Maryland Voters -- Say NO to Question 4 the Nightmare Act

The wording for the Dream Act (aka The Nightmare Act) has been published by the Maryland Catholic Conference and others.

I urge you to vote NO on Question 4.  Do not give those who are in the country illegally, the same rights and privileges as those who were either born here legally or have entered the country legally.

You know the Maryland Catholic Conference is not telling the full truth on this.  And, as some of you know, they will no longer let me comment on their website about it.  I guess, they don't like it when you knock down their straw arguments. 

And tell the Maryland Catholic Conference to put their efforts into defeating the Gay Marriage vote, as well as, focusing on obtaining vouchers and tax credits for those who send their children to Catholic Schools.  

For shame MCC!!!

Dream Act Sabbath - A Boom or Bust?

This weekend was to be the HUGE Dream Act Sabbath education effort. There were suppose to be things happening at parishes in the Archdiocese, as well as, non Catholic places of worship.

At my parish, at the early Mass (attended by about 400 souls) there was NOTHING. Not a peep, not a word about the Dream Act. No bulletin insert. No bulletin announcement.

Dream aka Nightmare Act Weekend

This weekend, the Maryland Catholic Conference (MCC) is promoting the Dream Act Weekend. This will be an all out effort, among a number of different faiths, to promote/indoctrinate the faithful on why the Maryland Dream Act is important to support.

From what I have been able to gather, it will be an effort to pull on your heartstrings and make it seem like the only reasonable thing to do.

The problem is that they are not telling you that it will cost the citizens and those with legal residency apx. $60,000,000 per year.

Yep, you read it right...

SIXTY MILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR.

You see, they will only tell you how much it costs for one community college in one year. Remember, there are apx. 16 community colleges. What about the state colleges?

Also, watch their wording..they never say illegal aliens. The term used will either be "undocumented immigrants" or "immigrants." They will never tell you that these folks have broken the law.

Catholic Standard Weekly Update

Let the trumpets blare and the women swoon, it is time once again for the weekly update of the Catholic Standard (July 7th edition).

I have already talked about the effort by the Archdiocese and their support of illegal immigration.

We have an article on the 60th Anniversary of the ordination of His Holiness, Pope Benedict (Ad Multos Annos!!) and how the Vatican is moving more and more into the world of social media.

We have news on the abortion and gay marriage front. We have two articles on the church in China, as well as, the Church in Romania.

Although I rarely agree with Fr. Daly, he has some interesting thoughts about some of his relatives, as he reflects on 25 years as a priest. We also have some reflection by Ricahrd Szczepanowski on his nephew, who was just commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the USMC. Thank God we have such young men and women.

Finally, as always, we have some wonderful photos of Vietnamese Catholics who honor Mary. The young women all look so beatiful in their traditional dress.

The Maryland State Board of Elections validated over 63,000 signatures to place the Repeal of the Maryland Dream Act before the CITIZENS of Maryland. There are another 40,000 to be verified.

All I can say is WOW and THANK YOU!!

This week's Catholic Standard has a full page article, written by the Communications Office, on the Maryland Catholic Conference's Immigration Task Force to fight this repeal. (Thanks Melvin for getting this to me, so that I don't have to get it at Church this weekend.)

Now you can tell it is important to the Archdiocese, because it is on Page 3 -- and that is where you want important stories to be when you open a tabloid -- and written by the Communications Office because it is a "Special to the Standard".

So, let's take a look at the Standard story a bit more in depth...

• There is little mention that these students are illegal aliens (the legal term).



• They do not mention that will cost the taxpayers of Maryland $12,000 per student per year. With a possible cost to the taxpayers of over $60 million per year.



• They state that these students will not take slots away from residents but they will take away slots from other citizens! What the MCC ITF is saying is that who cares if it takes away from other US citizens, as long as it does not take away from Maryland citizens.



• The MCC states that they do not condone people breaking the law, but they they go right back to the argument that we should embrace the law breakers and give them this benefit.



