The St. Rose of Lima Council (#14297) in Gaithersburg, MD led the coordination of councils from five (5) states to collect 10,000 toothbrushes for children in the Republic of Cameroon. A member of the St. Martin de Porres Council (#9386 Washington DC) personally delivered them to Cameroon.
Congratulations on a job well done. Another example of pro-life work in action.

VOTF at St. Rose of Lima on May 11th
Hey folks, it looks like those wild and crazy VOTF "reformers" will be meeting at St. Rose of Lima on May 11th. And, you will never guess who will be in a "virtual attendance?" They will view a DVD of Bishop Geoffrey Robinson, a retired auxiliary of the Sydney, Australia archdiocese.
Those who are in dissent with the Roman Catholic Church, just love this man. They are just gushing with praise, so much so, that mops and buckets need to be brought in. Remember that the Australian bishops had issued a public statement warning of the doctrinal difficulties with his book in 2008.
Again, why is VOTF, a dissenting organizaton meeting on Church property? This is like the old saying of letting the fox in the hen house.
Hyattsville? Anyone there paying attention?

St. Rose of Lima -- How much more dissent?
Although it may seem very innocent, once again St. Rose of Lima is sponsoring a meeting of the dissenting group: Voice of The Faithful. (How many times must this continue to take place? Does no one in Hyattsville have the fortitude to stop this?)
Now, this is not simply a regular meeting in which they encourage women priests, married priests, etc. but this one is a a meeting to make suggestions which will then be put forward to the American Catholic Council meeting in 2011.
The problem is that the American Catholic Council, like VOTF stands in opposition to the Catholic Church. It allies itself with groups such as Call to Action and CORPUS. (I have written about these before.)
The Archbishop of Detroit has issued a strong statement regarding this meeting in 2011:
The Archdiocese of Detroit has been contacted by concerned members of the faithful about a movement called the American Catholic Council. Self-described as "bringing together a network of individuals, organizations, and communities to consider the state and future of our Church," they have planned a national gathering in Detroit for the weekend of Pentecost 2011. The American Catholic Council movement and its national gathering are not conducted under the auspices of the Detroit archdiocese, the universal Roman Catholic Church, or any entity or organization affiliated with the archdiocese or the universal Roman Catholic Church.
Although their stated purpose is to "respond to the Spirit of Vatican II by summoning the Baptized together to demonstrate our re-commitment and the documents issued by the American Catholic Council offer some valid aspirations for the Church, in fact, the goals proposed are largely in opposition to the teachings of the Second Vatican Council and the Holy Spirit, which inspired the Council.
The archdiocese wishes to commend and embrace all true efforts at Church renewal - the American Church Council's agenda is not such an effort. Some of the advertised speakers and groups organizing the effort espouse positions which are clearly contrary to Catholic faith, leading to alienation and estrangement from the Church. The Archdiocese of Detroit cautions any Catholic against participating in the American Catholic Council local listening sessions and national gathering in June 2011. Catholic parishes, schools, and institutions are not to host any meetings, gatherings, or "listening sessions" associated with the planning of the June 2011 American Catholic Council. Priests, deacons, and ecclesial lay ministers will want to avoid lending support to such a misguided effort. On behalf of the archdiocese, Archbishop Vigneron has asked the organizers to cancel their plans for this national gathering that distorts the true Spirit of Vatican II. He asks us all to pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit so that we may embrace authentic development of faith and morals, and shun efforts which threaten unity.

Repost: Non-Catholic "Spiritualization" and St. Rose of Lima
Update: Last week I commented upon the Shalem Institute's series of presentations at St. Rose of Lima. It was a small blurb I picked up from the parish bulletin during one of my visits. This week, they have made a point of putting it full on the front cover.
To the person (Anon) who asked me about getting Dr. Timoney's or Msgr. D's side of the story, I will publish any note they may send me. I will publish it as is -- no alterations or changes. To my knowledge they have not adequately explained why they are doing this and why they are allowing Episcopalian priests (male and female), a nun who is not only practices but teaches Zen Buddhism, Presbyterians and Quakers to speak to Catholics about spirituality in a Catholic facility. If you want to do it, do it off site.
Also, I am not certain how what I have posted is gossip. This event was posted in the parish bulletin, was it not? The information on the speakers is accurate and can be found on the Shalem's Institute website. So what is gossip? That I offered my opinion? I think you may be attempting to sow the seeds of discord in Catholic unity.
Finally, I say to Anon, if I has written privately to them, do you really think that they would listen? I doubt it very much.

