The Rehabilitaton of Cardinal Wuerl has begun!

Well, it seems that Cardinal Wuerl, who has been laying low for the past few weeks, has started to make some public appearances.  I consider this to be the start of his rehabilitation into the the public's view. 

This week's Catholic Standard (March 21, 2019) has three articles highlighting his activities in the Archdiocese:  

1. The Editor's Notebook by Mark Zimmermann.  In it, he writes about Cardinal Wuerl at the Rite of Election and the Call to Continuing Conversion, and we read of his comments during the homily.
2. The article on Ash Wednesday (Page 6) states that Cardinal Wuerl was the principal celebrant and homilist at Mass at the Cathedral.
3. Blessing of Benedict Hall in late January by Cardinal Wuerl (Page 11).  Interesting on how that was not reported in January, but now, over two months later.

I expect to see the next issue of the Catholic Standard to be the same, with the continuing rehabilitation of Cardinal Wuerl.  

Is anyone up to taking bets on when he will be featured on the cover of the Standard?

A Non-Political Event my...

Well, it has been a while since the Catholic Standard wrote something that I really must wonder "What were they thinking?"

In the August 29th edition, Mark Zimmerman wrote a piece entitled:  Catholics need to help make 'the dream' a reality, panelists say.

What bothers me about the article is that Mr. Zimmerman sees this is a non-partisan event. 

So, who "sponsored" this non-partisan event: Catholic Democrats, Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good and Pax Christi, USA.   

As you can see, all of these organizations are non-partisan in nature and the event was non-partisan, as it included a number of conservative Catholic groups.   The conservative Catholic groups were....  Oh, yes, there were no conservative Catholic groups.

And, who was one of the main panelists?  Tom Perez, pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage Secretary of Labor AND a member of Holy Redeemer parish.  Supporter of Obamacare.

And who else spoke, well there was Ralph McCloud, the director of the USCCB Catholic Campaign for Human Development.  You remember Mr. McCloud, the treasurer for a pro-abortion Democrat in Texas.  You remember Mr. McCloud, the person who supposedly has verified that all those receiving money from CCHD are not in violation of Catholic teaching.  Yeah, right.

So, Mr. Zimmerman and the good folks over in Hyattsville...this event was just as bad as the actual anniversary of the March on Washington, in which it became a love fest for the Democrat Party.

How did a pro-abortionist/pro-homosexual marriage member of this administration get to speak at a Catholic venue?  Who approved of it?  Did anyone in Hyattsville know about this?

Is this what we support with our weekly donations?  No wonder why Obama and the Democrat Party are not scared of us, they know that we will invite them to our institutions, hire them to work for us and in general, allow ourselves to have our own Fifth Column.


 
 

Catholic Standard Promotes Pro-Abortion Labor Secretary

Once again, either through ignorance, sloppy journalism or because the Catholic Standard (Archdiocese of Washington) is trying to suck up to the Most Merciful's administration, is running a puff piece on Labor Secretary Hinda Solis. The article, by Mark Zimmerman, in glowing terms tells us how much her faith means to her and how it shapes her public service. Maybe they thought it would be good for a little payback for the most recent support of illegal aliens.

So tell me, did Mr. Zimmerman forget to mention that while she was representing CA 32:

• She voted YES on expanding research to more embryonic stem cell lines


• Voted YES on allowing human embryonic stem cell research


• Voted NO on restricting interstate transport of minors to get abortions


• Voted NO on making it a crime to harm a fetus during another crime


• Voted NO on banning partial-birth abortion except to save mother’s life


• Voted NO on forbidding human cloning for reproduction & medical research


• Voted NO on banning Family Planning funding in US aid abroad


• Voted NO on federal crime to harm fetus while committing other crimes


• Voed to expand contraceptive services for low-income women

She received a 100% rating from NARAL and a 0% rating from National Right to Life. She was on the recommended list of Emily's List -- the list that only support pro-abortion female candidates.

I guess that is all in the past.

Once again, the Catholic Standard has let the faithful in this Archdiocese down.

Help Stop the MoCo Transgender Bill

The Montgomery County Council has approved the referendum language that will go on the ballot to stop the MoCo Transgender Bill.

Although the Citizens for a Responsible Government are fighting hard to stop this bill, which will discriminate against those who believe that this is an immoral lifestyle, they are fighting the well funded gay lobby. There is still a court challenge going on but with the grace of God, it will be defeated.

By the way, remember, that one of the people who voted for this bill was the same person that the Catholic Standard, the Maryland Catholic Conference and the pastor of St. John the Baptist lauded.

And, you should note, that there has not even been one word in the Catholic Standard about this? Not one word.

For shame on the Archbishop and Mr. Zimmerman.

Open Letter to the Editor of The (My) Catholic Standard

Dear Mr. Zimmerman:

I received the most recent issue of the Catholic Standard. I was looking forward to the various articles on the Pope and his visit to the Washington DC area.

When I opened the first page of the issue, my attention was immediately caught by the full page advertisement welcoming the Pope by Trinity Collage.

