So much for Mayor Gray and his Catholic faith! Sell out!

I guess the Cardinal's opening prayer and photo op wasn't enough to change his pro-abortion, pro-homosexual positions.  Gray should be excommunicated!

From today's Washington comPost:

“Given my long standing strong support for LGBT rights and marriage equality, I would not support #hatechicken,” Gray wrote.

Earlier Friday, Gray declined to take a stand on the company, saying he needed more time to review its position on gay rights. But administration officials noted Gray has been a strong supporter of gay rights.

In 2010, when he was council chairman, Gray helped legalize same-sex marriage. Last month, as mayor, Gray signed into law what he called one of the nation’s toughest anti bullying laws.

When will Cardinal Wuerl have that chat with Mayor Gray

When Sargent Shriver passed away, the Funeral Mass was held in Our Lady of Mercy (aka "Our Lady of Gucci" by some of my friends) with Msgr. William English, as the pastor. I wonder how many pro-abortion politicians received Holy Communion on that day. You will notice that the Catholic Standard (yes, this is a while back) ran a couple of stories but made certain not to have any photos or mention of those who received Holy Communion.

Archbishop Chaput gave a talk at Notre Dame on Catholics in the political square, according to LifeSite News:

There is unity among the bishops about abortion always being wrong, and that you can’t be a Catholic and be in favor of abortion - the bishops all agree to that - but there’s just an inability among the bishops together to speak clearly on this matter and even to say that if you’re Catholic and you’re pro-choice, you can’t receive holy Communion,” Archbishop Chaput said.

Chaput acknowledged he is only in favor of refusing Communion provided private notice is given to the individual ahead of time.

But Catholics who support legal abortion, Chaput continued, must be told they cannot receive Communion and told they should never approach Holy Communion. Along with other bishops, Chaput said he has been attempting for some years to have the USCCB speak publicly on the matter.

Mayor Gray Arrested for Supporting Abortion Funding

Yesterday, Mayor Vincent Gray (Religion: Roman Catholic) was arrested as he protested against restrictions on abortion funding and reinstatement of school vouchers.

I wonder if the Cardinal now has second thoughts about giving the invocation for Mayor Gray, who is willing to get arrested over his pro-abortion beliefs and anti-school vouchers.

I guess this is one of those, "I told you so" moments.

Catholic Standard Update (Part 2)

This is the second post on the update for the January 13th edition.

Well, it is sad but true, there was no announcement of an error or omission regarding the article the previous week about Mayor Gray. Yep, there was no mention that they forgot to include his pro-same-sex marriage stance or his pro-abortion stance. Nope not one mention. Too bad they don't allow Letters to the Editor anymore, not they would have published a correction by me.

We also have no mention of Cardinal Wuerl on Fox TV. Of course, there is no correction given on the Cardinal's comments that the Church does not have a stance on gays in the military.

We also have an article about the Maryland Catholic Conference (MCC) and the next gathering of the MD General Assembly. You can lobby all you want, but we will not make a change until we get rid of the pro-abortion and pro-gay legislators. It is that simple.

We have an article about Fr. Harvey, the founder of Courage, an organization for celibate Catholic homosexuals.

And finally, the back page article was on the Catholic Business Network of Montgomery County with their annual fundraiser for Catholic Schools.

Mayor Gray, Planned Parenthood and The Pope

It seems that Mayor Gray had someone help him decorate his office.

That is okay, but when you put a Planned Parenthood award in front of two photos of Pope Benedict, I think that it vindicates all that I have been asking regarding the Cardinal's appearance at the Mayor's inauguration.

You can see the award in front of the photos of the Pope here.

There is only one thing that I can say at this time to His Eminence: "See, I told you so."

Thanks to Tom Peter's blog for sharing this.

The Catholic Standard..not the whole story

By now, some of you have picked up and read the official newspaper of the Archdiocese of Washington DC: The Catholic Standard. (Sometimes called My Catholic Standard.)

Page 3 has an article about the inauguration of Mayor Gray. It seems that the Archdiocese is attempting a bit of a "love fest" and "propaganda campaign" with Mayor Gray.

The Standard talks about his work with Covenant House, his attendance at Mass at St. Francis Xaviar in Southeast (his parish) and St. Mary, Mother of God (attends Mass). So, we see an attempt to show everyone his Catholic bonafides.

What they did not tell you was that he voted for Same-Sex Marriage in the District. Nor did they tell you that he supports abortion.

Amazing how they forgot these two pieces of information in the article.

I wonder if Mr. Zimmerman and Ms. Weaver (the author) will issue a correction in the next edition?

I doubt it.

+++++++

PS: We should be hearing shortly about the next round of school closings and mergers in the Catholic Standard.

Cardinal Wuerl's Invocation at DC Mayor Gray's Inauguration

You can read it here if you wish.

Again, I must ask why did Cardinal Wuerl do this?

Personally, I believe that this brings scandal upon the Catholic Church in this Archdiocese.

Do you have any thoughts as to why he did this? I have some but I would love to hear from you.

Scandal: Wuerl helps to honor pro-gay marriage Mayor

Well, it seems that Cardinal Wuerl will lead the invocation for the new Mayor of Washington DC at his inauguration on January 2, 2011.

Mayor Vincent Gray who is Catholic and says he attends Mass regularly (although we have not been able to determine the parish - although I know some of you out there know), supported same-sex marriages, as well as, other things which go against Church teaching.

For the Cardinal to attend and participate in this, brings scandal by helping to honor a pro-abortion/pro-gay marriage mayor.

However, you should not be shocked at this, as this is pretty typical for the Cardinal. You should recall his attendance at the SOAR Dinner honoring Cokie and Steve Roberts and his attendance at the John Sweeney farewell. Who knows what other events he has attended, since the Catholic Standard does not report on these sorts of events, nor does his PR person issue statements.

BTW, a request for a comment by Ms. Susan Gibbs, the spokesperson for the Archdiocese, was not returned.

You can read it here at the Washington comPost.

Cardinal-elect Wuerl and Mayor Gray

Yesterday, I sent the following note to Susan Gibbs, Director of Communications of the Archdiocese of Washington:

Recently, Mr. Vincent Gray was elected the Mayor of Washington DC.

Mayor-elect Gray has identified himself as a Catholic. Since Mr. Gray is a member of the Archdiocese of Washington will the Cardinal-elect be meeting with him to discuss his pro-abortion and pro-gay rights positions in light of Catholic teaching?

In addition, will the Cardinal-elect inform him that he should not receive Holy Communion because of his beliefs are in total opposition to the Church's teaching?

I look forward to hearing from you and will share your response with my readership.

Regards.

Her response:

I'm sorry, but we are unable to respond to anonymous questions. By the way, you misspelled the new mayor's name.

Thank you.

Susan Gibbs

Archdiocese of Washington

So folks, other than my misspelling of the name of the new mayor, I guess we have our answer. Maybe someone in my reading audience would like to send this note to Ms. Gibbs and see if they will get a different answer? You can write to her at: gibbss@adw.org
