Child sex abuse lawsuit filed against Archdiocese

The Archdiocese of Washington is facing a class action lawsuit, now that a new Maryland law has eliminated statutes of limitations on civil claims.

By lifting the statute of limitation, sexual abuse victims can come forward years after an incident occurred. Three anonymous victims say they have suffered physical, emotional and financial harm as a result of child sexual abuse.

Attorney Jonathan Schochor is representing the three victims.

Maryland Supreme Court affirms Catholic groups don’t have to give benefits to homosexual partners

The Maryland Supreme Court ruled 4-3 on August 14 that Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is not required to extend marriage benefits to “married” homosexuals under state law.

As covered by LifeSiteNews and the Lepanto Institute in 2020, the suit highlighted multiple details casting doubt on CRS’s fidelity to Catholic principles, including having a senior executive vice president in a same-sex “marriage” and then-CEO Dr. Carolyn Woo claiming there was “not a clear path” as to whether Catholic organizations should or should not employ people in same-sex “marriages” for “non-ministerial” positions.

Maryland’s Democrat Attorney General Anthony Brown condemned the ruling and called on the state legislature to pass new legislation forcing religious employers to recognize homosexual unions.

Another Legal Attack on a Catholic Hospital

Although not in the Archdiocese of Washington, another Catholic hospital has been legally attacked for holding true to the faith.

A federal judge in Maryland ruled in favor of a gender-confused woman who sued a Catholic hospital for not removing her healthy uterus.

Judge Deborah Chasanow, a Bill Clinton appointee, ruled that “Jesse” Hammons could continue her lawsuit against University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center for denying her request for a hysterectomy in 2019. Hammons is “married” to Lura Groen, a pastor of the left-wing Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Maryland Democrats override governor’s veto, enact bill to let non-doctors perform abortions

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland (LifeSiteNews) – Maryland will now spend $3.5 million to train non-doctors to perform abortions, after the state legislature overrode the governor’s veto on a bill to expand abortion access.

Maryland House Bill 937 removes previous legal limitations that restricted the performing of an abortion to a licensed doctor. The bill provides millions of taxpayer dollars for the training of nurses, mid-wives, and physician assistants in abortion procedures, and requires most private health insurance companies to cover the cost of abortions by removing co-pays.

A New Catholic College in Maryland!

It looks like a new Catholic college is in the formation in Hagerstown, MD.  It is called the COLLEGIUM SANCTORUM ANGELORUM.

According to their website:

The Collegium is an independent institution of higher learning that pledges full fidelity to the unchanging Magisterium of the Catholic Church. Faculty and staff are practicing Catholics who are fully supportive of the Collegium’s mission and have signed the Oath Against Modernism.

The: "curriculum is foundational to our mission to impart the knowledge of God, that He might be loved and served in this world. We have a set, integrated curriculum of theology, philosophy, history, English, literature, logic, rhetoric, Latin, math, science, music and art."

It is scheduled to open in August 2021.  However, at this time it is not approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission but is hoping to have the accreditation process completed by the end of the calendar year.

O'Malley a Practicing Catholic?

On Tuesday, January 1, 2015  Mr. John Wagner of the Washington comPost, published an article on the commuting of Death Row cases.  He stated that:  "A practicing Catholic, O'Malley argued that executions are not cost effective, do not deter murders and are at odds with 'values as a people."

Really?

Let's see where to begin here...

  • Why does he throw this fact in?  Is is to help give O'Malley cover on the issue?  To give him the "in" with leftist Catholics?
  • O'Malley is not a practicing Catholic, as he is a supporter of abortion and homosexual marriage.
  • You can be a faithful Catholic and support the Death Penalty.  I do not trust our justice system, as I believe that eventually, those on Death Row will get out.

What a waste of newsprint.

75% of Marlyand Abortion Clinics Fail Inspections!

So much for safe...

++++

The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOH) announced on Friday that of 16 abortion clinics inspected in the state, 12 of them have failed to meet the state’s safety regulations. The state's new regulations for abortion facilities went into effect in July of last year.

In a letter dated May 24, Joshua Sharfstein, the secretary of the Maryland DOH, said that among the three most common violations discovered was the “failure to maintain a sanitary environment at all times and to consistently use chemical indicator strips in sterilized equipment packing."

Other common violations included the “failure to obtain information about the professional credentials of physicians on staff from the National Practitioner Data Bank,” and “failure to include a discharge diagnosis in the medical record."

Vote Against Maryland Question 6

Well it seems that Gallaudet University is either too ashamed of what they did, are proud of what they have done and want to keep it under wraps.

Don't believe those who say that if we allow homosexual marriage, your rights will be protected.  Look at what happened to the diversity officer at Gallaudet.  You rights of free speech will be denied.

This is happening in Canada and is starting to take place here.

KKTownsend - Our Values NOT

The gay marriage folks are really pulling out all the stops to force gay marriage onto the citizens of Maryland.  They are sending out emails highlighting different races/religions/vets/women, etc. in order to appeal every possible demographic.
In one email, they highlighted two churchgoers -- but they did not tell you that they were both former ministers in the Unitarian/Universal Church.  The is the same church in which most members do not affirm the divinity of Christ.  (Howard Dean was a member of this congregation.)
We also had some small time producer/actor, a veteran, and a host of others attempting to rally the troops.
Today, I received an email with Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, you know, a Catholyc.  She writes:
I hold my faith close to my heart and know that Catholics believe strongly that every member of our families and communities should enjoy the same opportunities, freedoms and fairness in their lives. We believe that the decision to marry and form a family is a lifetime promise to love and care for one another. And we believe that a good conscience is the highest moral authority.