This is the same Trinity College that hosts a Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual and Transgender Club. This is the same Trinity College that welcomed and honored Nancy Pelosi with a Mass. This is the same Trinity College that advertises the fact Nancy Pelosi is a graduate.

It is bad enough that you praised a pro-abortion and pro-homosexual politician upon her death a few months ago, but do you need to accept an advertisement from those who seen to thumb their nose at the Catholic faith?

Do you need to accept an advertisement from this institution welcoming His Holiness?

What are your standards for accepting advertisements? Is this the simple fact that they call themselves Catholic and can pay the rate?

Note: This is a Part 3 (the last) of An Open Letter to the Editor of My Catholic Standard on an article appearing in the March 6, 2008 edition of the paper. The article dealt with a senior's view of the immigration issue.)


War. Any good liberal will somehow throw Iraq into it. And sure enough, the problem of illegal immigration in our country is due to the Iraq War. I don’t seem to remember a flood of illegal Iraqis at our shores. Do you? I guess it does not matter, because we all know, that Mr. Stewart does not deal in rhetoric, accusations, fears and myths.

Climate Change (formerly Global Warming – it sounds better, esp. when you have colder winters instead of warmer ones) is of course the fault of the US. Yes folks, it is our lifestyle that causes illegal immigration. I guess Mr. Stewart does not drive a car, go on vacation, use air conditioning, a computer, eat meat, etc. All of those cause “climate change” and we know, that those who are the most concerned do whatever they can to decrease their “carbon footprint.”

Once we have been given the very cursory reasons for illegal immigration in this country and the debate that goes on, Mr. Steward illustrates the great materials found on the Maryland Catholic Conference (MCC) website. Yes, even though it has been shown that they promote half-truths and one sided facts, that did not stop the author from stating that they provide “critical reference materials for promoting serious discussion regarding the issue.”

If Mr. Stewart really wants to make a difference in the lives of those who come here illegally, he should put his time and efforts in those communities and attempt to work with their governments to change how they treat their citizens. To make the change at the end of the cycle, does not solve the root of the problem, only makes it worse.

Once again, it is good to see that My Catholic Standard continues to maintain a high standard of quality articles.

Open Letter to the Editor of My Catholic Standard (Pt. 2)

(Note: This is a Part 2 of An Open Letter to the Editor of My Catholic Standard on an article appearing in the March 6, 2008 edition of the paper. The article dealt with a senior's view of the immigration issue.)

And yes, let us not forget the throwing in of the Civil Rights movement into the argument. No article is complete without it being mentioned. Please note that I did search for the Nazi comparison, and did not find it. I guess the author will probably be taken to the woodshed for that.

Now, we come to the heart of the matter: Why does illegal immigration occur? According to the author it is because of “globalization, war and climate change increase…” (Al Gore would be proud.)

Yes folks, it is globalization that drive these people from their homes to the US.

Who is at fault for this?

Why of course, it is the trade agreements advocated by the US and not the foreign governments who sign them.

Not the governments who allow sub-standard working conditions to take place in factories. Not the government officials who need to be bribed to look the other way. Not the governments who do not look to take care of their citizens.

Nope, it is the US.

Of course, it was these same people 30 years ago who were hollering and screaming about how we should open up the US marketplace to these countries, so that they can sell their goods here.

Open Letter to the Editor of My Catholic Standard (Pt. 1)

Dear Mr. Zimmerman:

I continue to follow with great interest the continuing pro-illegal immigration articles in My Catholic Standard. Of course, these articles are not chosen simply because they are “newsworthy” but because you are helping to promote the pro-illegal immigration stance of the Archdiocese of Washington DC and the Maryland Catholic Conference (MCC). Your latest effort “A senior looks at the immigration controversy” (March 6, 2008 -- page 36) once again shows that there is almost no angle you will take in promoting this topic.

First, the statement by the Center of Concerns is false. Many of us do not deal with the rhetoric, myths, etc. The ones who seem to not deal in the facts are those who are pro-illegal immigration who attempt to tug at the emotional strings of our hearts and minds. They are the ones, who are the first to call those of us who take a harder line on illegal immigration, racists and bigots. Don’t believe me, then look at the statement of Sr. Mary Ann Walsh of the USCCB.

Second, Mr. Stewart uses the rhetoric of the left when talking about those who support your position on illegal immigration as “thoughtful citizens.” I guess those who believe that those breaking the law should be punished are either ignorant or not very thoughtful. I wonder if he would say the same about those of us who support the prosecution of pedophile priests?

Open Letter to the Editor of My Catholic Standard

Dear Mr. Zimmerman:

In your article, Maryland lawmakers consider measures to redefine marriage, allow gay ‘marriages’ (Feb. 21, 2008 page 7), you don’t mention any of any of the lawmakers, with the exception of one, who are either the sponsors or supporters of these measures.