• According to Msgr. Brennan of St. Martin of Tours in Gaithersburg we must allow these students to attend at a discount. Baloney. We don't have to and should not.



• The article states that they will getting on the phones and into parishes. Let's see if we will get sermons on this from the MCC, parish inserts, etc. Let's keep a watchful eye on this one.

It is time we tell the Maryland Catholic Conference (MCC) and the Archdiocese that there are more important things to focus on -- like tax breaks for Catholic school parents and stopping gay marriage.

Stop wasting your time on this nonsense and support JUSTICE for US CITIZENSHIP.

JUSTICE for US CITIZENSHIP

Over the last few months, we have heard the Maryland Catholic Conference (MCC) calling for immigration reform justice.

As we celebrate the 4th of July, I am demanding that they support

JUSTICE for US CITIZENSHIP

JUSTICE for US CITIZENSHIP means that the immigration laws of the country are upheld and that those here illegally (no matter what their age) be returned to their homeland, where they can apply to enter legally.

If the MCC can support "economic justice" "justice for janitors" "environmental justice" they can support JUSTICE for US CITIZENSHIP.

That is of course, unless they do not value the concept of US Citizenship. And from their support of the Dream Act, indicates that they do not value what being a US Citizen means.

Now, you can tell that the Maryland Catholic Conference is running SCARED! With the simple fact that there are more than enough signatures to get the MARYLAND DREAM ACT Repeal on the ballot, they have launched a website and Facebook page to urge us to vote against it. Again, filled with half truths and hiding the facts.

This was their only real victory in the Maryland legislative year. They cannot get tax breaks for Catholic parents, nor can they restrict abortion and they barely kept gay marriage from being legal.

I think that it is time we send them a strong message this November.

UPDATE (1:30pm): The Archdiocese of Washington and the Maryland Catholic Conference (MCC) support Casa of Maryland. Look at what Casa of Maryland is doing to prevent the petition signing to repeal the Maryland Dream Act.

MCC and the Archdiocese of Washington should be ashamed of themselves in associating with these THUGS.

Washington Theological Union to Close

The Catholic graduate school and seminary Washington Theological Union announced on June 27 that its closing at the end of the 2012 - 2013 academic year.

The Washington, D.C. seminary – which boasts 1,400 religious and lay alumni worldwide – has decided to shut its doors after 40 years, citing financial challenges, low enrollment and a decline in the number of religious vocations.

Opportunity Scholarships -- The Rush Is On

The Washington comPost this weekend had an article in the Metro section about the rush to apply for the DC Opportunity Scholarships. Now, did you not that there was no mention of which political party (hint: The Most Merciful Barack Obama is the "head" of it) did whatever it could to kill this opportunity for those in the mostly failing DC public schools.

Nope. Nada. Nothing.

But of course, they take every opportunity to criticize it.

To my readers:

Over the last few weeks, due to a number of personal issues, I have not had the opportunity to post. However, I am keeping a close eye on the doings of the Archdiocese.

For example, did you notice that the Catholic Standard's article on the 150th Anniversary of Providence Hospital neglected to mention that on the Board of Directors is a prominent pro-abortion/pro-gay rights advocate? I wonder why they did not mention this? Do you?

And I wonder if there was a session on how to hide these and other embarrassing facts at the Catholic Media Convention in Pittsburgh last week.

The 30th day of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet church-yard in the land. In this observance no form of ceremony is prescribed, but posts and comrades will in their own way arrange such fitting services and testimonials of respect as circumstances may permit.

We are organized, comrades, as our regulations tell us, for the purpose among other things, "of preserving and strengthening those kind and fraternal feelings which have bound together the soldiers, sailors, and marines who united to suppress the late rebellion." What can aid more to assure this result than cherishing tenderly the memory of our heroic dead, who made their breasts a barricade between our country and its foes? Their soldier lives were the reveille of freedom to a race in chains, and their deaths the tattoo of rebellious tyranny in arms. We should guard their graves with sacred vigilance. All that the consecrated wealth and taste of the nation can add to their adornment and security is but a fitting tribute to the memory of her slain defenders. Let no wanton foot tread rudely on such hallowed grounds. Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent visitors and fond mourners. Let no vandalism of avarice or neglect, no ravages of time testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic.

