Is Catholic Clergy Sex Abuse Related to Homosexual Priests?

On Nov. 2, the Ruth Institute published a new report that dares to ask a question many researchers — and Catholics — have been afraid to ask: What has been the role of active homosexuality and homosexual subcultures in the priesthood and in seminaries on the sex-abuse crisis?

The report — which indicates a very strong correlation between homosexual priests and homosexual subcultures and the incidence of clergy sexual abuse — is in part a response to the two important studies commissioned by the U.S. Bishops in the face of the sex-abuse crisis that were conducted by the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Now, to be honest or as they use to say in IBM many years ago, "Open Kimono,"  I have not read the report, but just the article.  However, if our bishops and Catholic laity continue to put their heads in the sand about this, it will only continue to erode the confidence in the and respect for the Church.

Over the last few days, there have been a number of reports of a special report, only held by the Pope, on the homosexuals within the clergy in Rome. 

On the heels of this, we have a story, published in LifeSite news, that the homosexual underground is alive and well. 

It is important that anyone who comes across information about a priest who is not living a chaste life, should be immediately be reported.  If a priest, deacon or religous who is supporting homosexual unions, should also be report to the Archdiocese for immediate removal.  If that does not work, then take it up the next step -- to the Holy See -- with copies of all documention.

Boy Scouts: Update...

My friend Melvin2 sent me this from the National Catholic Catholic Committee on Scouting regarding the recent attempts at allowing homosexuals to be Scout leaders.  He has told me that while he agrees with some of it, he does not believe that the issue of funding did not have a role.

Dear Members of the NCCS, Catholic Scouters & Concerned Parents,

I want to thank all those who prayed, attended mass, sent e-mails, letters and phone calls in regards to the potential policy change by the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) on allowing homosexuals in Scout leadership positions. I regret that I was not able to respond to each and every one of you. As I write this, I still have hundreds of unread e-mails. Of the correspondence I did read, they were well written and very passionate in support of one side or the other.

You should know that on February 4th the NCCS key leaders attended the Religious Relationship Task Force Meeting. At that meeting, the BSA Chief Scout Executive, National President and National Commissioner addressed those in attendance. Because of the media and rumors, the perception to most Scouters and concerned parents is that this policy change was due to caving in under pressure and selling out for corporate donations. As the BSA Key 3 explained to us, the reason for this proposed policy change was that their constitutional lawyers informed them that they would probably not win the next case on this issue and that the last case was a 5 to 4 decision, which could have gone the other way. They also informed us that by having this restriction, the BSA has usurped for many years the Chartered Organizations ability to select and approve their own leadership as they see fit and not as the BSA sees fit. 

We also learned that the BSA started addressing this issue last year, but did not bring the major users of the program, faith-based organizations, in on this until a few weeks before the February National Meeting. It is true that BSA has been pressured for years by outside influences but there has been a growing pressure from within to make this change. Even the Task Force, which includes key leaders from the different faith-based organizations that charter Scout units, were divided on this issue. Some of the faith-based organizations would welcome this change. The Task Force did agree on a resolution to ask the BSA National Executive Board to allow more time for its membership to provide their issues and concerns to the BSA leadership before taking a vote on this issue. 

Most of you should know by now that the BSA National Executive Board has postponed making a decision on this issue until the Annual BSA Meeting in May (22–24). The BSA leadership wants to gather more input from the Faith-Based Organizations, other chartering organizations, local Scout Councils and all those who would like to have their voice heard. The BSA leadership will then present their recommendation to the voting members who attend the Annual Meeting for approval or disapproval. 

This delay allows us to continue our efforts in ensuring that the issues and concerns of the NCCS are properly addressed and that your voice is properly represented. I am looking at changing part of the format for our Annual Meeting in April (11-14) to allow working groups to discuss this issue and make recommendations. This is such an important issue that it needs to be discussed in as much detail as possible. 

Many have asked, how can they help or what can they do to make a difference. Here are some suggestions: continue praying on this issue and for us; continue letting your voice be heard at the NCCS, BSA Council & National levels; continue sending e-mails, letters and phone calls to the BSA National leadership and National Executive Board Members. Now that we know it will be up to the voting membership at the Annual BSA Meeting, get with your Council voting members, let them know your issues and concerns, and encourage them to attend the BSA National Meeting. Finally, come to the NCCS Annual Meeting and join in the decision making process so that the NCCS leadership can represent you to the best of our ability. Most of all, be civil in your dealings with those who disagree with your position on this issue. 

