The Catholic Surprise

Catholics, on the other hand, were plus-2 for Obama in 2012 and plus-7 for Trump this year. Evangelicals helped Trump in states he was mostly going to win anyway. Catholics? Now we’re talking about Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin. And that was the election. It nearly didn’t happen.

Trump’s outreach people were tone-deaf about Catholic voters. They were putting their eggs in baskets marked Evangelicals, African-Americans and Hispanics. Catholics were of secondary importance.

But one Catholic leader, Deal Hudson, didn’t believe this, and he single-handedly organized a big-name Catholic Advisory Committee, a conference call with state campaign directors, a conference call between Trump and Catholic leaders, a tweet and video from Trump when Mother Teresa was canonized and an interview with Trump on the Catholic EWTN television network.

Rest in Peace Fr. Casimir Peterson

Father Casimir M. Peterson, a priest who attracted international attention for using detective skills in uncovering a long-forgotten Marian crown of jewels, died Dec. 4.  He was 95

He was pastor of St. Lawrence in Jessup from 1968 to 1971, then served as pastor of Holy Family in Randallstown for four years. With the permission of Archbishop William D. Borders, he was chaplain to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington, D.C., from 1975 to 1988, when he retired.

Is Pope Francis Selling Out the Church in China?

The more and more I learn of this Pope, and see his actions, I almost wonder if he attempting to make the Roman Catholic Church in the image of the Anglican Church.

The most senior Chinese Catholic has slammed a potential rapprochement between the Vatican and Beijing, saying it would be “betraying Jesus Christ”, amid a thaw in more than six decades of bitter relations.

Cardinal Joseph Zen, the 84-year-old former bishop of Hong Kong, has been an outspoken critic, saying any agreement where Beijing would have a hand in approving clergy would be “a surrender”.

Our choices end where another’s more fundamental right begins

Finally, be wary of candidates who assume to take upon themselves the role of defining what Catholics believe or should believe. Unfortunately, the vice-presidential debate revealed that the Catholic running for the second highest office in our land is an orthodox member of his party, fulling embracing his party’s platform, but a cafeteria Catholic, picking and choosing the teachings of the Catholic Church that are politically convenient.

WikiLeaks: Podesta and Left-Wing Activist Plot ‘Catholic Spring’

“There needs to be a Catholic Spring, in which Catholics themselves demand the end of a middle ages dictatorship and the beginning of a little democracy and respect for gender equality in the Catholic Church,” Sandy Newman, president and founder of the progressive nonprofit Voices for Progress, writes to Podesta in an email titled “opening for a Catholic Spring? just musing.”

Catholic Athletes for Christ

Not to long ago, I had the opportunity to meet the founder of Catholic Athletes for Christ.

Their goal:

CAC’s goal is to provide an integrated network of sports oriented clergy and lay people to serve Catholic athletes, coaches, and staff in the practice of their faith and to utilize the unique platform given to them to reach the world for Jesus Christ and His Church.

Vote as a Catholic with a Catholic Moral Vision

Satan is no idiot. He has successfully convinced most Catholics that moral issues are political issues. And in so doing he has successfully shut down a huge amount of moral exhortation and reflection. This is especially true in a political season such as this, when the distinctions between the candidates on critical moral issues could not be clearer or sharper.

Pro-lifers protest ‘flagship’ Planned Parenthood opening in DC!

Several dozen pro-life activists, some holding images of women killed by legal abortion, greeted buses of Planned Parenthood supporters at both entrances to a fundraising event celebrating the abortion chain’s new mega-facility in Northeast Washington. Before walking several blocks from the abortion facility to the gala site, activists prayed and protested as donors visited the new “flagship” center for a VIP reception.

“We have to be here for a number of reasons,” Rev. Patrick Mahoney of Church on the Hill DC, the Christian Defense Coalition, and Abortion-Free DC told LifeSiteNews. “One, to stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters who are going to be brutalized here. … We’re here to be a voice for them. We’re here to offer women hope and support and encouragement.”

So, Jesus and Satan were arguing... (A Little Humor)

They had been going at it for days, and frankly God was tired of hearing all the bickering. Finally fed up, God said, 'THAT'S IT! I have had enough. I am going to setup a test that will run for two hours, and from those results, I will judge who does the better job.' So Satan and Jesus sat down at the keyboards and typed away. They moused.

