Boycott Girl Scout Cookies!

Now, I love Girl Scout cookies -- Thin Mints and Trefoils are my favorites.   A couple of frozen Thin Mints for dessert are almost a slice of heaven. Trefoils with coffee during the mid-afternoon is almost a slice of heaven too.

However, this year, I will not buy any.

Why?

GSA has decided to honor pro-abortion, pro-obamacare women.

A few weeks ago, the Girl Scouts designated Wendy Davis as an “incredible woman” who deserved to be on the list of 2013 “Women of the Year.” Only a month earlier, the organization promoted Kathleen Sebelius as a woman of “courage” on its Facebook page.

With most of the money going to GSA and not the local troop -- a troop gets to keep $.60 or 15%  -- I have decided this year not to support them.

Now, many of us have Girl Scout troops in our parishes.  In fact, some of you may even have your daughters, grand daughters or nieces in a GSA troop.

Heck, many of you may have been a Daisy, Brownie or a Cadet.

Double heck, you probably know someone who is a leader.

Triple heck, you may be a leader yourself.

So, what do you do?  Well, I will tell you what I am going to do...

1.  Do not buy cookies.  My scale will thank me.
2.  Make a cash donation to the parish troop selling cookies, because I will know the moms.  If you give them $2, you are basically equaling the profit of selling three boxes...and the money does not go to GSA, but with the local group.
3. Any non-parish troop which attempts to sell me cookies, such as at Giant or Safeway, will get a polite, "No Thank You."

Now, this is not the perfect solution but I think it is the start.

I think that the Office of Youth Ministry/CYO should really take a second look at having GSA as part of their youth ministry.  They probably should consider moving to American Heritage Girls.

Who is Bob McCarty, why should we be concerned and the connection with Washington?

There’s a guy you’ve never heard of who runs an organization you’ve never heard of but it is likely because of him that the Catholic Church has not taken a stand against the radicalization of the Girl Scouts and now the Boy Scouts.

Robert McCarty is the Executive Director of the National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministry. It should be understood that McCarty’s group is closely connected to, if not officially part of, the Catholic Church. It is an independent, non-profit corporation whose board of directors, nonetheless, is controlled by representatives from 16 diocese of the Catholic Church. It’s episcopal liaison is Bishop Martin Holley of the Archdiocese of Washington DC.

He says organizations that do not admit open and avowed homosexuals are in violation of the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Girl Scout Controversy Continues

My parish, like many others, sponsor a couple of different Girl Scout Troops, run by many of the moms in the parish.  A while back, I wrote about some issues with the Girl Scouts.

It seems that this is an issue which will not go away for them.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades of Fort Wayne-South Bend, chairman of the U.S. bishops’ Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth, said that the bishops are looking into concerns about the Girl Scouts organization.

In March, Bishop Rhoades penned a letter to his fellow bishops explaining that the committee recently met and discussed “a variety of the concerns” that have been voiced about Girl Scouts of the USA over several years, including “possible problematic relationships with other organizations” and “problematic programmatic materials and resources.”

Help save true marriage:

People are very passionate about this issue,” said Derek McCoy, executive director of the Maryland Marriage Alliance. “We are working hard to win this.”McCoy told CNA on April 3 that the alliance has worked “feverishly” over the past few weeks to develop petition drives and train people to run them.

The alliance is leading a referendum campaign, joining with the Maryland Catholic Conference, the Maryland Family Alliance and other national and local groups of different political and religious backgrounds to defend the dignity of marriage.

To Accepting???

For many years, my fundamentalist cousins have refused to buy Girl Scout cookies, because of their support of the pro-gay lifestyle. (Instead, they will make a donation to the GS Troop of the price of a box of cookies.) I too have heard of this and their relationship with Planned Parenthood and abortion.

An event took place in 2010 at the UN where there were many reports of pro-abortion, pro-homosexual materials were distributed.

It seems that the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM) did an investigation. Here is a copy of their report.

Based on my reading, their investigation accepted the explanation given by the Girl Scouts. In my opinion, MFCYM is either too accepting of the relationship between PP or willing to "wink and nod" at it. (That is my opinion and I am sticking to it.)

Considering that there are many Girl Scout Troops (Daisy, Brownie, GS, Seniors) sponsored by Catholic parishes in this archdiocese, I thought you might find this interesting.
