The Light Is On For You: Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation

THE LIGHT IS ON FOR YOU. Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

“The Light Is On For You” is an initiative of the Archdiocese of Washington, in partnership with the Diocese of Arlington, to allow all Catholics to avail themselves of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Confessions will be held every Wednesday during Lent from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in every Catholic church in the Archdiocese of Washington and Diocese of Arlington.

You should do a follow up article on the subject. One such article could focus on the mission of that religious order whose central point of concentration is to get people to go to Confession, aka the Sacrament of Penance, aka the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It was the first religious order ever founded in response to an approved Marian Apparition. That order is the Missionaries of La Salette.

Somebody somewhere should introduce the 21st Century American Catholic world to the apparition of La Salette. It began with Our Lady coming down from the sky in a ball of luminosity. When the bal landed, it split in half, revealing Our Lady sitting on a rock, shedding tears, holding her hands to her face. The apparition proceeded with her telling the nearby shepherd children to not fear. She then said that she had "great news." This was September 19, 1846.

At La Salette, Our Lady proceeded to mention that two sins were making her son's hand of chastisement too heavy to hold back. She then mentioned what would happen if people continued in those two sins. Well, people continued in those two sins and the late 19th Century famines ensued. This included the famous Irish potato famine.

I went to Catholic school for 12 years and was never informed of this apparition. I was never told about Guadeloupe, Lourdes, or Fatima in those 12 years, either.
The coincidence with the La Salette prophecies and the Irish potato famine should have been enough of a reason to relay this apparition to Catholic school students, simply as a curiosity piece.

Incidentally, the two sins mentioned at La Salette were: 1] the use of the Lord's name in vain, 2] the Desecration of Sunday.

There is something interesting about this combination. Old Catholic prayer books mention these two sins as being the two sins which desecrate the Holy Face of Jesus. The Holy Face of Jesus is symbolic of the presence of God.
Therefore, those two specific sins make an individual person and an entire society incapable of recognizing the presence of God. This makes such people easily deceived by Satanic masquerades. Take note that there has been a lot of masquerading going on since 1846.

The number 1 goal in this life is to leave it in the State of Grace. The Sacrament of Confession and the examination of conscience are two things that have been way way way too neglected during these past few decades.

I have to hand it to the Archbishop on this. This effort is most commendable.

I'm the guy who submitted the La Salette comment. Before I get to Part 2, there is one thing I forgot to mention in the first comment:

The La Salette missionary with whom I spoke at length told me that he joined that particular religious order for one reason only. Reason:

He was moved by the tears of a woman. La Salette was Our Lady in tears.

This is the La Salette guy with Part 2. It's a lesson in catching a deceiver in his deception.

The Light Is One For You sounds salutary, noble, inspirational, and Pat O'Brien times ten. Then you see that it is a distorted deviation from the true faith, as the faith has been taught throughout the centuries. Observe:

Confession involves a prior act before walking into a confessional --- the Examination of Conscience. On "the Light Is On For You" website, there is a link to four links to recently written examinations of conscience, along with the text of a fifth examination of conscience on the linked page. Those examinations of conscience have the USCCB's seal of approval on them. Now watch:

Firstly, church teaching is changeless. That which was a sin in 310 AD (or CE) is still a sin in 2010 AD (or CE.) Secondly, Evil is the lack of a good which ought to be present but is absent. Now, concerning the Examinations of Conscience provided by the Archbishop of D.C., the Bishop of Arlington, and the USCCB, what is inexcusably missing?

ANS: The section which speaks of Sins of Accessory. Therefore, the examinations of conscience provided for this program are NOT Catholic, because they omit a part of moral theology which is in the "deposit of faith."

The sin of accessory section has been commonly viewed in prayer books of the past. Suddenly, in the Year 2010, the sin of accessory is made to seem non-existent, by Wuerl and company. However, neglect of that element of moral theology is nothing more than yet another example of Wuerl's abridgment of the true faith.

An example of a sin of accessory is that of giving money to a secular group that advocates elective abortions and homosexual lifestyles.

One can be an accessory to sin, and therefore guilty of sin:

1] By counsel (advising.)
2] By command.
3] By consent.
4] By provocation.
5] By praise or flattery.
6] By concealment.
7] By partaking.
8] By silence.
9] By defense of the ill done.

More can be, and in the future, should be said of this subject. For now, know that the deliberate disregard for this type of sin is perhaps Wuerl's greatest distortion of the Catholic Faith.

In conclusion, the five examinations of conscience provided by "the Light Is On For You" program will succeed at nothing more than deceiving people into making bad confessions. It was equivalent to cutting pages out of a true Catholic Catechism book.

I hope Wuerl will also call on pro-abortion "Catholics" to repent!

And maybe he could keep this going at his cathedral all year long. As it is, he offers confessions there:
Mon–Fri: 11:00 a.m.–noon
Sat: 4:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m.

But not on Sundays or holy days - the 2 times when people are most likely to be there!!!

Perhaps I missed it, but Wuerl's short guide on confession leaves out something stipulated by Trent - we must confess as nearly as possible the number of mortal sins!

The "catechist" bishop doesn't even seem to use the distinction of mortal and venial sin! He says to confess "all" sins. While this is commendable, it is important people learn to distinguish grave from light matter.

I do pray he never gets a red hat!

Good point, Anon of February 24, 2010 6:28 PM.

So, what is Wuerl's motive for this Light Is On For You program? Wuerl has been shown to always have a self seeking motive. Is he trying to change the doctrine of the confessional in a sneaky way? Is he using this program as a sneaky way to make a church participation census? Is he going to have collection baskets ever so coincidentally positioned at each entrance and exit?

Once again, something is aromatically challenged in the State of Denmark.

You need an expert in Wuerlese, just to translate what this guy is saying. What is this? The Reader's Digest version of confession?

Wuerl's coat of arms should have a roadblock on it, because Wuerl definitely is a roadblock to salvation.

A snake should be on that coat of arms, too. Plus, instead of Wuerl's motto being "Thy will be done," it would be more honest to for it to be, "My Will Be Done." And then, at the lower right hand corner of the court of arms should be a 1040 form, being that Wuerl's obsessive goal in life is to make taxpayer money.

So, let's have a review. The more honest Donald Wuerl coat of arms would have on it:

- a snake
- a roadblock
- a 1040 tax form
- the motto which summarizes Wuerl's being: "My will be done."

Then again, a substitute motto on Wuerl's coat of arms could be: "See you in Hell." After all, that's where he's taking his followers. In fact, if you had dealings with Wuerl in Pittsburgh, Wuerl already took you there. At least he took you through Hell.

When Wuerl dies, many people will not have affectionate tears in their eyes, upon reading the news. Upon learning of Wuerl's death, many people will simply sit with bitterness, wondering what took God so long.