They faxed.
They e-mailed.
They e-mailed with attachments.
They downloaded.
They did spreadsheets!
They wrote reports.
They created labels and cards.
They created charts and graphs.
They did some genealogy reports .
They did every job known to man.

Jesus worked with heavenly efficiency and Satan was faster than hell. Then, ten minutes before their time was up, lightning suddenly flashed across the sky, thunder rolled, rain poured, and, of course, the power went off.

Satan stared at his blank screen and screamed every curse word known in the underworld. Jesus sighed.  Finally the electricity came back on, and each of them restarted their computers.

Satan started searching frantically, screaming: 'It's gone! It's all GONE! 'I lost everything when the power went out!'

Meanwhile, Jesus quietly started printing out all of his files from the past two hours of work. Satan observed this and became irate.

'Wait!' he screamed. 'That's not fair! He cheated! How come he has all his work and I don't have any?'

God just shrugged and said, JESUS SAVES...

How Obama bought off the USCCB this election year!

The American Catholic hierarchy is elevating other causes to primacy in place of the life issue, a new report says, “relegating the pro-life ministries to the doctrinal ash heap and committing funds and personnel to promote environmental and migration issues.”

“Migration pays very well,” said attorney and international child rights advocate Elizabeth Yore, “pro-life pays nothing.”

Thousands of federal grants and contracts come from the Obama administration to the Catholic Church, Yore says in the report, but in particular, hundreds of millions of dollars in fiscal year 2016 alone found their way to the USCCB, Catholic Charities, CRS, and the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC), “jaw dropping grants to carry out the Obama agenda.”

You may not be born Homosexual!

A new report presents biological, psychological, and social science evidence that many commonly held ideas about gender and sexuality lack scientific support.

The report, authored by Dr. Lawrence S. Mayer and Dr. Paul R. McHugh and published in the fal 2016 edition of The New Atlantis, is titled Sexuality and Gender: Findings from the Biological, Psychological, and Social Sciences.

Mayer and McHugh considered more than 200 peer-review studies related to human sexuality and found that the understandings of sexual orientation and gender identity as "innate" rather than fluid are "not supported by scientific evidence."

Msgr. Charles V. Antonicelli: Supporter of Pro-Abortion Politician!

Now you would think that a Roman Catholic priest would not be actively supporting a pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage politician such as Hillary, but I am wrong.

It seems that Msgr. Charles V. Antonicelli, Pastor of the Church of the Annunciation, is a supporter of Hillary "Never Met an Abortion I Did Not Like" Clinton. He has donated over $500 to her campaign in the last few months.

Don't know who he is?  Here is his biography.

George Soros paid $650K to influence bishops during Pope’s US visit

August 23, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – Leaked emails through WikiLeaks reveal that billionaire globalist George Soros - one of Hilary Clinton's top donors - paid $650,000 to influence Pope Francis’ September 2015 visit to the USA with a view to "shift[ing] national paradigms and priorities in the run-up to the 2016 presidential campaign." The funds were allocated in April 2015 and the report on their effectiveness suggests that successful achievements included, “Buy-in of individual bishops to more publicly voice support of economic and racial justice messages in order to begin to create a critical mass of bishops who are aligned with the Pope.”
The monies were granted to two US entities that have been engaged in a long-term project, according to the report, of shifting “the priorities of the US Catholic church.” Grantees were PICO, a faith-based community organizing group, and Faith in Public Life (FPL), a progressive group working in media to promote left-leaning ‘social justice’ causes. Soros has funded left-wing causes the world over and was just foundto have been funding an effort to eliminate pro-life laws around the globe.
Note:  I have written about PICO and Faith in Public Life before, and it was about their left wing policies and how the church was supporting them via CCHD.

Stupid Biden Quotes

It has been a long time since I posted one of these, but they have kept the crazy Catholyc under wraps.

Biden said Trump cannot be trusted with the nation's nuclear codes. Then Biden told the crowd that he's got those codes right at his fingertips:
"There's a guy that follows me right back here, has the nuclear codes. So God forbid anything happened, the president and I had to make a decision -- the codes are with me all -- he (Trump) is not qualified to know the codes. He can't be trusted."

Pro-Life: An Awakening Conference (September 24,2016)

This was forwarded to me a short time ago.  I thought that I would share.

