Perry Como - Ave Maria

This past weekend, I was browsing thru a religous catalgoue and came across a Perry Como album of religious hymns. As a child, I remember his Christmas specials and this was always part of it. And for those of you who do not know, Mr. C was Roman Catholic.

Although this is probably his earliest version, I thought I would share one of my favorite renditions of Ave Maria with each of you.

Have a good weekend, there will be a great deal to discuss next week.

I like Parry Como. It was just a few years ago that i discovered he was in fact Catholic.

This rendition of the Ave Maria is quite beautiful. It does capture the qualities of the times (with the background vocals) in which it was performed by Como. But if you want to listen to music that is truly sacred and infused with contemplative mysticism (by mysticism I mean mystery of God), then go no further than the greatest sacred composition of all time: Allegri's Miserere Me Deus.

Tom, great commendation of Allegri's Miserere Me Deus. May I also recommend Arcadelt's Ave Maria? This gem is rarely sung but has the same contemplative quality as Allegri's piece.
