALIEN by Wilfred Suprena.

I guess the basic idea of the song is that all of us aliens and throughout the years aliens have been abused and taken advantage of.

However, as I reviewed the song, there are some questions (among many) that came to my mind regarding the song and aliens.

1. The song says that aliens have no skin color, but then the writer talks about "dark skin, red skin." What about "white skin"? Are their no aliens who are white? Or are those with "white skin" the "no skin color" ones? Are aliens only those who are "dark or red"? (Hey, don't call me racist, I am just using the songwriter's own words.)

2. She talks about aliens being made slaves in Ancient Rome and in the Middle Ages (probably in Europe). You mean that there were no "aliens" who were slave in other societies at other times? I guess there were no alien slaves in Ancient Egypt, Carthage, Greece, Timbuktu, Babylon, etc.

3. I am not certain what aliens have to do with Austerlitz? I had no idea that there were millions of aliens from the Czech Republic, did you?

4. I did not know that there were aliens from Auschwitz? Or is she saying that the prisoners kept and killed there were aliens? Or, when the war ended, those who were held there were aliens?

5. Nagasaki and Hiroshima? Again, I am not certain. Does she mean that the population in those cities were aliens, which is why it was bombed? Or did the population become aliens after it was bombed? Or, is it a way to throw a bone to the anti-nuclear/revisionist history crowd?

Ah yes, the funny business continues sans clown at the USCCB.

USCCB in dialog with Terrorist Supporters?

I came across this regarding the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops.

As announced in a PR release by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, "A newround of the Mid-Atlantic Muslim Catholic Dialogue," April 23-24, in Washington, looked at interreligious education in the United States. The meeting, which was convened by the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) and Catholic representatives of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' (USCCB) Committee on Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs, explored teaching about different religions in private and public institutions."

As the press release makes clear this event also included a high ranking member of the Council on American Islamic Relations [CAIR] "The discussion follows upon a meeting in 2007 where Safaa Zarzour described the development of a Muslim-Catholic educational exchange by the Council of Islamic Societies of Greater Chicago and the Archdiocese of Chicago. Zarzour chaired a panel of Muslim representatives at the April 23-24 meeting." CAIR is widely understood to be a supporter of the Palestinian terrorist organization HAMAS as well as having been named as an unindicted co-conspiratorin the ongoing U.S. vs. Holy Land Foundation, et. al., case the country's largest terror funding prosecution. Additionally, numerous CAIR officials have been convicted of terror related offenses, the most recently being Ghassan Elashi, founder of the Texas chapter of CAIR.

ICNA, the Islamic Circle of North America was founded in the early seventies as a da'wa propagation organization, its mission statement clearly identifies ICNA's purpose as one of establishing Islamic supremacy, "The goal of ICNA shall be to seek the pleasure of Allah (SWT) through the struggle of Iqamat-ud-Deen(establishment of the Islamic system of life) as spelled out in the Qur'an andthe Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad. [and to] invite mankind to submit to the Creator by using all means of communications...