A little background on how we got here - last year, I read a book entitled Persuasive Pro-Life: How to Talk About Our Culture's Toughest Issues by Trent Horn (Catholic Answers,  It changed my life.  After completing the book, I knew it was the resource that needed to be in the hands of every pro-lifer.  The book is a synthesis of all the very best pro-life defenses for pro-choice arguments by Mr. Horn who has a decade of experience defending life where it matters most - person-to-person.  I thought, "What if every pro-life person utilized Trent's gracious and persuasive approach and just changed the mind of one other person?"  What if?  Could we change the county?  The state?  The country?  So, with my husband, Seth, my partner in crime Kitty LaHood Adams, and Charles County Right to Life president, Sid Marcus, we began a book study of Persuasive Pro-Life this past January.

What began as a book study has blossomed into a fledgling grassroots movement.  Here's where our pro-life conference, Pro-Life: An Awakening comes in.  We've asked Trent Horn, the author, to come and speak to as many pro-lifers as we can pack into the St. Joseph's Parish Center, in a seminar-style speaking engagement.  We're pairing Trent Horn's powerful keynote address with an afternoon session on using your power as a Maryland constituent and voter and an impact session designed to send everyone in attendance out like Christ sent His disciples to change the world!  We know with enough support and attendees, we can do something about the culture of death in this country by first changing our community into a culture of life.

The conference website, which is the best way to find out more and to keep abreast of updates, is  Right now, the Trent Horn Keynote, lunch, a pro-life networking fair, and both afternoon workshops is just $10 at the Early Bird Registration rate!  We've purposely kept registration low and sought outside sponsorship so that this event is truly open and accessible to everyone.  The pertinent information is as follows:

When: Saturday, September 24, 2016
Where: St. Joseph Catholic Church, 4590 St. Joseph's Way, Pomfret, MD 20675

Where are all the Chavez and Maduro Catholycs Today?

As you know, I try not to comment on topics that do not affect the Archdiocese of Washington DC.  However, there had been dead silence from the liberal Catholycs regarding the situation in Venezuela.

When Chavez took control of Venezuela, liberal Catholycs, similar to the boys and girls over at the National Catholic Reporter, were jumping all over themselves about how great things.  They kept telling us how wonderful things were, how terrible we in the US were, etc.  When I would tell them that it will come crashing down, I was told that I had no idea of what I was talking about.

However, over the last year or so, there has been SILENCE about their support for the socialist government of Maduro.  Could it be because the country no longer had medical supplies, limited food, etc.?  Years of mismanagement, and a drop in the price of oil has turned Venezuela into a third world country.

Maybe those liberal Catholycs should start sending their cash to the poor in Venezuela, and deprive themselves of a couple of meals.

I doubt it, because they are all talk.

Carhart Abortuary Caught Operating Without A Lab Permit

Our colleague over at Restore DC Catholicism has reported, via Operation Rescue, that:

Germantown Reproductive Health Services was caught on September 25, 2015 operating without a valid medical laboratory permit.  This was revealed during an inspection of the abortuary.  The permit they displayed expired in August 2013; at the time of the inspection the permit was already two years obsolete.  GRHS was also cited for failing to ensure that its employees were proficient in testing women for the Rh blood factor.

For those catholycs who think that abortion should be safe and legal, then you should be outraged that Carhart has been doing such things.  But probably are not.

Still No Announcement About Mt. Calvary School Closing

Three editions of the Catholic Standard have come out since the closing was announced, and not one word about it.   I guess they are waiting until all of the school focused editions are over before announcing it.

We advertise on WMAL about Catholic Cemeteries, but not one word about Catholic elementary and high schools.

Very Sad!

Cardinal Wuerl at Notre Dame. What will he do?

Cardinal Wuerl is scheduled to celebrate Mass at Notre Dame and receive an honorary degree.  This at the same time as VP Joe Biden, the highest ranking elected Catholyc, will receive an honorary degree.

Cardinal Wuerl made an issue of Georgetown University and PP.  Will he do something to show that ND is wrong with honoring pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage Biden?

Probably not.

Mt. Calvary Catholic Elementary School (Forestville, MD) to Close

I have been meaning to post this since Sunday, but have not had the chance.

On April 18th the Archdiocese announced to the parents and and students, that after 67 years, the school will close.   All Catholic school officials and pastors, in the Archdiocese, were notified of this the next day.

At this time, there seems to have been very little communicated about this by the Archdiocese.   There is no reference to it on the school or parish website.

I suspect that the announcement was made at this time, so as not to give parents a chance to save the school from closing, and the Archdiocese a public relations headache.