As a Catholic, I believe the the Civil Marriage Protection Act honors these values, which is why I will proudly vote for it on November 6th.

Many Catholics have been discussing the issue of marriage equality for some time now - around the dinner table, in the community, and at church. They are quickly moving towards the basic fairness that is a cornerstone of our values. As a matter of fact, an ABC News and Wall St. Journal poll from this past March show that 59% of Catholic voters favor the dignity and fairness that marriage equality ensures.

Who is she kidding and who would believe her.  The last time I think we heard from her was the Stone Ridge gig she got, with a group of protesters.

Do me a favor Ms. Kennedy, please crawl back under the rock and stop peddling yourself as a Catholic.

The rock misses you.

The Kennedy name isn't as golden as it was 50 years ago. It was the Kennedy clan that brought about a schism in our church over abortion.  Many of will remember that fact and put it out there whenever we have the right opportunity.

PS: Maryland Catholic Conference, fighting this is what you should be focusing on and not the Nightmare Act.

Also, don't give to the CCHD campaign this weekend.  More money thrown down the drain.

True Marriage Opponents Running Scared?

It seems that the opponents (gay marriage supporters) of True Marriage seem to be running scared.  Those of us who support True Marriage, have submitted over 160,000 signatures...almost three times those required for a vote to be put on the ballot.

Over the last few days, I have noticed a flurry of emails from the supporters of gay marriage on this matter.

  • There is the sympathy one (Anna and I have a loving relationship and our children...).
  • There is the one which charges that the opponents of gay marriage are using racism.
  • There is the one from the LBGT Maryland Legislators.
  • There is the one about making phone calls from the SEIU HQ in Washington DC.
  • The Catholics for Equality no longer describe one of their members as a priest, who lives at Georgetown.

Let's make certain not only to GOTV (get out the vote) to repeal gay marriage in MD but to send a clear messge to those who support this lifestyle--it is unacceptable.

Maryland Abortion Clinics Now to Be Regulated

New regulations issued by the Department of Health and Mental Hygene (DHMH) announced that they will insitute regulations on abortion clinics.  Clinic inspections will take place (hopefully).

Abortion clinics will be given a 120-day grace period to apply for licenses under the new regulations, which officially go into effect July 23. The licenses cost $1,500 for three years.

The new regulations are modeled after those followed by outpatient surgical facilities and require abortion clinics to meet guidelines related to anesthesia, emergency services, lab work and other areas.

Of course, the Planned Parenthood/NARAL cabal fought it tooth and nail (cuts into those profits, you know) even though they were supposedly all for safe abortions.  (Remember the clinic in Elkton, MD?)

Although this may not reduce the number of abortions, it will ensure that murder clinics abortion clinics have to meet the same guidelines as other outpatient medical facilities.

Girl Scout Controversy Continues

My parish, like many others, sponsor a couple of different Girl Scout Troops, run by many of the moms in the parish.  A while back, I wrote about some issues with the Girl Scouts.

It seems that this is an issue which will not go away for them.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades of Fort Wayne-South Bend, chairman of the U.S. bishops’ Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth, said that the bishops are looking into concerns about the Girl Scouts organization.

In March, Bishop Rhoades penned a letter to his fellow bishops explaining that the committee recently met and discussed “a variety of the concerns” that have been voiced about Girl Scouts of the USA over several years, including “possible problematic relationships with other organizations” and “problematic programmatic materials and resources.”

Help save true marriage:

People are very passionate about this issue,” said Derek McCoy, executive director of the Maryland Marriage Alliance. “We are working hard to win this.”McCoy told CNA on April 3 that the alliance has worked “feverishly” over the past few weeks to develop petition drives and train people to run them.

The alliance is leading a referendum campaign, joining with the Maryland Catholic Conference, the Maryland Family Alliance and other national and local groups of different political and religious backgrounds to defend the dignity of marriage.

Today's Wash comPost - Two Unusual Catholics

Today's Washington comPost (by Michelle Boorstein) runs a story called: 2 unusual Catholics spark firestorm.

Now, you can read it as well as I can, but I want to point out a couple of things that struck me from the story:

1. "2 unusual Catholics" First, many of us, even though Canon Law may indicate she is legally a Catholic, do not consider Barbara Johnson "Catholic." There will be those of you who say that is not for you to determine. Okay, fine. But I am not living in an active lesbian relationship, according to Buddhist teachings. She has done this for a number of years. I think that this is persistent and really puts her outside of being a faithful Catholic.

2. Just because Barbara Johnson received Holy Communion once before in 2008, does not mean she she has the right to receive it again. That is not how it works Ms. Boorstein and Ms. Johnson.

3. Regarding the comment from Fr. Reese on Fr. Marcel. I think we should send Fr. Reese to Moscow and keep Fr. Marcel. (See the poll on the side.)

4. Finally, and I think that this is the most telling line in the story. Remember, Barbara Johnson's own words in her paper at Kutztown College (that she was a lesbian and Buddhist):

"Johnson had returned to her alma mater, Elizabeth Ann Seaton High School to teach art, a move she said was part of a process of coming back to Catholicism ON HER OWN TERMS." (my caps)

Notice here what we have:

A. That she is willing to lie about her life to make her the victim; and,

B. She wants to be a part of Catholicism on her own terms and not that of the Church. Sorry, Ms. Johnson, it does not work that way.

Here is the full article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/denying-communion-a-priest-and-a-lesbian-set-off-a-catholic-culture-clash/2012/03/15/gIQA9roNJS_story.html?hpid=z3

PS: Did you notice that Barbara Johnson sat right behind Gov. O'Malley (a Gonzaga HS graduate) promoting and celebrating same-sex marriage. What an insult to Catholicism it is by both of them.
