Open Letter to the Local DC Media

Open Letter to ABC, CBS, NBC, WaPo, WTOP, WMAL, et al.

I have a question for all of you: Why wasn't the story listed below one of your lead stories yesterday?

When Dan Stallings (a Catholic Deacon) was arrested, this made all of the major media outlets in the DC area. In fact, television crews were sent to his parish and harrassed parents and students as they were getting out of the local elementary school.

So, why is this not one of your top stories?

We all know the reason: anti-Catholic bias. Anything to bring down an organization that stands for faith and morals and does not rely on polling to dictate how it should think and act.

++++

From AP:

Montgomery County police have charged a former minister at a Gaithersburg church with sexually abusing a female youth choir member.

Police say 47-year-old Timothy Chun-Chock Mann worked at the First Baptist Church on West Diamond Avenue when the alleged abuse began in 1992 and continued until 1996.

Police have accused Mann of abusing the youth choir member mostly in his church office. The choir member was 14 when the alleged abuse began.

Mann now lives in Hoover, Alabama, and works as a choir director in Birmingham. He has been charged with third-degree sex offense and child abuse.

Mann turned himself in to Montgomery County police March 20 and was released on $100,000 bail.

this is the lowest demoninator: "well, look what he did".
As a Catholic, let's not start blaring the horns of "bias" and victimhood, lets clean our houses above all repute.

I think that you have missed the point of the blog posting.

The point is that the media, when one of our clergy commits a terrible act such as this, are all over us "like white on rice." They make it seem that no one else does it.

Yes, I agree we need to keep our house clean but i have some serious problems with the way the media handles this.

Tell me, when was the last time there was a huge series on public school teachers who commit such acts, even though the rate is way higher than Catholic clergy.

This man currently lives in AL. How could local DC media go to his house in AL?

Im all about faith and morals as a practicing Christian, but I dont think this should be mainly used as an excuse to say heres a protestant look at what is going on in their leadership. What we should do is each look at what is going on in our hearts and plead our case to a most gracious and forgiving God. I dont think Catholics are any better or worse as far as these kinds of incidents go. it is a human and spiritual issue, people of all creeds and backgrounds can fall to these kinds of temptations and sins. As a part of the Congregation in Alabama I knew Tim and I never suspected anything of this nature.