I feel quite sad and sorry for those in the parish, the Bishop McNamara High School community, and esp. for those children who are currently enrolled.  I feel sad for the state of Catholic education in this Archdiocese.

For those who are interested, here is a great post about the history and memories of the school

(Note:  I do have documents to prove this and will post it if necessary, for those who might not believe.)

Breaking: Head of Catholic News Service Resigns!

Time for FIRE the Director and Editor over at CNS

Why should anyone listen to us, when our own employees are against us!

The Director and Editor in Chief of the Catholic News Service, which is the official news and information service of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, has issued public statements decrying proposed legislation in several states that would protect religious freedom and deny men pretending to be women the “right” to enter women’s bathrooms.

Tony Spence been the head of the Catholic News Service since 2004.  Over the last few weeks, Spence has been publishing statements on his own twitter feed, identifying him as the head of CNS, speaking out against legislative efforts to protect the religious freedoms of individuals, businesses and churches.

Amoris laetitia -- A Powerful Response!

Amoris Laetitia (“The Joy of Love”) - Sowing Confusion Rather than Full Clarity

In some areas, it is strong and clear.  In others, it is clouded, will cause confusion and allow, in many instances, the right of one's conscience over the teachings of the Church.

Amoris Laetitia hopes to resolve the situations of many in the modern world, but is far more likely only to add further fuel to the holocaust. It doesn’t take a crystal ball to predict that once Communion can be taken by the divorced/remarried in some circumstances, it will soon be assumed licit by all. And – why not? – by people in gay relationships, who probably have an equally good claim to mitigating circumstances.

Rest in Peace Mother Angelica!

The Catholic Church in the United States has lost the Poor Clare nun who changed the face of Catholicism in the United States and around the world. Mother Mary Angelica of the Annunciation, foundress of the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN), passed away on March 27 after a lengthy struggle with the aftereffects of a stroke. She was 92 years old.

“Mother has always and will always personify EWTN, the network that God asked her to found,” said EWTN Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael Warsaw. “Her accomplishments and legacies in evangelization throughout the world are nothing short of miraculous and can only be attributed to divine Providence and her unwavering faithfulness to Our Lord.”

Cardinal Wuerl Speaks on PP at Georgetown (And the Archdiocese issues a statement)

Well, I did not expect anything from the Cardinal.  But I WAS WRONG and I am happy to be wrong on this.

“In our present culture, we have seen an increase in antagonism against Catholic teaching and the Church itself,” Wuerl concluded.

“It is precisely in these times that the Catholic institution of higher learning is called to continual self-examination to ensure that it maintains and promotes an authentic Catholic identity, that it recognizes the importance of virtue, and that it attempts to be a beacon of Christ’s truth and love as manifested in and through the Church.”

For more, go to:

The Archdiocese of Washington has issued the following statement:

What we lament and find sadly lacking in this choice by the student group is any reflection of what should be an environment of morality, ethics and human decency that one expects on a campus that asserts its Jesuit and Catholic history and identity.

One would prefer to see some recognition by this student group of the lives and ministry, focus and values of people like Blessed ├ôscar Romero, Blessed Teresa of Calcutta and Pope Francis in place of that group’s seemingly constant preoccupation with sexual activity, contraception and abortion. The Archdiocese of Washington is always open and ready to dialogue with the students, faculty and administration of the University on issues of such significance.

The apparent unawareness of those pushing the violence of abortion and the denigration of human dignity that there are other human values and issues being challenged in the world lends credence to the perception of the “ivory tower” life of some on campus. This unfortunately does not speak well for the future. One would hope to see this generation of Georgetown graduates have a far less self-absorbed attitude when facing neighbors and those in need, especially the most vulnerable among us.

Pope Francis and the Falsehood of Contraception in Africa

Paolo VI – il grande! – in una situazione difficile, in Africa, ha permesso alle suore di usare gli anticoncezionali per i casi di violenza. … Paul VI – the great one! – in a difficult situation in Africa, permitted sisters to use contraceptives for cases of violenze.

Fr. Z's blog has debunked this as a falsehood.  Doe this mean that the Pope knowingly lied about this?  No, probably not.  He heard the story, accepted it as truth, and then continued to spread it.

It seems that the Little Sister's of the Poor are getting tired of the Obama Administration disinformation campaign and are looking to set the record straight.

They have a new website and a great comic strip which lays out the issue in a very simple manner, even for the Obama Pajama Boy and VP Biden to understand.