For example, Sen. Richard S. Madaleno, Jr., has stated to me, in writing:

I am the Senate sponsor of the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act (SB290). As such, I have been working to extend the freedom to marry to same-sex couples. It is my view that the only way to confer all the rights of marriage to unmarried couples is through legislation like SB290.

Since you mention that bill in particular, I am surprised that you do not mention him. Why?

Is it because you don’t want to get any of them upset with My Catholic Standard?
Do you feel that if you name them, they will no longer support issues that the Maryland Catholic Conference (MCC) supports such as abolishing the death penalty or in-state tuition for illegal aliens?

Or is it, as a friend of mine has stated, there is fear in the Archdiocese that a number of Catholic clergy and religious may be “outed?”

Here is a prime opportunity to let Catholics know who is supporting our issues and who is not. Yet, you and the Catholic Standard have chosen to remain silent.
It cannot be because of space, since you have devoted pages to Lobby Night 2008, what would two or three more inches make to the article.

All I ask is why?

Another Open Letter to the Editor of the Catholic Standard

Dear Mr. Zimmerman:

This is the second letter I am sending to you regarding the people who have been profiled in The Catholic Standard in the Feb. 14, 2007 edition.

Although you may have picked up the article on America Ferrera from Catholic News Service (“Emmy-winning actress brings message of hope to Catholic students”), once again, you are giving a very positive spin on someone who supports a presidential candidate who is 100% pro-abortion and 100% pro-gay: Hillary Clinton. If you don't believe me, just do a search on YouTube to find the videos showing her support.

Once again, the Catholic Standard continues to promote those who oppose our pro-life and pro-family beliefs, just like you did with Marilyn Praisner.

Oh, and let’s not forget the front page photo of Gov. Martin O’Malley last year -- another pro-abortion, anti-family politician.

Mr. Zimmerman, do the right thing and in the next issue of the Standard, state that it was wrong to use an article that puts a supporter of a pro-abortion candidate in such a positive light.

An Open Letter to the Editor of the Catholic Standard

Dear Mr. Zimmerman:

I just received my copy of the Catholic Standard (Feb. 14, 2007) and was very disappointed with your article on Marilyn Praisner (page 18).

No where did you mention her 100% support of abortion, which was very publicly attested to in the 2006 advertisement in the Annapolis Capital paper on the 33rd Anniversary of Roe v Wade. No where did you mention, her being honored by the National Organization for Women (NOW)

In addition, there was no mention of the Montgomery Country Transgender Bill which was passed late last year. Here is a bill that has no exemption for religious institutions, which means that Catholic schools, hospitals, etc., maybe held liable for not hiring someone who is transgender.

It is important that as the editor we should not have been praising someone who is 100% pro-abortion and helped to pass the Transgender Bill. It is insulting to me that the Maryland Catholic Conference praises her, as well as, the pastor of St. John the Baptist.

What type of message does that send to the faithful Roman Catholics of this Archdiocese? As someone who is pro-life and pro-family, it is a slap in my face. It is an insult.

What message does it send to the pro-abortion politicians? It sends is that if you are a politician, and pro-abortion, no problem. We will still support you and honor you.

Mr. Zimmerman, do the right thing and in the next issue of the Standard, state that it was wrong to honor and praise a person such as Praisner. Show that this is a paper that completely upholds pro-life values.

Open Letter to the Editor of the Catholic Standard

In this week’s issue (January 10, 2008 page 7), you wrote a story entitled: “From many, one family.”

In it, you stated:

“but also in our own communities, where anti-immigrant sentiments can be seen on talk shows and in legislative proposals.”

The issue is not with immigrants as a whole, the issue is with illegal immigrants. Those who have come to these shores following the process -- no problem. We welcome them. Nevertheless, many of us have told you this, over and over. But you just don’t seem to get it.

Why do you continue to twist the story? Why do you not tell the truth?

I expect this sort of stuff from the Washington Post and the NY Times but not the Catholic Standard.

For shame, Mr. Zimmerman, for shame.

A Time to Fight the Montgomery County Transgender Bill

The American Family Association, in conjunction with other groups, is attempting to fight the Montgomery Council Transgender Bill by placing it on the ballot.

According to the email I received:

A referendum which will give the people of the County the chance to vote on the issue next November. We would have to collect over 20,000 signatures to get the issue on the ballot. http://www.petitiononline.com/decency/petition.html. Please forward the on-line petition link and tell your friends about this issue. If everyone on our current email subscription list signs the petitions and get 20 friends to also sign, we have enough. Make sure you tell folks to check “make email address available to author” so that we can contact them with the official referendum signature information.

Please take a moment and share this with your family and friends. It can be stopped but only if you do not remain silent.

Again, the Catholic Standard makes no mention of the Transgender Bill by the Montgomery County Council in the Nov. 15, 2007 issue. Since they go to press early in the week, they would not have had time to publish an article on the passing of the bill but for crying out loud, they could have put something in the paper.

All I can say is "SHAME" on the Catholic Standard and on the editor, Mark Zimmerman.

I wonder how much longer they will remain silent on the issue.