If other eyes grow dull, other hands slack, and other hearts cold in the solemn trust, ours shall keep it well as long as the light and warmth of life remain to us.

Let us, then, at the time appointed gather around their sacred remains and garland the passionless mounds above them with the choicest flowers of spring-time; let us raise above them the dear old flag they saved from hishonor; let us in this solemn presence renew our pledges to aid and assist those whom they have left among us a sacred charge upon a nation's gratitude, the soldier's and sailor's widow and orphan.

It is the purpose of the Commander-in-Chief to inaugurate this observance with the hope that it will be kept up from year to year, while a survivor of the war remains to honor the memory of his departed comrades. Well folks, I was wrong on the Maryland Dream Act. Yep, hard to believe. Even harder to believe that I would admit to it, but I am.

You see the figure of $16,000 per student seems to a bit high. It is actually about $12,000 per illegal alien for a two year period. The total cost was seen as $800K in the first year, and $3million at the end of the third year.

It also seems that the figures provided by Legislative Reference were only for one (1) community college, not for the sixteen (16) that are in the State of Maryland.

Therefore, if there are apx. 1,000 illegal aliens, each costing the taxpayer $12K, the ACTUAL COST IS $12million minimum per year.

Now, the state believes there will be apx. 5,000 illegal alien students eligible per year, so you do the math.

Oh, and don't forget, after community college comes the four year programs. How much more will that cost us?

Stop the hijacking of your tax dollars by CASA of MD and the Maryland Catholic Conference to support illegal activities. Send them a message that if we do not tolerate this type of behavior by them.

It is time for all Catholics (and non-Catholics) to allow the people of Maryland to vote if they support the Maryland Dream Act.

Remember the following:

• These are illegal aliens who have broken Federal law


• For each illegal alien who attends a Maryland college, it will cost the taxpayers $16,00o per student in today's cost.


• It will cost (a conservative estimate) over $3million per year to the Maryland taxpayers

Give the citizens of Maryland the opportunity to vote on this. Why was this rammed down our throats.

By doing so, you will also be sending a message to the Maryland Catholic Conference (MCC) that we will not tolerate their support of this measure and their association with Casa of Maryland. In addition, this puts them in bed with the same politicians who support gay marriage and abortion.

The Maryland Catholic Conference (MCC) released a statement praising Gov. O’Malley and the Maryland General Assembly for supporting the DREAM ACT. As always, the MCC hides the fact that they are supporting people who have BROKEN FEDERAL LAW and who know that they are breaking the law.

What should strike everyone about their statement is that there is NO MENTION that these men and women are ILLEGAL ALIENS. There is no mention that for each ILLEGAL ALIEN who attends college at an in-state tuition rate, it will cost taxpayers $16,000 per ILLEGAL ALIEN. And who pays for that? You, and you, and you and me.

The MCC says they do not condone breaking the law but by are rewarding those who have broken the law. Maybe the MCC should give out a $1000 check to the person or persons who break into a Catholic Church or Catholic institution?

Sounds crazy, but that is what the MCC is supporting. They are supporting those who have entered the country ILLEGALLY and rewarding them for it.

Therefore, I am calling on all Catholics and non-Catholics to sign the petition to put the DREAM ACT on the ballot in November. (The link is below.) It is important to tell the Governor, the Maryland Assembly and the MCC that we do not condone those who are here illegally, nor should they be rewarded.

In addition, I am calling on Cardinal Wuerl and the other bishops to abolish the Maryland Catholic Conference (MCC) and all employees who support the rewarding of ILLEGAL activities. I URGE YOU TO DO THIS IMMEDIATELY!
