Christmas Cards...

For years, I have purchased most of my Christmas cards after Christmas. Sorry, it is not that I am cheap, but believe in a good bargain. And I only purchase religious Christmas cards - no Happy Holidays, Santa Claus ones, Happy Kwanzaa, etc. Strictly religious.

However, this year, more than ever, I have noticed the lack of religious cards. I went to a number of different stores: a Hallmark Card Store, American Greetings, Target, a Christmas Store, and a couple of others.

If I could find one religious design in each of these stores, it was a miracle. And what I did find was rather poor.

Now, I found enough for the 2011 Christmas season, but I may have to start ordering on-line for cards.

For many Catholics and Christians, wishing Merry Christmas with a religious card is just a thing of the past.

Come by St Raphael's Catholic church in Rockville on the last Sunday of November. The Respect for Life Committee sells Christmas cards (religious, obviously) to raise funds for Right to Life of Montgomery County.

If you have a Half Price Books store near you, they usually have a nice selection of religious Christmas cards. Not sure if they would still have them for sale though.

Last month I mailed religious Christmas cards (bouht from St. Bart's Church - NYC) to my friends who are Gregorian Christians and new years greeting cards to my friends who are not Christians. A few days ago I mailed my cards to my Julian Christian friends.

I don't buy cards made in Red China where the Catholic Church is oppressed. (Sadly, the Opus Dei bookstore sells them).

Oh, one more thing. I like cards that reproduce great works of religious art from the past. But if I am buying something of modern design for the American market, I really don't care for the historically inaccurate blond/blue eyed depiction of the Holy Family.

Amazingly, what I'm looking for can be very hard to find.

Mr. Flapatap:

Yes, the Respect Life group in my parish sells them at the same time each year. And I usually purchase at least to boxes/packages. (The relatives really like them.) This year, they did not. I don't know why.

You could probably contact Right to Life of Montgomery County directly to see what churches will be selling them.
