How is the Annual Appeal doing?

Well, as you can see, they are not quite halfway to the goal of 12 million.

 

 

As a reminder, here is what took place on a couple of previous appeals:

  The financial goal for the 2021 Annual Appeal was $11.9 million.  The amount raised was $10.3 million from just over 20,000.

 The 2020 Annual Appeal brought in $10.4 million from over 33,000 donors.  

 Will they be able to reach their goal?  

Will the pool from which they receive donations drop or increase?

Only time will tell, but once again, I have refused to donate.

 

 

Cryptocurrency is now accepted!

 Did you know that the Annual Catholic Services Appeal (formerly the Cardinal's Appeal), is now accepting cryptocurrency.  Yep, here is what they posted on their website...

The Name May Change but it is the same old...

 

This year, the "Cardinal's Appeal" is no more.

Yep, it has a new name: Annual Catholic Services Appeal.  

Now, one of the interesting things to note was that last week they had posted both the amount currently donated and the number of families/individuals who had donated.  This week, it is gone.

I would urge you not to give.  If you wish to give, give directly to your parish or an order serving the parish.

We have a "woke" Cardinal and the only way that he will get the message -- if he ever does -- is to withhold funding.

 

 

 

 

Hyattsville is still looking for the Money People

So here we are at the end of August, and the fundraising jobs are still open.  

If you have the ability to smile at faithful Catholics and ask for five and six figure donations, while certain priests within this diocese do not live up to their vows, an Archbishop who will do whatever he can to avoid any scandal, and at the same time, water down the faith, then one of these jobs are for you.

They have been open since June.

Can You Raise $$$? The Archdiocese Needs You ASAP! (Follow-up)

Well folks, some of you may remember my last posting on July 11th.  It seems that they are still looking to fill some critical fundraising positions.  (See images below.)  Note that this has been going on since June.  

Now, I know that these things can take time, but what makes it unusual is that all of these fundraising positions need to be filled at the same time.  Makes you wonder what went on behind closed doors.

In addition, they have added another position that they need to fill: Development Services Manager.

According to the job description:   

Reporting to the Executive Director of Development and working closely with the Director of Donor Relations and Gift Planning, Director of the Annual Appeal, Director of Stewardship and the Donor Relations Officers, the Development Services Manager coordinates and plans the administrative and special event functions of the Office of Development. 

It seems that you have one BIG BOSS, and at least four or more other bosses.  At least five bosses!  Talk about matrix management.  

Again, these jobs pay well, as the funds come from the 14% taken out of each and every Sunday collection.

Remember, you help to keep those who cannot maintain their vows and those who protect them, aka Msgr. Rossi and Archbishop Gregory, with a roof over their heads and three meals a day.

Archdiocese Appeal - It Does Not Look Good!

As I had reported earlier, donations are down in the Archdiocese of Washington.

As you may (or may not) recall that the 2019 Appeal has a goal of raising $14.3 million.  

To date, the Campaign (as Melvin like to call it) has received pledges of $8.89 million from 23,465 donors.   

What does this mean?

Well, it means that the Archdiocese has reached only a little over 62% of their goal.  It also means that only 38.5% of possible donors have given.

This is a HUUUGE drop from last year.

In 2018, the Appeal raised over $14 million from 39,000 donors.  

I guess they really need to find a couple of fundraisers asap!

Can You Raise $$$? The Archdiocese of Washington Needs You ASAP!

Not only has the Archdiocese of Washington has seen donations, esp. among many big donors, go down, they also seem to have a hard time finding people to fill the slots dealing with fund raising.  Trust me on both.

Below you will find two images showing the open jobs.  However, even though the date shows that the jobs have been open since early July, they were actually advertised in mid-June.  They just repost every few weeks.

Now, it is my understanding (thanks Melvin), that the jobs pay very, very well.  But it seems that they are having a hard time (thanks again Melvin) finding people to fill them.   Oh, and don't think that they have not looked internally but that is another story for another day.

So, if you are looking for a fundraising position, one that helps keeps those who cannot keep their vows, and those who protect them, in positions of authority and comfort (aka Msgr. Rossi and Archbishop Wilton), then there is a job for you in Hyattsville.

Archdiocese Annual Appeal - Someone is missing. Is it you?

In the last issue of the Catholic Standard (January 24, 2019), they were so excited to let everyone know that 39,000 people had given over $14million.  

Now, on the surface this seems wonderful.  However, this worry the Archdiocese.

What they did not tell you, is that the number of people who have contributed over the last 10 plus years, has dropped from 47,000 to 39,000.  In other words, there are over 8,000 fewer people contributing.

This was a trend that I highlighted in March 2011 on this blog.  Although the Archdiocese was able to meet the goal, there are simply fewer and fewer people giving.  

Will 2019 become the tipping point?  Will this year once again see fewer donations and fewer donors?  Don't know but will keep watching.

 

Catholic Standard Update (January 10, 2019)

It has been a very long time, since I did a review of the Catholic Standard, the bi-weekly English newspaper of the Archdiocese of Washington.  I have been wanted to do this for a while, but things get in the way.

So, here is my review of the January 10th edition:

• There is a name change to the Cardinal's Appeal.  I was correct that there would be a name change and partially right about the name.   It is now known as the Annual Appeal of the Archdiocese of Washington.   
• Regarding the Annual Appeal, according to the story on Page 3, we must remember that it is not about a particular person or institution.  Yet, for the past umpteen years, we had either Cardinals McCarrick or Wuerl gracing almost every photo in relation to the appeal.  (Note: Don't give.)
• There are no photos of Cardinal Wuerl.
• Cardinal Wuerl is mentioned as the principal celebrant of the Pro-Life Mass.  This of course changed in a few days before.  
• The Financial Report for FY2017-2018 is presented.  I wanted to point out two things that I noticed.    
• The pension fund is underfunded by $27million. 
• The Archdiocese spends $6million on Catholic Education, but an additional $26million on Catholic Educational Organizations.
• Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School gets $5.9million from the Archdiocese.  This explains why the Standard seems to give a great deal of press coverage to this school.  In addition, I did not remember hearing anything when the school was being set up, that the Archdiocese would be contributing to it.

 

Does Cardinal Wuerl think he can fool us? Does he really think that we are that stupid?

Here is Cardinal Wuerl's letter to priests of the Archdiocese of Washington.  

Does he really think that the priests in the Archdiocese are that stupid?  Does he think that this letter would not get out to the faithful?

Does Chieko Noguchi, Director of Media Relations for the Archdiocese of Washington really think that we are buying this? 

Oh, and I have learned that the Cardinal's Appeal will not be called that this year.  It will be called either the "Annual Appeal" or "Archdiocese Annual Appeal."
