The Archdiocese of Washington (HOORAY!) is suing the US Government on the basis that the: Obama administration is engaged in a “conscious political strategy to marginalize and delegitimize” Catholic “religious views on contraception by holding them up for ridicule on the national stage.”
According to the lawsuit:
The record, moreover, establishes that the mandate was part of a conscious political strategy to marginalize and delegitimize plaintiffs’ religious views on contraception by holding them up for ridicule on the national stage,” says the archdiocese’s memorandum.
“Likewise,” the memorandum continues, “the original definition of ‘preventive service’ was promulgated by an Institute of Medicine Committee that was stacked with individuals who, like Defendant Sebelius, strongly disagreed with many Catholic teachings, causing the committee’s lone dissenter to lament that the committee’s recommendation reflected the other members’ ‘subjective determinations filtered through a lens of advocacy.’”
“This anti-religious bias,” says the memorandum, “is further confirmed by the fact that it was directly modeled on a California statute, see 77 Fed. Reg. at 8726 (explaining that the federal Mandate was modeled on state law); … whose chief legislative sponsor made clear that its purpose was to strike a blow against Catholic religious authorities: ‘59 percent of all Catholic women of childbearing age practice contraception.’ ‘[88] percent of Catholics believe . . . that someone who practices artificial birth control can still be a good Catholic. I agree with that. I think it’s time to do the right thing.’” -

With the HHS mandate, I have been thinking a great deal that if Obama is not thrown out of office, and there is no change in this draconian law, we may be forced to come to this. If it comes to this, it may be bigger than the Civil Rights effort of the 1960s.
What do you think?
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) vowed today that she will join with the Obama administration in standing up against the Catholic Church in defending a new regulation that will require Catholic individuals to buy, and Catholic institutions to provide, health insurance plans that cover sterilizations and artificial contraceptives, including those that induce abortions. For more, go to CNS.
By now, most of us know about Obama's draconian measure regarding birth control, etc. in regards to medical plans.I predict the following, if Obama wins the election and court cases go against the Catholic Church and others:1. Our Catholic hospitals will give up their Catholic identity to stay open. I don't see a Holy Cross Hospital closing down. 2. Most of our Catholic Schools and other organizations will not close but will ether (1) drop medical coverage and offer a cash payment to staff or (2) sell the school or organization to another company and get out of the business.3. The Catholic Church will take a beating each time a hospital or school closes. They will be portrayed as mean spirited and not caring for the sick, elderly and children.4. Oh, and your taxes will go up considerably, because you will not have the Catholic Church subsidizing hospitals anymore. I wonder if all of those priests and nuns (and Catholycs) who voted for Obama are happy now? You can't say we did not warn you.
In a surprise move, the nation's health secretary stopped the Plan B morning-after pill from moving onto drugstore shelves next to the condoms, deciding Wednesday that young girls shouldn't be able to buy it on their own. Was it done because they were worried about the health of women and minors? Nope. Abortion trumps all else for the Most High, Lord High Barack Obama. This was done simply for political reasons, as we are moving into an election year. All the Most High, Lord Barack Obama and his minions need, is one or two minors dying from this. Many will turn against him. All the Most High, Lord Barack Obama needs is for one or two news story to come out that a minor who was raped by her father or uncle, was forced to use the product before the election. Also, this would help to consolidate faithful Muslims, Christians and Orthodox Jews against the Most High, Lord Barack Obama.
According to the Wed., March 25th on-line edition of the Washington Times:Archbishop Naumann, meanwhile, has been in contact with Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl of the Washington Diocese to inform him of the Kansas City prelate's discussions with Mrs. Sebelius. A spokesman for Archbishop Wuerl said church officials in Washington would act in accordance with the admonition from Kansas City. A church official in Washington said the admonition does not prohibit priests from serving Mrs. Sebelius if she does present herself, but declined to speculate on what would happen in that event. So which is it? Are we leaving this up to the individual priest? Please don't put the regular parish priest in that situation. Give him some guidance. Either he can or cannot. The article further states:The Rev. Lawrence DiNardo, who served as Archbishop Wuerl's chief canon attorney during the archbishop's 18-year tenure in Pittsburgh before being transferred to Washington in 2006, said he expects his former boss to wait until Mrs. Sebelius is confirmed as HHS secretary before doing anything. "I am sure this crossed his mind, but the issue has not yet arisen, so anything said is speculative," he said. Archbishop Wuerl "is a very loyal person to the church, very thoughtful, very pastoral," he added. "He'll take all different issues into consideration as he makes a judgment. He always tries to make everything a teachable moment." Hopefully, we will have one voice speak, speak clearly and and soon.
The Archbishop of Kansas City has publicly asked former KS Gov. Sebelius not to receive communion. This will present a bit of a bind for Archbishop Wuerl of Washington DC.
Since Sebelius will probably reside in DC or Maryland (there is the possibility she may live in VA), will Archbishop Wuerl also ask HHS Secretary Sebelius not to receive Holy Communion, and join in support of Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann?
Personally, I do not believe that Archbishop Wuerl will do anything. But what do you think? Take the poll on the right.
