Maryland Transgender Bill Killed

Maryland Senators today voted to quash a bill that would have added ‘transgender’ as a protected class when it comes to employment, credit, and housing discrimination.

The bill, called “Gender Identity Anti-Discrimination Act,” had been much-debated, even among gay rights activists, with some calling Senate members “discriminatory” for seemingly delaying its passage and others crying for its rejection, saying the bill did not go far enough in protection.

Too bad they did not do that for the "Dream Act" which was supported by the Maryland Catholic Conference. BTW, I know that the MCC was against this bill but I don't remember seeing anything on it. Do you?

MD Citizens Support True and Traditional Marriage

To Richard Madaleno, Jeffrey D. "Jeff" Waldstreicher, James C. Rosapepe et al.:

A new poll shows that most Maryland voters believe that marriage should only be between a man and a woman, while a supermajority believe the people, not the legislature, should define marriage.

A Lawrence Research poll released on Feb. 17 asked Maryland voters whether marriage should be between a man and a woman or whether it should be available to same-sex couples. About 54 percent of Maryland voters support the traditional definition of marriage, while only 37 percent supported same-sex “marriage.”

Asked whether marriage should be decided by the state legislature or voters, 78 percent thought that voters should decide on the legal definition of marriage while only 14 percent thought the legislature should.

Someone to Vote Against in the Next Election

A reader sent me a copy of an email received from the District 18 Democrats (Richard "Homosexual Rights" Magdaleno, Al Carr, Jeff "Pro-lifers are extremists" Waldsteicher and Ana Sol "There are no illegals" Gutiérrez).

The email focuses on her support of education and in it she states:

Throughout our term, Senator Rich Madaleno, Delegate Al Carr, Delegate Jeff Waldstreicher, and I have fought for our schools, our teachers and--most importantly--our students. Working together, we have:

Helped close the achievement gap by making sure all students are taught by the highest quality teachers (1);
Led the fight against giving taxpayer dollars to religious private schools by actively opposing the BOAST Bill (2);
Provided record funding for K-12 public education every year for the past four years, including the much-needed Geographic Cost of Education Index (GCEI) in additional state funding (3).

Yes, Catholics...how many of you have supported them in the past? Will you continue to support them? Do you like to be double taxed?

The Maryland Catholic Conference which has partnered with her in their support of illegal aliens. It is my hope that they drop their support of her on this and all other issues until she comes around to support Catholic schools. Our schools are closing and she is helping to close them.

Let's remember them in November and throw them out on their butts.

A city named after a saint, yet so anti-Catholic

Someone posted a link to this on my blog today.

A San Francisco city and county board resolution that officially labeled the Catholic church's moral teachings on homosexuality as "insulting to all San Franciscans," "hateful," "defamatory," "insensitive" and "ignorant" will be challenged tomorrow in court for violating the Constitution's prohibition of government hostility toward religion.

Resolution 168-08, passed unanimously by the City and County of San Francisco Board of Supervisors two years ago, also accused the Vatican of being a "foreign country" meddling with and attempting to "negatively influence (San Francisco's) existing and established customs."

It said of the church's teaching on homosexuality, "Such hateful and discriminatory rhetoric is both insulting and callous, and shows a level of insensitivity and ignorance which has seldom been encountered by this Board of Supervisors."

I thought that all of you who have no problem electing homosexual or pro-homosexual politicians, such Sen. Obama, Sen. Clinton, Raskin (MD), Sen. R. Madaleno (MD) may want to think twice.

Maybe it is time for a boycott of the City by the Bay.

Help Stop Maryland Senate SB 566

SB 566 equates unmarried couples with married couples

The full Senate is expected to vote no later than Monday, on on a bill that would equate unmarried couples, both same-sex and heterosexual, with married couples and undermine the current legal status of marriage.

Contact your State Senator and ask him/her to oppose SB 566.

Unfortunately, this is what Catholics get when they vote for pro-homosexual senators such as Sen. Richard Madaleno.

This is what the Maryland Catholic Conference (MCC) gets when they cozy up to a senator like him.

You get a slow erosion of basic moral values.

Pro-Abortion MD State Senators attempt to muzzle Pro-Life Pregnancy Centers

An article in My Catholic Standard (Archdiocese of Washington DC) reports on the attempts by State Sen. Rickard Madaleno, Forehand and Raskin to force pro-life pregnancy centers to state that they are not required to provide medically accurate information. This is Senate Bill 690.

(Note: I congratulate the editor of My Catholic Standard for finally identifying those who support these pieces of legislation. It is something that I have taken him to task for on previous occasions.)

This is based on a report from NARAL which “investigated” eleven clinics. Now, I did not read the report but remembering NARAL’s previous handiwork, I am always dubious of their reports.

For example, Bernard Nathanson, co-founder of NARAL, always said that the numbers of illegal abortions that were put out were false.

About 15 years ago, one of their top people decided to let the cat out of the bag on violence against clinics? He stated that the numbers were made up. (I use to have an article on him at home but cannot find it. In it, he stated that each year they increased it a little bit just to show that it increased. So, if anyone remembers his name, please let me know. Oh, and this does not mean that there are not acts of violence – and praying in front of a clinic is not an act of violence.)

Finally, remember, pro-life clinics are in direct competition to NARAL and Planned Parenthood. If you can put some doubt in the minds of those who may use the competition, then you can cause the competition a slow death.

State Sen. Madeleno is not only open about his homosexual lifestyle but is also the one pushing to redefine the definition of marriage in the State of Maryland.

Sen. Forehand (also representing Mont. County) is the recipient of the Betty Tyler Public Affairs Award, Planned Parenthood of Maryland, 1992. Although she is not for same sex marriages (although I am not certain of her stance on other options), she is 100% pro-abortion.

Sen. Jamie Raskin has a rating NARAL rating of 100%, and is supported by NOW Maryland. He is proud of the fact that he supports abortion and makes no bones about it.

So, my fellow Catholics, the next time you go to the polls and these politicians are up for re-election, remember to ask yourself: Do they support my Catholic beliefs or do they not? The answer is very clear: they do not and should not be re-elected.

Open Letter to the Editor of My Catholic Standard

Dear Mr. Zimmerman:

In your article, Maryland lawmakers consider measures to redefine marriage, allow gay ‘marriages’ (Feb. 21, 2008 page 7), you don’t mention any of any of the lawmakers, with the exception of one, who are either the sponsors or supporters of these measures.

For example, Sen. Richard S. Madaleno, Jr., has stated to me, in writing:

I am the Senate sponsor of the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act (SB290). As such, I have been working to extend the freedom to marry to same-sex couples. It is my view that the only way to confer all the rights of marriage to unmarried couples is through legislation like SB290.

Since you mention that bill in particular, I am surprised that you do not mention him. Why?

Is it because you don’t want to get any of them upset with My Catholic Standard?
Do you feel that if you name them, they will no longer support issues that the Maryland Catholic Conference (MCC) supports such as abolishing the death penalty or in-state tuition for illegal aliens?

Or is it, as a friend of mine has stated, there is fear in the Archdiocese that a number of Catholic clergy and religious may be “outed?”

Here is a prime opportunity to let Catholics know who is supporting our issues and who is not. Yet, you and the Catholic Standard have chosen to remain silent.
It cannot be because of space, since you have devoted pages to Lobby Night 2008, what would two or three more inches make to the article.

All I ask is why?