- Ann Dean: Minister in the ecumenical community of the Church of the Saviour since 1994 and is a member of the Dayspring Retreat Mission Group
- Patience Robbins: I don't have much information on her, but she will lead talk at the Hyattsville Mennonite Church about on "Earth Mystic" Julia Butterfly Hill - an American activist and environmentalist best known for living in a 180-foot roughly 1500-year-old California Redwood for 738 days.
- Leah Rampy: Ordained Elder and Deacon at the Lewinsville Presbyterian Church.
- Bill Dietrich: Quaker
- Liz Ward: Spiritual director at Virginia Theological Seminary (Episcopal Church) and an elected member of the Commission on Ministry and a discernment facilitator for the Diocese of Virginia.
So, I have some questions:
- Why is the Archdiocese spending $$ on presentations by non-Catholics on spirituality, esp. with what I call a questionable Catholic nun. I know that there is a fee for this, but there are always behind the scenes expenses.
- Why is this being done at a Catholic Church.
- Are their no Catholics who can do a presentation like this, using Catholic teachings?
- Why does Dr. Susan Timoney still have this position with the Archdiocese, when she helps to support and present things which are not in the Roman Catholic tradition?

Update to the June 1st Blog Post
Earlier this week I told you that Msgr. Paul Dudziak of St. Rose of Lima Church in Gaithersburg, MD told the congregation during his homily that by not recycling, you are creating your own BP oil spill.
Well, our colleagues at Restore DC Catholicism were kind enough to post the audio of this. Go over there and listen.
I wonder if the folks over in Hyattsville agree with this statement? Maybe it is time for the Archdiocese to really take a close look at what is going on over there. My sources tell me that VOTF is still meeting there.

Environmentalism Running Amok in the Archdiocese?
As many of us watch BP unable to stop the oil leak and The Most Merciful in way over his head, I received an item from a reader. Now, I am not certain if she is trying to tell me something or just to let me know of the general wackyness that comes out of St. Rose.
She sent me an audio sermon of Fr. Paul for Pentacost Sunday. At the very start, he says "that every house that does not recycle is its' own BP oil spill."
Wow! Can you believe this? I certainly do not expect to hear this at Mass.
I wonder if he will say that every family which supports the gay lifestyle is like its' own Castro St or Folsom Street Fair? Now that I would like to hear.

New Ways Ministry and the Archdiocese of Washington
By now, many of you have heard that the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops has stated that New Ways Ministry cannot cannot legitimately speak for Catholics. It has not been approved by the Archdiocese of Washington since 1984. You can read the entire release here.
Now, if you poke around there site just a bit, you will find a list of "gay friendly" parishes. For the Archdiocese of Washington, four are listed:

- St. Aloyisius
- Holy Trinity
- St. Rose of Lima
According to the New Ways Ministry, these are listed as "gay friendly" because they are:
welcoming to lesbian and gay Catholics as members and active parishioners.
So I guess I would like to know how they have come to be listed as such.
Are these parishes "welcoming" because they accept those who are living in homosexual relationships as okay and normal?
Are these parishes welcoming because they support same sex marriages and a change in the teachings of the Catholic Church?
Is it because they welcome those who are homosexual but continue to encourage them to be celibate?
Or is it simply that they simply look the other way?

Some Odds and Ends
I did not get a chance to give you my weekly update of the Catholic Standard. This past weekend was beautiful and I decided to enjoy the outdoors. So, I have been a little remiss on my postings.
There are many good stories in the Catholic Standard but I guess there was not enough space for any mention of how the Archbishop honored John Sweeney. You know, the former head of the AFL-CIO who has spent millions upon millions of dollars electing pro-abortion, pro-gay politicians.
However, there are a number of things which we need to update.
First, Bob Stewart is no longer heading up VOTF at Holy Trinity. That honor goes to Jim Listori. Oh, and did you miss the monthly meeting on Sept. 16th. I know I did.
If you missed the VOTF meeting at Holy Trinity in September, no need to worry. You can catch the dissenters at St. Rose of Lima on October 1st.
Our friends over at Restore DC Catholocism have a new blog. The link on the side has been updated. I look forward to the postings.
Fr. Greg, who was stationed at St. Andrew's in Silver Spring, is now the Chaplain at the George Washington University Newman Center. I enjoy his blog postings and have updated the link to his new blog site. Keep up the good work.
Finally, I have added Domine, da mihi hanc aquam! to our blog roll. Fr. Phillip Neri Powell, O.P. has an excellent blog. In fact, I highlighted his story about his experience with the Occult before he became a priest.

