Marian statue vandalized outside of the National Shrine

 From ABC 7 News:

A case of vandalism at D.C.'s most notable Catholic church has been turned over to police, just days before one of the major feast days for Catholics in the United States.

A statue of Our Lady of Fatima outside the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception was vandalized Sunday night, church staff told EWTN reporter Mark Irons.

A tweet from Irons stated someone had cut the nose and folded hands off the statue, and the cross on top of the statue's crown had also been removed.

Pro-Abortionist as President of Don Bosco Rey High School

Today, Nov. 29th, pro-abortionist Mark Shriver takes over as the President of Don Bosco Christo Rey High School in Takoma Park, MD.

Now, it isn't as though he is some unknown person, who happens to support abortion.  He is very well know.  He was a Maryland State Delegate from 1995 to 2003.  Ran against US Rep. Connie Morella of the 8th Congressional District.  (Think I got the district number correct.)

In 2011, I reported that he was in on the White Mass Honorary Committee.  If you don't know, the White Mass is held for those with disabilities.

Now, Don Bosco Christo Rey High School is under the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Washington.  In fact, the Catholic Standard regularly touts and promotes the school.

So the question is "Why?"  My guess is that in part, he has name recognition and would probably be able to generate big bucks for the school.

The story about him taking over as President of the school, was reported in the Bethesda Beat

CUA Celebrates Painting of George Floyd as Jesus Christ

Here is the story, reported by Mary Margaret Olohan

Paintings depicting George Floyd as Jesus Christ hang in both The Catholic University of America’s campus ministry office and its law school, The Daily Signal has learned.

Catholic University appeared to shrug off responsibility for the painting Monday, telling The Daily Signal that artist Kelly Latimore’s painting “Mama” depicts “the Virgin Mary supporting the body of the dead Christ”—although the artist has indicated repeatedly that his painting depicts both Floyd and Jesus.

“You can identify Jesus by the marks in the halo,” said Karna Lozoya, vice president for university communications. Lozoya would not further address the matter with The Daily Signal.

“The icon has no place at The Catholic University of America; it is blasphemous and an offense to the Catholic faith, but it is not surprising at all that it was put there,” a junior at Catholic University told The Daily Signal in an email. “It is just another symptom of the liberalization and secularization of our campus.”

“There are many students, faculty, and staff who are concerned about this, but there is nothing we can do,” added the student, who asked to remain anonymous out of fear of reprisal from the university administration. “And if we sound the alarm, we will be labeled racists.”

Annual Appeal 2021 Update

The financial goal for the 2021 Annual Appeal was $11.9 million.  The 2020 Annual Appeal brought in $10.4 million from over 33,000 donors.

As of this writing, the Appeal has received just over $9.84 million from just under 20,000 donors.

This means that not only has the Archdiocese not only fallen short by over $2 million but also there were over 33% fewer donors.

Vax Mandatory for Arch of Washington Employees?

The word that I have heard is that the Archdiocese of Washington is asking all employees to report their vax status.  This is in preparation for possible mandate by the Biden Administration.

At this time, I have not heard if they are pushing out those who refuse.

+Gregory, National Press Club and the McCarrick Situation

+Gregory spoke at the National Press Club yesterday (Sept. 8th) and to take questions.  And no, I did not submit any questions in advance.

Although there were a number of questions, there were the obvious ones regarding Mr. McCarrick and sexual abuse.

Here is The Pillar's take on this:

Clerical sexual abuse is “absolutely contrary to everything that I as a priest, my brother priests and bishops, should be pursuing, in terms of serving of our people,” Gregory said.

Perhaps surprisingly, the cardinal also talked about vicarious liability. He explained that bishops should not be held accountable for assigning abusive priests to ministry if they had no way of knowing about the acts of abuse or misconduct.

Gregory was direct on that issue: “I can only act on that which I know. And I do it clearly, honestly, straightforwardly, and I continue to do it.”

To read the rest of their "take" on this, and it is good and only a couple of minutes, please go to The Pillar

St. Mary's Restoration Overview

Here is an overview of what St. Mary Mother of God Church (downtown DC) has proposed to the Archdiocese of Washington.

