“People are very passionate about this issue,” said Derek McCoy, executive director of the Maryland Marriage Alliance. “We are working hard to win this.”McCoy told CNA on April 3 that the alliance has worked “feverishly” over the past few weeks to develop petition drives and train people to run them.
The alliance is leading a referendum campaign, joining with the Maryland Catholic Conference, the Maryland Family Alliance and other national and local groups of different political and religious backgrounds to defend the dignity of marriage.

Someone I know was at DeMatha HS last Sat morning collecting petition signatures - got "about" 10 (less) from approx. 100 attendees. A priest gave them several brochures entitled "Same Sex Marriage" w/picture of two male wedding bands. Supposedly it is anti-same sex marriage, but when put it on a table at another event that day, people were confused by brochure because of title about which side we were on--so removed it. Other literature, bumper stickers etc. all said "Protect Marriage".