Lesbian Friendly Catholic Churches in Washington DC?
Recently, I stumbled across a website entitled: Conference for Catholic Lesbians, Inc.
As I browsed their website, I came across a section entitled: Welcoming Places for LGBT Catholics. When I clicked on Gay and Lesbian Friendly parishes, it provided a list for Maryland and Washington DC. Here is the list:
- Dahlgren Chapel of Georgetown University (DC)
- St. Aloysius (DC)
- Holy Trinity (DC)
- St. Matthew Cathedral (DC)
- St. Rose of Lima (Gaithersburg)
First, the Conference of Catholic Lesbians is part of the network of dissident groups, such as Voice of the Faithful, Call to Action, etc.
Now, in reviewing their website, this organization is pushing for lesbians to live in a homosexual lifestyle, while maintaining that they are Catholics in good standing. This is of course in total opposition to the beliefs of the Church.
In looking at the various parishes/churches above, I would believe that Holy Trinity and at the Dahlgren Chapel of Georgetown University, would easily look the other way (and even possibly encourage) gays and lesbians to live a life that is totally opposed to the Church, while considering themselves faithful Catholics.
St. Rose of Lima is a parish that I have discussed previously on this blog. However, if you have noticed, their weekly bulletin does not have much on events dealing with homosexuals. Maybe it is because of the attention they have received via this blog. Maybe it is something else. But it is hidden under the radar.
St. Matthew's is a different matter, or maybe I am simply unaware. I know that St. Matthew's for many, many years has had outreach program (Courage) and now has Always Our Children. These are in line with Church teachings. However, maybe there is something that I am not aware of.

Archbishop Wuerl - Ban VOTF Now!
The recent attempt by two homosexual legislators and VOTF member Tom Gallagher to violate the First Amendment in their attempt to change how the Catholic Church is run in Connecticut, have (for now) given up. If they had been successful, you know that it would have been the start of many such lawsuits.
I am urging Archbishop Wuerl to ban VOTF permanently from every Roman Catholic facility in the Archdiocese of Washington DC.
We know that VOTF met at St. Rose of Lima in Gaithersburg (don't know if they still meet there, since not all meetings appear on the weekly calendar).
They still meet at Holy Trinity in Georgetown and have a page on their website, advertising their monthly meetings. (What else do you expect from them.)

If the pastors and priests of those parishes and facilities do not abide by your decision, then ask them to leave the Archdiocese immediately. You have the authority to do so.

I am urging Archbishop Wuerl to ban VOTF permanently from every Roman Catholic facility in the Archdiocese of Washington DC.
We know that VOTF met at St. Rose of Lima in Gaithersburg (don't know if they still meet there, since not all meetings appear on the weekly calendar).
They still meet at Holy Trinity in Georgetown and have a page on their website, advertising their monthly meetings. (What else do you expect from them.)
Archbishop Wuerl, it is time to take a stand. Ban VOTF now. You have the authority to do so.

St. Rose of Lima. Furniture and Mont. Co. Government
The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) as it currently stands is ineffective and in many instances, supports organizations which do not necessarily support Catholic teaching. It must be shut down and reorganized. Please boycott the CCHD Collection on Sunday, Nov. 23rd. Read more here.

Now, most of you probably think that I really "hate" the folks over at St. Rose of Lima. Nope. Nothing of the sort. I do have a problem with VOTF and other stuff that goes one. From my perspective, the dissenters begin to slowly influence other groups to the point that what is in direct opposition to the Church becomes the norm.
However, my thoughts today are from an article in last week's Montgomery County Gazette (Nov. 2, 2008 Page A-41) regarding the closing of the Furniture Program at St. Rose. According to the article, it assisted the needy furnish their homes for over 20 years. A very good thing.
However, there was one thing that stuck in my mind over and over. The fact that Montgomery Country social services representatives have long depended on them for assistance.
Now, I think that it is ironic that Montgomery County which has no problem spending millions of dollars to help illegal aliens, spends over a billion dollars on an education system that may not really be working (unless you believe the test scores, which I don't), pushes through (in a dictatorial manner) a transgender bill, and yet, has to rely on others to do something like this.
Yet, when our citizens call upon government to help our Catholic schools even to subsidize secular textbooks, we are told that it is our choice and that there is no money for you.
Maybe, many of our Catholic charities should shut down, even for a few weeks, to remind our local and state officials they need us. And if we do not get some of the things we want, then they are going to have to do so much more, with so much less.
It may seem to be un-Christian but considering how Catholics and other clear thinking Christians have been treated over the years, maybe it is time to start playing a little hardball.