Although I have not been there in over 20 years, hopefully the proposal will be approved.  I look forward to returning to it.

Deacon Mark Asselin (Another Update)

Well, I decided to spend a couple of minutes and take a look at his Twitter feed.

What I have noticed are two things:  (1) He retweets a great deal; and, (2) there is never any criticism of Joe Biden.

Not one drop of criticism, although he head plenty to say when Donald Trump was president. Search through his twitter feed and you can't find any.

Can we say "Democrat Party Owned Deacon?"

Now, I think that those who helped us in Afghanistan need out help.  However, I think that those Catholics who voted for Biden and caused this disaster, should host a family for a year or two.  What say you Deacon Mark?

This is the only tweet about the fall of Afghanistan.  Not a drop of criticism of Biden, although he was and is a strong supporter of Biden.  Guys like him are the cause of this, and own it.

So here we have him sticking up for +Cupich, when it was +Cupich who put this poor priest in the position.  And yes, you know what would have happened to the poor priest, who was told by +Cupich to fill in at the last minute, if he had denied Communion.  The worst part are the comments by supposed "Catholics."

Deacon Mark Asselin Update

It has been a while since I have done one of these, and I don't always have the time to look, but I will tell you, for a person who works full time and is a deacon, he certainly tweets a great deal.

I have really got to stay more on top of his antics.

Really, using Fr. Reese?

Attacking a prelate and those who wish to worship using the TLM.   Not very nice but that is par for the course with him.

Finding faith in the NYTimes.  Really?

Did not realize that he was so in tune with military promotions.

Mr. McCarrick to appear in Court

Former cardinal Theodore McCarrick was criminally charged in Massachusetts last month with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old during a 1974 wedding reception at Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts.

McCarrick was initially summoned to appear in court this week, on Thursday, August 26. But his first court date — called an arraignment — has been rescheduled to next week; the hearing will take place on Sept. 3.

Vice-Rector of North American College Returns to Arch. of Washington

ROME, Italy (LifeSiteNews) – The vice-rector of the North American College (NAC) in Rome is returning to the United States.

Father Adam Park has stepped down from the senior position at the elite seminary following allegations that he sexually harassed seminarians under his care.

Park’s home diocese is Washington, D.C., where he once served as the secretary to Cardinal Donald Wuerl. The archdiocese is currently under the leadership of LGBT-apologist Cardinal Wilton D. Gregory.

+Gregory Cancels Pontifical Mass at Shrine on Aug. 14th

From Rorate Caeli:

A pontifical high Mass had been planned for 14 August in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.

Following Pope Francis' motu proprio ...Cardinal Wilton Gregory, archbishop of Washington, demanded the celebrant of the planned 14 August Mass -- Archbishop Thomas Gullickson -- submit a formal request for permission.  Mind you, all permissions had already been attained prior to the motu proprio

Today, Archbishop Gullickson received a reply from Cardinal Gregory.  Permission:  denied.

Read the full story here at RORATE CAELI.

All I can say is you cannot trust +Gregory.

Msgr. Burrill assigned temporarily in Potomac, MD (UPDATE)

Update:  July 27, 2021   5pm

It seems that Msgr. Burrell will not be on the altar this weekend at Our Lady of Mercy.  The most recent bulletin does not have him on the schedule.  We will keep on eye on this.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

It seems that Msgr. Burrill, the former General Secretary to the USCCB, who resigned after the investigative report by The Pillar, is headed on Sundays to Our Lady of Mercy in Potomac, MD.

 Why did he resign?

It seems that he was a frequent user of GRINDR.  Don't know that that is?  It is a hook up app for homosexuals.

This image is taken from the Parish Bulletin dated July 25th:

Note that it is possible that this bulletin was produced/printed before the scandal hit on July 20th.  Possible he will not show.  Possible that he will.

If you are from Our Lady of Mercy, love to hear from you.

+Gregory and Traditionis Custodes

As you know, +Francis issued Traditionis Custodes earlier this months.  It gives bishops the right to restrict what is commonly known as The Latin Mass (TLM).

Here is what has been written in the Catholic Standard, as of July 26th:

Cardinal Wilton D. Gregory of Washington told priests of the archdiocese July 16: ”I will prayerfully reflect upon ‘Traditionis Custodes’ in the coming weeks to ensure we understand fully the Holy Father’s intentions and consider carefully how they are realized” in the archdiocese.