Remember that we are in the Scouting program for the sake of our youth and that our needs and wants should be secondary. Remember that we should not punish the youth by not re-chartering or shutting down any Scout units, especially before a decision has been made. Remember that the youth in Scouting should not be used as pawns to be sacrificed by those for or against this policy to try and gain undue leverage in the decision making process. Remember that all Scout age youth should be encouraged to be part of this worthwhile program, so continue to recruit and grow our Catholic units and membership. Remember to let our Catholic faith be our conscience and our guide in all that we say and do. God Bless.

Once again, the pro-gay and pro-abortion forces have won a small skirmish in the war on faith and morals.

We already saw that the Most Merciful decided he wanted a "secular" person to give the opening prayer at his immaculation.  Now, a pro-family pastor is no longer giving the closing prayer.

Nov. 23, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A leading pro-family group has released a telling exposé charging that Dan Savage, the founder of the massively popular ‘It Gets Better’ homosexual anti-bullying campaign, is himself the country’s “bully-in-chief.”

Savage writes the syndicated sex column Savage Love, where, in his own words, he “traffics the skeeziest sex practices known to man.”

He is famous for his campaign defaming Republican presidential candidate Sen. Rick Santorum by using a technique known as “Google-bombing” to associate his name on the search engine with a grotesque aspect of sodomy.

In the ‘It Gets Better’ campaign, Savage encouraged people to produce their own short video message to homosexual teens, and won support from celebrities and politicians, including President Obama.

By endorsing the campaign, said Savage, Obama was telling “queer kids” that “there’s something wrong with your parents, there’s something wrong with your preachers, … and f—- those people.”

The short video, by the Family Research Council, compiles examples of Savage’s vicious and obscene attacks on Christians and conservatives, including teens.

Don't believe those who say that if we allow homosexual marriage, your rights will be protected.  Look at what happened to the diversity officer at Gallaudet.  You rights of free speech will be denied.

No tears shed for St. Aloysius

Normally, when I hear about the closing of a Catholic church, it saddens me. And that was the way I thought when I saw the headline in The Washington comPost (Sept. 9, 2012). But my thoughts changed, as I read the article a few times.

My reading reminded me of my my previous posts and the one time, of my recent visit.  In fact, the closing is actually a good thing and may be part of the very slow revival of a faithful Roman Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Washington.

So, we have the comment by a L. Tydings (of the People's Republic of Takoma Park), which leads many of us to believe that if you were a dissenter (pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, etc.), you were not only welcome but your views were respected and honored.

And the comment by Teddi Ann Galligan (DC) complaining about the church's stance of married and women priests. All I can say is; Hey lady, blame the fact that the Jesuits cannot attract young men to their order. Having seen them in action over the last few years, makes me wonder about their upholding of the faith, and could be one reason why men are not flocking to their order. Also, it was up to the Jesuits (although Cardinal Wuerl could have done something, if he wished) who refused to have it staffed by other orders or even to turn it over to the Archdiocese. Don't blame the Catholic Church. Look to the Jesuit's on this one Teddi Ann.

St. Al's was always a bed of dissent. It seemed to look the other way on homosexual relationships and was considered to be a very gay friendly church. It recently hosted a retreat by dissident Bishop Gumbleton (ret.). And, from the altar a parishioner was asking others to support the Occupy protesters.

So, I do not shed a tear for the closing of St. Al's.

So much for being open minded & diversity loving...

As I wrote of the incident in St. John Newman, not once did I (and anyone who commented that I can remember) called Barbara Johnson any sort of derogatory name. No one called her "faXXot" or "cXXX" or any other name. We simply explained that she was ineligible to receive communion due to her lifestyle.

So, the following comment is posted and seems to be pretty typical of those who keep speaking of tolerance, open mindedness, accepting of different lifestyles, etc. They are no better than Stalinists.

So, to Barbara Johnson and those who support her, here is one of your own, showing how open minded and tolerant of others he/she/it is. You must be really proud of this person, as he/she/it represents you and how you treat others. And, how you expect them to treat you.

in the Priesthood, who committed the most abuse, which has hurt the Church immensely. Now it does not mean that there were not pedophiles, nor does it mean that those priests were not only gay but also pedophiles.

Dr. Richard Fitzgibbons, a top psychiatrist and authority on treating sexually abusive priests, told CNA that he is “very critical” of the findings because they avoid discussing important causal factors in clerical sex abuse cases, namely homosexuality.

I have written about Msgr. Pope previously. He is the key writer, IMHO, on the blog of the Archdiocese of Washington. If it was not for him, the blog would probably be rarely visited.