As some of you may remember, I have written a couple of times about St. Rose of Lima and the issue of dissidents in that parish. There is an active VOTF group that regulary meets there and one of the Board Members of Rent-a-Priest, was active at there too.
A few weeks ago, I went over to the Rent-a-Priest Bard of Director page and lo-and-behold, the name of Sally Dowling (who had been there for ages) was gone. However, the date of the Board has not change. It still shows as if it is from 2002. (This was before I started to keep images of websites.)
Recently, I went on the St. Rose of Lima site and what did you think I saw: Sally Dowling. She is giving a talk at the parish, as part of their Women's Spirituality Series, and is identified as a Pastoral Counselor and Spiritual Director.
Now, I find it very co-incidental that her name was suddenly removed from the Rent-a-Priest Board and she is now giving a talk on spirituality? Is she still a member of Rent-a-Priest? Does she continue to espouse the views of Rent-a-Priest?
I don't know the answer to those questions but to me, given he past history of St. Rose of Lima, it makes me really wonder what is going on over there.
Is there anyone in Hyattsville paying attention?

VOTF - Dissent is Still Going Strong at St. Rose of Lima
A number of months ago, I put forth a series of postings on VOTF in the Archdiocese of Washington DC. Well, VOTF seemed to disappear for a bit, except for the VOTF Chapter at Holy Trinity in DC.

It is amazing when the Archbishop continues to ask those of us who are faithful to the teachings of the Church, that we have to tolerate this sort of stuff happening.

VOTF at St. Rose of Lima in Gaithersburg
You hear much about being faithful to the teachings of the Church, and yet, right here in the Archdiocese of Washington DC, the Voice of the Faithful (VOTF) is given a warm reception at St. Rose of Lima in Gaithersburg.
On April 22, 2008 a presentation was held at the St. Joseph Room (talk about adding insult to injury) by VOTF.
(This must be Dissent Week at St. Rose, since this is the second such event there. I guess with the Pope gone, the media shilling for Obama once again, pastors and their ministry leaders are going back to undermining the Church.)
You remember St. Rose from an earlier posting. One of their parishioner's is on the Board of Directors of Rent-a-Priest. Another dissident group.
What is Msgr. Dudzaik (the pastor) thinking? Maybe he isn't.
Here is he allowing a group that supports homosexuality, abortion, contraception, female priests and other dissident principles.
The VOTF deceives faithful Catholics into believing it is a legitimate Catholic organization with slogans such as "support those who have been abused" and "support priests of integrity". However, the group is tied to dissident, radical, anti-Vatican groups, such as Call to Action and We are Church, which strongly reject Catholic moral principles.
Archbishop Wuerl needs to publicly admonish Msgr. Dudzaik and ban VOTF from any Catholic parish.
No wonder why the Church is in the state that it is in. Those whom are placed in authority are doing whatever they can to undermine it.

What is Msgr. Dudzaik thinking?
I guess I missed it.
Yep, I missed the showing at St. Rose of Lima in Gaithersburg of For the Bible Tells Me So on Monday, April 21, 2008.
Yes, this pro-homosexual film, is aimed that showing those who believe that homosexuality is wrong, that it is an acceptable lifestyle and is acceptable to God.
Yes, there is even an interview with the Rev. Gene Robinson. Yes, the one and only Gene Robinson -- the first gay bishop of the Episcopalian Church. The ordination of which is splitting the Episcopalian Church.
Now, can someone tell me why this is being shown in a Catholic Church? If we believe that that particular lifestyle is wrong, then why are they showing a film that says that this is an acceptable lifestyle? If this is a ministry that they is important (and I think that it is), then why are they not have a Courage Chapter?
The Archbishop needs to admonish Msgr. Dudzaik for this sort of stuff. But he won't.

Rent A Priest and St. Rose of Lima
Recently, I was doing some reading and came across a website called “Rent-A-Priest.” (I kid you not.) Their basic issue “schtick” is that the Church should move to allow married priests.
The site lists information about former Catholic priests (married) who will do various services (marriages, baptisms, etc.) for you, as they like to call it, in the “Roman Catholic tradition.” Now, there are a number of issues I have with this group, especially with how they present themselves – it is very easy for someone to get fooled by this group -- but that is for another time.
What I found really amazing is that one of the members of the Board of Directors of Rent A Priest (Sandy Dowling) is an active member of St. Rose of Lima Parish (Gaithersburg, MD).
Now, we all know that Rent A Priest is not faithful to the Church but if this is true, and I have no reason to suspect otherwise since the site is updated on a regular basis, what the heck is she doing leading one of the “small faith communities?” What message is she spreading? What message does it send to those of us who try to remain faithful to the message of the Church?
