Help Stop Nancy Pelosi and the Health Care Disaster!

Because of the seriousness of the issue below, I am postponing my story on education in the Archdiocese till later in the week. Thanks for understanding.

If you are Catholic and believe that abortion is immoral, that the government should not fund abortions and that Catholics in the health care field should not be forced to either quit their jobs or help commit murder, then you need to help stop the health care bill.

From American Papist:

it is believed that Pelosi will bring her health care bill to a vote in the House of Representatives this week. I am strongly against this bill and so are the US bishops. Please visit usccb.org/action to contact your representatives demanding they VOTE NO on it!

The Bishops are not against this bill. The Bishops strongly support the government guaranteeing universal health care. They are opposed to a provision within the bill regarding public partial vouchers so people could by private health insurance. They say people using these partial vouchers should not be allowed to use them to buy private health insurance that covers abortion. They are right.

Support an amendment to change the bill. That is what the bishops are asking.

Katherine has it right and also illustrates the problem with the debate. It's a highly complex problem and many (mostly conservative and like you AAoWC) want to over-simplify the for/against argument. It results in an 'throw-the-baby-out-with-the-bathwater' result, ultimately leaving us all without any improvement to the healthcare system.

The Bishops should be ashmend of themselves!!! What part of "Partial Birth Abortion" do they not understand? Obama's voting record prior to the Presidency was very clear. Obama was 100% behind Partial Birth Abortion. This was covered in the news and then candidate Obama did not back away from his stance. So now our dear Bishops are acting like this is all so shocking! But we know. We warned them. It is very hard to peddle up hill isn't it? You knew Obama was pro-abort, yet you voted for him anyways. You even subtly encouraged your parishoners to do the same. Ah, buyer's remorse. How does the mill stone feel?