This week, he took on the issue of why Catholic priests were not preaching and speaking out on the issue of homosexuality. He writes:

A reader sent me a link to an article on how the gay community was to overcome opposition to this. Note that Del. Heather Mizeur (D-MoCo) is a 'catholyc" who attends St. Al's parish in downtown DC. I have written about her before.

Del. Heather Mizeur (D-Montgomery County), one of the House’s five lesbian members, said concern over possible erosion of support among delegates prompted supporters to scrap an earlier strategy calling for bringing the bill up for a vote at the very end of the House of Delegates session in April.

Doing that would shorten the time opponents have for gathering petition signatures needed to place the bill before voters in a referendum, making it more difficult to pull off a referendum.

Under Maryland’s referendum law, the clock begins for obtaining petitions when a bill is passed by both houses and the governor signs it. The state constitution sets the deadline for turning in the required number of petition signatures — 3 percent of the registered voters in the state — by June 1 following the adjournment of the legislature, which usually takes place at the end of April.

Thus by passing the marriage bill in the House in early March, as supporters now hope to do, opponents could get more than a month of additional time to obtain the petition signatures than if the bill passed at the end of the session in late April. Gov. Martin O’Malley has said he would sign the bill if it reaches him.

If opponents succeed in gathering the required number of valid petition signatures, the bill is put on hold. It would not become law unless voters defeat the referendum question submitted by opponents, which would call for defeating the bill and defining marriage in the state as a union only between a man and a woman.

The Most Merciful Supports True Marriage (NOT)

The Obama administration announced Wednesday that it will no longer defend the federal law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

The decision marks a significant about-face for the Obama Justice Department, which until now had defended the law in court despite President Obama's misgivings with the policy. The administration's attorneys as recently as last month had filed a court motion in support of the Defense of Marriage Act, which effectively bans recognition of same-sex marriage.

Cardinal Wuerl on Fox News...

Recently, Cardinal Wuerl appeared on Fox News. (See link below.)

I found it interesting to watch, esp. when it came to the question of Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT). Cardinal Wuerl gave an answer that any politician would be proud about -- he beat around the bush for a while and then said, well, it is a political question and not one for the Catholic Church.

Sorry Cardinal Wuerl, but that is the answer I would expect from someone who wants us to leave our religious values at the door and not from the leader of the Catholic Church in Washington DC. Yes, it is a political decision, but it has implications on those priests who serve in the military and on those who are Catholics.

Cardinal Wuerl seems more interested in making certain that no one gets their feelings hurt, as he continues to promote his New Evangelization.

I have said it before, and I will say it again, you have to tell people the truth Cardinal Wuerl -- there are things that people may not want to hear but you must tell them that it is wrong.

How much longer must we continue to suffer from this lack of leadership?

I applaud CUA for trying to hold firm. Georgetown, in my humble opinion, is a lost cause and our Archbishop only seems to enable this.

Church Draws the Line Over DC Gay Marriage Law

(Washington, DC) -- The Catholic Church says it'll end all social service programs it runs for the city if the bill legalizing same sex marriage is passed as it's currently written.

Currently, the bill would not require any religious organization to perform or make any accommodations for same-sex weddings if it doesn't want to. But they would have to obey city laws that prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation.

A spokeswoman for the Archdiocese of Washington says it will not continue working with the city if it is forced to accept conditions it finds morally disagreeable.

The church tells the Post the DC Council is ignoring the right of religious freedom. The archdiocese is not a dominant provider in any social service, but its work helps 68 thousand city residents, including a third of Washington's homeless population.


In addition, it seems that Yvette Alexander (Ward 7) attempted to add some language to protect religious groups from having to rent facilities, etc., to events that were deemed objectionable to their faith. This seems to have been shot down.

Sex Abuse in Catholic Church was Homosexual Problem

When the scandal broke, I attended my parish meeting. I was told in no uncertain terms by everyone that the scandal had nothing to do with homosexual priests. Something told me that this could not be quite right, since having sex w/ a 14 year old boy was not something that a pedophile would be after. They are usually after much younger victims. Well, my hunch was correct.

The sexual abuse crisis in the Catholic Church in the US and abroad was a matter of homosexuals preying on adolescent boys, not one of pedophilia, said the Vatican's representative at the UN in Geneva, Switzerland. It is "more correct," said Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, to speak of ephebophilia, a homosexual attraction to adolescent males, than pedophilia, in relation to the scandals.

"Of all priests involved in the abuses, 80 to 90 per cent belong to this sexual orientation minority which is sexually engaged with adolescent boys between the ages of 11 and 17," said Tomasi. His statement is backed up by a report commissioned by the US bishops that found that in the overwhelming majority of cases the clergy involved were homosexuals, with 81 percent of victims being adolescent males.
