House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) vowed today that she will join with the Obama administration in standing up against the Catholic Church in defending a new regulation that will require Catholic individuals to buy, and Catholic institutions to provide, health insurance plans that cover sterilizations and artificial contraceptives, including those that induce abortions.

In Washington DC, an old priest lay dying in the hospital.
For years he had faithfully served the people of the nation's capital. He motioned for his nurse to come near.
"Yes, Father?" said the nurse.
"I would really like to see Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi before I die", whispered the priest. "I'll see what I can do, Father", replied the nurse.
The nurse sent the request to The House and Senate waited for a response. Soon the word arrived; Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi would be delighted to visit the priest.
As they went to the hospital, Reid commented to Pelosi, "I don't know why the old priest wants to see us, but it will certainly help our images and might even get me re-elected." Pelosi agreed that it was a good thing.
When they arrived at the priest's room, the priest took Reid's hand in his right hand and Pelosi's hand in his left. There was silence and a look of serenity on the old priest's face.
Finally Nancy Pelosi spoke. "Father, of all the people you could have chosen, why did you choose us to be with you as you near the end?"
The old priest slowly replied, "I have always tried to pattern my life after Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ."
"Amen", said Reid.
"Amen", said Pelosi.
The old priest continued, "Jesus died between two lying thieves; I would like to do the same."

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a self-professed devout Catholic, will receive an award from abortion giant Planned Parenthood at a reception Thursday evening. The award will be given in recognition of her efforts in passing the federal health care legislation, and, in particular, for her help in ensuring that the Stupak abortion funding ban was not inserted in the bill.
A spokesperson for Planned Parenthood confirmed with LifeSiteNews.com that Pelosi would be receiving the Champion for Women's Health award, which recognizes "efforts to support women and their reproductive health."
Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), and Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) will also receive the award.
So, I am asking Archbishop Wuerl publicly: What else does she need to do to be told by you or another one of our bishops, "You cannot receive Holy Communion in a Catholic Church."

A Little Monday Humor...Enjoy!
Father O'Malley rose from his bed. It was a fine spring day in his new Washington DC parish. He walked to the window of his bedroom to get a deep breath of air and to see the beautiful day outside. He then noticed there was a jackass lying dead in the middle of his front lawn.
He promptly called the US House of Representatives for assistance.
The conversation went like this: "Good morning. This is speaker Pelosi.
How might I help you?"
"And the top of the day te yerself. This is Father O'Malley at St.Brigid's. There's a jackass lying dead in me front lawn. Would ye be so kind as to send a couple o' yer lads to take care of the matter?"
Speaker Pelosi, considering herself to be quite a wit, replied with a smirk,"Well now Father, it was always my impression that you people took care of last rites!"
There was dead silence on the line for a long moment.
Father O'Malley then replied: "Aye, that's certainly true, but we are also obliged to first notify the next of kin."
He promptly called the US House of Representatives for assistance.

URGENT: HELP STOP THE HEALTH CARE TRAIN WRECK DEBACLE!

If you are Catholic and believe that abortion is immoral, that the government should not fund abortions and that Catholics in the health care field should not be forced to either quit their jobs or help commit murder, then you need to help stop the health care bill.

Update (7:30am): Congratulations to the supporters of True Marriage in Maine. You defeated the gay marriage proposal, even though you were outspent almost 2 to 1. Maybe that is why homosexuals are fighting so hard not to put it to a vote in DC. Maybe they know that they cannot win by the ballot box.

Another Parish Promotes a Pro-Abortion, Pro-Gay Politician
The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) as it currently stands is ineffective and in many instances, supports organizations which do not necessarily support Catholic teaching. It must be shut down and reorganized. Please boycott the CCHD Collection on Sunday, Nov. 23rd. Read more here.

A good friend of mine alerted me to the fact that a local Catholic parish/publication has seen fit to promote a pro-abortion, pro-gay politician: Senator Nancy Pelosi.
In the October 2008 issue of VOCE ITALIANA, which bills itself as “An Italian American Gazette of the Greater Washington DC Area,” featured two cover stories on Senator Pelosi. The first in Italian dealing with her being presented with an award by the Italian government and the second, an interview by a member of the VOCE ITALIANA editorial board.
My friend points out in his letter to the Editor of VOCE ITALIANA, (which he shared with me), that if this was written by a secular Italian or Italian-American organization, he would not have cared one way or the other.
However, VOCE ITALIANA is published by Holy Rosary Church/Casa Italiana, located in downtown DC. To him, this is an ‘infamia” – an infamy – that a Catholic publication is once again highlighting a politician who is Catholic only in name only.
Now, Holy Rosary is not run by some left of center nuns or Georgetown Jesuits. It is run by the Missionaries of St. Charles, commonly known as the Scalabrinians (named after their founder, Bishop Scalabrini). These are a pretty solid group of priests and brothers, according to my friend, which makes it even more puzzling to him.
He is still waiting for a reply to his letter to Fr. L. Tomasi, C.S. (Pastor of Holy Rosary) and Ms. Gemma Puglisi.

Archbishop Wuerl Responds to Sen. Pelosi (Update)
Statement by Archbishop Wuerl to Sen. Nancy Pelosi from the News Release of the Archdiocese of Washington DC yesterday (Aug. 25, 2008):
We respect the right of elected officials such as Speaker Pelosi to address matters of public policy that are before them, but the interpretation of Catholic faith has rightfully been entrusted to the Catholic bishops. Given this responsibility to teach, it is important to make this correction for the record.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church is clear: the current teaching of the Catholic Church on human life and abortion is the same teaching as it was 2,000 years ago. The Catechism reads:
“Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception…Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law.” (Catechism, 2270-2271)
The Catechism goes on to quote the Didache, a treatise that dates to the first century: “’You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish.’”
From the beginning, the Catholic Church has respected the dignity of all human life from the moment of conception to natural death.
I congratulate the Archbishop on this, setting the record straight and clear.
Now, there is this big matter of her receiving Communion we should discuss...
