Pope Francis Invited to Address Joint Session of Congress

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), as the constitutional officer of Congress, made the formal invitation on behalf of House and Senate leaders, according to House and Senate aides. The House speaker is the officer who formally invites the president each year to give a State of the Union address. All joint sessions of Congress occur in the House Chamber because it is the larger of the two chambers.

Aides to Boehner said he sent the invitation Thursday to officials in Vatican City. If Francis accepts the invitation, he would be the first pontiff to ever address American lawmakers from the U.S. Capitol, according to Boehner aides.

Stupid Biden Quotes

Biden chuckled, expressed his doubts and urged as he has in the past for home defenders to arm themselves with shotguns. Biden said he's told his wife, Jill, to "fire two blasts outside" from one of the family's double-barrel shotguns should there be any signs of trouble. (As a practical matter, Biden's Secret Service detail would likely be on top of the situation.) Overall, the moment was indicative of the role Biden has been playing since he White House began selling its gun violence reduction package to the public. Biden can often be found talking up the guns he owns and his personal ties to the Second Amendment.

Maryland pregnancy care center wins decision against ‘NARAL-driven attacks’

MONTGOMERY, MD, March 10, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Maryland-based pregnancy care center has won its lawsuit against a county law that requires it to post a notice stating it does not have doctors on staff. The law, which exempts abortion clinics from the same requirement, was permanently blocked by the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.

Good Friday Meditions at St. Matthew's Cathedral may cause you to suffer even more...

A reader (and you know who you are) let me know that the priest leading the 12noon meditations will be Rev. J. Clete Kiley.  

Who is Fr. Kiley?

Fr. Kiley is a Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Policy Research & Catholic Studies at The Catholic University of America.  It is a community of scholars and researchers engaged in the analysis of public policy issues related to Catholic social thought.  The work of the Institute serves and speaks to the university, the Church, the country, and the disciplines of its fellows.

Now, as you can tell, that is not the issue.  Fr. Kiley is also the Director of Immigration Policy for UNITE HERE, as well as, a Trustee of their Health Plan.  

What is UNITE HERE?  According to their website:

UNITE HERE represents workers throughout the U.S. and Canada who work in the hotel, gaming, food service, manufacturing, textile, distribution, laundry, and airport industries.

UNITE HERE boasts a diverse membership, comprising workers from many immigrant communities as well as high percentages of African-American, Latino, and Asian-American workers. The majority of UNITE HERE members are women.

Through organizing, UNITE HERE members have made apparel jobs in the South, hotel housekeeping jobs in cities across North America, and hundreds of thousands of other traditionally low-wage jobs into good, family-sustaining, middle class jobs.


So there are a couple of things here which bother me...

1.  As a Trustee of the Health Plan, what has he done to remove abortion and birth control services, which are contrary to Catholic teaching?    Or is he really cooperating with evil.

2.  UNITE HERE also has a program entitled Sleep with the Right People, a pro-gay effort in the hospitality industry.  Does this mean that Fr. Kiley is supportive of gay marriage and the gay lifestyle?  In reality, most unions are supportive of gay marriage.  Is he once again knowingly cooperating with evil?

3.  Again, we have a priest who is willing to support illegal immigration (illegal aliens), which is unjust to the millions who have come here legally and to the sovereignty of the US borders.

Once again, we bring you another stupid quote from the highest elected "Catholyc" in the United States: Vice President Joe Biden. I tell you, he is the gift that keeps on giving.

Vice President Biden moving in close to sell the Affordable Care Act to a young woman outside Butterfield's Pancake House in Scottsdale," says the local reporter.

 "We gotta make sure everybody young person signs up for health care. It's affordable. You can get subsidies to do it. And it's in your interest. And if you don't even want to do it for yourself. do it for your parents, give 'em peace of mind."

The local reporter though took the time to find out a little bit about the woman the vice president pitched. "Turns out that woman is not even a U.S. resident. She's visiting from Canada," says the reporter.

Holy Cross Hospital Supporting Gay Marriage?

Well, yes.

Holy Cross Hospital (Silver Spring) is part of Trinity Health, a large conglomeration of Catholic hospitals (over 20) across the US.  Trinity Health is based out of Livonia, Michigan.

On January 15th, Trinity Health announced a new benefit.  According to the document distributed to all staff:

To fullfill our Mission to be a transforming healing presence within our communities, CHE Trinity Health continually reviews its benefit programs to ensure that we are meeting changing needs in the workplace.

With Plus One, benefits-eligible colleagues may cover their spouse or a non-blood-relative eligible adult living in their household with whom the colleague has a financial interdependence, as well as, eligible dependents.

In other words, Holy Cross Hospital, as part of Trinity Health, will now recognize gay marriage via their benefits package.
