The Deacon Project - Deacon Mark Asselin (Part Two)

As mentioned earlier, this post and the next few, will highlight the thoughts of Deacon Mark Asselin on TWITTER.  Of course, there will be many in Archdiocese of Washington who will love him for it.

Two things to note:

  • These tweets are not necessarily in date order.
  • If his tweet is unavailable, it is because he deleted it.

I find that permanent deacons are useless around the parish.

And we deacons find that most parishioners are useless as well. Instead of being so quick to criticize, why not offer the help you think is lacking?

Comment at January 29th:

Dear Deacon:

I personally do not believe that deacons are useless. However, as you well know, it is really up to the pastor to make the determination as to what role the Deacon plays in a parish.

In my parish, I do know the Deacon and his wife. Although we are not best buddies, I do think he is a good person and does whatever is asked of him by the pastor. To be honest, I have not heard any complaints against him, other than at times his homilies are a bit long. (Heck, if that is the only complaint, he is doing excellent.)

However, I do find your comment (is this you, Deacon Mark?) that most deacons find most parishioners useless, very disturbing. If you feel that way about most parishioners, I think it would be important to ask yourself: Why are you a deacon? In addition, maybe you should ask yourself: Is a parish assignment the right one for me and if not, can this be changed?

As of this writing, I have not said my Rosary today, so I will keep you as a special intention.
