Another Scandal: Biden Receives Communion at Red Mass

The Washington Post reported that the annual Red Mass took place on Sunday. This is a traditional Mass held before the Supreme Court goes into session and prays for all those sitting on the bench. This Mass actually takes place around the country and prays for lawmakers and those who serve on the courts locally. Not a bad thing. In fact, a good thing.

However, we seem to have a scandal.

It seems that Vice President Joe Biden, the highest ranking elected Catholyc in the nation, did receive Holy Communion. Altough the Washington Post does not mention it (and I doubt that the Catholic Standard will in this week's edition -- but let's wait and see), we have an eye witness account of the VP receiving Communion:

The actual service was incredibly special. It started off with a large procession of dozens of bishops and priests, accompanied by incense and the powerful organ and brilliant choir of St. Matthew’s Cathedral. Members of the Knights of Columbus proceeded to the front of the church with the American flag, and the choir led the national anthem. It was fascinating to see the flag raised in the very classical-styled Cathedral; it was an interesting moment of church meeting state. I also enjoyed seeing Vice President Biden and Chief Justice Roberts walk up at the same time to receive communion.

Unfortunately it would be a greater scandal had he been refused the Eucharist.

Biden has no concept of sin. Ergo it is on us to instruct our children.

Biden knows very well that he shouldn't receive Communion, but as long as the bishops do nothing about it,why should he stop?

Brantigny, I beg to differ. VP Biden committed a mortal sin of sacrilege in receiving Holy Communion as an unabashedly pro-abortion proponent. I don't know who offered him the Eucharist, but if he knew who Biden is, he may well be guilty as an accessory to the mortal sin.

It would have been so instructive if Biden had been refused Communion. It would have shown everyone - including Biden - that the Church places as its top priority the salvation of souls and the dignity of the Blessed Sacrament. And mass media reports and pundit opinion be damned. When our prelates start showing some real backbone and resolve, then we'll see greater progress in the institution of a Culture of Life.

Bravo Restore-DC-Catholicism! I could not have said it any better.

This makes me ill. But I am loving the use of the word Catholyc to describe these dissident politicians who play off their faith. I'm gonna use that! :)

According to Canon Law 1398, Biden is no longer a Catholic. 1398 provides that one who procures abortion is automatically excommunicated. By voting to support abortion for decades, he has procured thousands of abortions. Thus, serving Biden communion was a grave sin on the part of the priest serving and all the priests who did not stop it. The Church's refusal to stand behind its stand on abortion is outrageous.

Obama was elected by Catholics since the majority of Catholics voted for him. Their voting for him, the most pro abortion politician, is also a mortal sin according to the counsel of bishops. But the Church did not clearly and vocally tell us that.

By serving Biden and others and supporting Obama the Church is utterly dishonest and is driving good people away.
