There are many who criticized Mrs. Laura Bush. She is too much like a Stepford wife. She does not speak out enough (or loud enough). She isn't stylish enough. Blah, blah, blah.
Personally, I think Mrs. Bush has "a lot of class," as they say.
The Catholic News Agency reports on her final school visit as First Lady...
Mrs. Laura Bush on Tuesday visited Little Flower School in Bethesda, Maryland in her last school visit as First Lady. Noting the upcoming celebration of National Catholic Schools Week, she praised the history of Catholic schools in the United States and congratulated Little Flower for being chosen as a Blue Ribbon School.
Her audience included school faculty, students, and the Archbishop of Washington Donald Wuerl.
“This is my last school visit as First Lady of the United States, and I wanted to end my school visit with a terrific school like Little Flower,” Mrs. Bush said during her 10 a.m. remarks, in which she also referenced her career as a teacher and school librarian.
The First Lady said that National Schools Week, observed from Jan. 25 – 31, is “the week that everybody in the United States can thank our Catholic schools for the great work that you do all over our country and all over the world, really.”
“It's also a time for us to talk to our leaders about the importance of Catholic education,” she continued.
Thank you Mrs. Bush. You will be missed by many of us.

I think we Catholics owe a debt of gratitude to President and Mrs. Bush. Both the President and First Lady visited Catholic schools and showed support for all that our Catholic schools do. We Catholics should be particularly gratified that President Bush has signed a proclamation designating Sunday, January 18, 2009 as "Sanctity of Life Sunday." This will be the last Sunday that he will be President. Well done Mr. President.
All this being said, it's a pity that both Mrs Bush first ladies are pro-abortion.
To the 2nd Anon, can you provide me with the sources for your statements?
I think it is widely known Mrs. Bush is pro-choice, but she is a person of good will and it was an honor she visited the school.
Again, Katherine do you have any citations for your statement that she is pro-abortion.
The anonymous poster was not me.
She's never made a speech on the topic but it has been widely reported that Mrs. Bush is pro abortion. How this is known, I don't know because, she's never spoken publicly on it but that's the general narrative.
Katherine:
I was commenting on your posting, which is why I wrote to you by name.
Again, if you have any sources, please I would be interesting in seeing them.
She was asked in 2000 if she would like to see Roe overturned and she said no. During the 2004 campaign, she was asked if that was still her view and she said yes.
