Environmentalist Wackos are at it again...

My colleague over at Restore-DC-Catholicism beat me to it.

The Environmental Committee of the Archdiocese of Washington has come out not only with a new calendar but also a new name.  I guess if you change the branding, you hope that people will forget.  Many will, some won't.

So, in my parish bulletin the environmental wackos are at it again.  Do you think that they would learn...

An Example for the Archdiocese Environment Outreach Committee

I believe that the Environmental Outreach Committee of the Archdiocese of Washington, has really not done enough to encourage and demonstrate the importance of the environment this Lent.

Therefore, I would like to introduce the Committee to one priest and his efforts to save not only souls, but the environment.

May they, and the Archdiocese as a whole, use his example as a model for every parish. Ask any priest or bishop what their primary function is, and most if not all will respond: "To save souls".

Fr Norbert Crombley, pastor of Our Lady of Sustainability, would add "...and planet Earth" at the end.

To demonstrate his concern for the environment and the earth, he's launched a light bulb replacement program at his parish, the only one of its kind in America.

The Environmental Outreach Committee...Can we Recycle them?

Once again, the Archdiocese has put together a Lenten Stewardship Calendar produced by the Environmental Outreach Committee. Now, it is not as bad as last year, nor as bad as the one used by Blessed Sacrament but still WHY ARE WE WASTING MONEY ON THIS???

I wonder how much energy was spent on creating this? Maybe we could have reduced the carbon footprint even more if it was not created.

I was hoping that they would have finally gone away, like ALGORE and his Global Warming scam but nope, like Bram Stoker's Dracula is seems to come back from the dead.

And to add insult to injury, they are going to have a one day Social Ministry conference. Why? What is the value other than to show that they are "doing something."

How many people will attend? How far will they drive (and energy spent) to get there? How much energy have they spent to put this together? How much energy will they spend to hold the conference? Why are they ordering lunches which you can purchase? Why don't they ask everyone to brown bag it? These are the questions inquiring minds want to know.

And then the Cardinal wonders why I won't give.

++++++++++++++++

UPDATE: On the same-sex marriage bill in Maryland, it seems that Del. Robert Garagiola (D-Montgomery) was not simply a supported but one of the key co-sponsors of this legislation. This comes from State Sen. Richard Madeleno's email to constituants. Well, Cardinal Wuerl, what say you?

Follow-up on two stories...

This week's edition of the Catholic Standard contained an article on the prayer service hosted by the Environment Committee of the Archdiocese of Washington.

This seems to be a committee in search of meaning. Maybe it is time to end the search and end the foolishness. But I digress.

A while back, I wrote about this service and what I found most troubling. Of the three things that were the focus of the service, the Catholic Standard article did not mention one of them. Yep, they did not talk about "repentance." I wonder why? I would love to hear from anyone on the Committee or the the Archdiocese on why that one was not mentioned.

Last week, I wrote about the Catholic Network of Volunteer Service who will have Chris "I get a thrill up my leg" Matthews as the guest speaker. I had one person contact me that he/she has written them (respectfully, he/she added) but has not heard back. I guess if you don't respond, then the embarrassment might go away.

Oh, and our colleagues at Restore DC Catholicism showed that there was an advertisement for this event in the Catholic Standard. I think that someone in the Advertising Department might have some 'splainin' to do.

The Archdiocese Environment Committee -- The Wackos are Taking Over

A number of bloggers, including myself, have written about the Archdiocese of Washington Environmental Committee. Remember the Lenten Fast suggestions this year? Who could forget that? Probably the Archdiocese wish it would have never happened.

Well, it seems that they are sponsoring an "evening of service prayer, repentance and reflection" regarding what is happening in the Gulf of Mexico on June 9th.

Now, I can understand how we want to pray for those affected by this and the devastation that is happening to the coastline and wildlife. I understand it and pray for those affected by it.

However, I do have two questions for this Committee:

  • What do we need to repent for? I am not certain what we have done to be sorry for? Do you mean that by using my car to go to work is something I should repent for? Do you mean that taking my family on a vacation is a crime that I should be ashamed of?
  • How do you intend to get to St. Camilus? If you are driving a car or taking any other form of transportation that involves fossil fuels, aren't you part of the problem and not part of the solution?

What is going on here? Are the environmentalist wackos taking over? Is this going to be the new devotion in the Archdiocese? Instead of the Year of the Priest, it will be the Year of the Environment? (I probably just gave someone an idea!)

Doesn't anyone think about what they are saying? You claim that we should repent? Start with yourselves. Stop driving to buy food, go to the doctor and even going to Mass. Walk or bike. Read day old newspapers and use sandals made from old tires. Only shop in consignment shops and don't take a shower every day.

Is this what the Archdiocese is helping to fund?

BTW, I would love to hear from anyone on the Environment Committee and I promise to post your response exactly as you have written it.