In the meantime, until there is “further guidance,” he said, he would allow “those who celebrate the Mass using the liturgical books issued before 1970 to continue to do so ... in the days to come.”

Fr. White & Bishop Knestout - Some Interesting Comments...

Although Fr. White and Bishop Knestout are no longer part of the Archdiocese of Washington and are now both part of the Diocese of Richmond, their story has roots here.

Fr. Z gives an update to the story on his blog, but what I find really interesting are the comments.

This leads me to my original premise that something happened between them.  Could it have been the sermon on Humanae Vitae?   Could Fr. White have been called to meet in Hyattsville over this with +Knestout?

As I have said, and others speculate, there is much more to what is going on in Richmond than meets the eye.  And the roots to the matter are here in this Archdiocese.

+++

On a separate note to the person who sends me the long, rambling comments.  Thank you for reading.  However, if you are interested in being published, please stay on the topic and not go off to all sorts of other stuff.  Thanks.

St. Jude Regional Catholic School and MoCo Council Member Will Jawando

A private school run by the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., in Rockville, Maryland, is facing scrutiny for policies in its student handbook banning braids, cornrows, twists or dreadlocks, rules which parents of Black children feel are discriminatory.

In a letter to St. Jude Regional Catholic School, Montgomery County Council member Will Jawando said a constituent preparing to send her child to the school had reached out to say she was “extremely distressed” about the school’s hairstyle policy.

You can read the entire story here.

My take:

1.  Seems Jawando put out a press briefing w/o talking with anyone at the Archdiocese or School about the matter.

2.  Will Jawando is one of the least effective MoCo Council Members.  If he wasn't screaming racism at every turn, know one would know of him.  He is a Race Pimp.

What has Fr. Daly been up to these days?

Some of you may remember Fr. Peter Daly, the former pastor over at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Prince Frederick, MD.

When we last saw him, he was on the Leadership Team of Association of US Catholic Priests (AUSCP) but is now on the Board of Directors of New Ways Ministry.

He was always on the leftist scale of priests in the Archdiocese of Washington, and I felt that he was assigned to St. John Vianney for many years, due to his radical nature.  I could be right, but I could also be wrong.

Well it seems that LifeSite News caught up with Fr. Daly.  Watch the video here.

Also, Church Militant reports on this and the various bishops, who support AUSCP and the promotion of same-sex marriage.

Holy Trinity, Biden and Holy Communion

Well is seems that the Parish Council over at Holy Trinity in Georgetown, known for being part of the liberal wing of the Church, has decided to publicly support Biden in receiving Holy Communion.

This is really just posing, as they really have no standing on the matter.

However, I know that Cardinal Gregory will be overjoyed to know of their support.

You can read it here:  Washington Examiner.

What has Deacon Mark Asselin been up to recently?

Greetings Everyone!

It has been a while since I posted, but sometimes work and life gets in the way of the important stuff.  However, you can always find me on twitter -- that time sink of an application.  Yes, I am addicted to it, but it is fun to periodically tweak a liberal nose or two.

As you may recall, one of the most prolific tweeter's in the Archdiocese of Washington is Deacon Mark Asselin.  Don't remember him, well he is the Deacon who supports Planned Parenthood.  Don't see it on his tweet feed, I have a photo of it in a previous post.

He use to post a lot about Asian-American hate attacks, but that was when the narrative was that they were perpetuate by whites.  When documentation started to show that it was mainly but not exclusively African-Americans doing the attacking, he suddenly became very quiet.

So, what is he up to these days.  Here are a sampling of his tweets:

Still portraying the WaPost as the gospel.

Hamas has used schools and other civilian buildings as cover for arms manufacturing and rocket launch pads.  After learning that the AP was in the same office building as Hamas, and knowing that they were there, he still blames Israel.

He seems to support Communion for pro-abortion/pro-homosexual marriage politicians who are obstinate and very public.

He wouldn't post this, unless he support the petition.

And yet, the most anti-Catholic Catholic president is not a scandal to him.  But at least Biden doesn't send out mean tweets.
