USCCB: Throwing Money at Those Who Oppose Us

Our colleague over at Restore DC Catholicism has reported that the USCCB is throwing another $800K towards illegal aliens.  Some will be going to their front group, but other funds will be going to an organization which opposes the Catholic Church on a number of issues.  

Why are we doing this?  Why don't we just throw the money donated by the faithful out the window.  At least it may go to someone who can use it.
 

Some Odds and Ends

I did not get a chance to give you my weekly update of the Catholic Standard. This past weekend was beautiful and I decided to enjoy the outdoors. So, I have been a little remiss on my postings.

There are many good stories in the Catholic Standard but I guess there was not enough space for any mention of how the Archbishop honored John Sweeney. You know, the former head of the AFL-CIO who has spent millions upon millions of dollars electing pro-abortion, pro-gay politicians.

However, there are a number of things which we need to update.

First, Bob Stewart is no longer heading up VOTF at Holy Trinity. That honor goes to Jim Listori. Oh, and did you miss the monthly meeting on Sept. 16th. I know I did.

If you missed the VOTF meeting at Holy Trinity in September, no need to worry. You can catch the dissenters at St. Rose of Lima on October 1st.

Our friends over at Restore DC Catholocism have a new blog. The link on the side has been updated. I look forward to the postings.

Fr. Greg, who was stationed at St. Andrew's in Silver Spring, is now the Chaplain at the George Washington University Newman Center. I enjoy his blog postings and have updated the link to his new blog site. Keep up the good work.

Finally, I have added Domine, da mihi hanc aquam! to our blog roll. Fr. Phillip Neri Powell, O.P. has an excellent blog. In fact, I highlighted his story about his experience with the Occult before he became a priest.

Cardinal McCarrick Celebrates 50 Years as a Priest

It has been a rather busy week here at he blog. A couple of dissenters have been here and I expect I will see more of them. As I said in a much earlier posting: "All Are Welcome, including dissenters."

I received my weekly copy of My Catholic Standard today. As expected, the focus of the edition is on Cardinal McCarrick and his celebration of his 50th Anniversary as a priest. There will be a Mass and reception this weekend at the Shrine and some of you may attend to wish him the best.

Like many of you, I had high hopes when he came to this Archdiocese. I read his weekly columns in the Standard, looked at his weekly calendar, and at the time thought he did a good job. I even had the opportunity, as some of you probably have, to do the "meet and greet" with him at a Church functions.

However, as I read through the Standard's coverage of him, I noticed that they seemed to leave out a couple of things:

1. His comments on global warming or should I now say "climate change.
   
2. His view that civil unions are okay.
   
3. His view (like Archbishop Wuerl) on communion and pro-abortion politicians.


4. His not so complete discussion at the 2004 USCCB Denver meeting of the letter from then Cardinal Ratzinger’s (now Pope Benedict XVI) of Cannon Law 915.
